Sheraton Hotel on Canal St.

I have stayed here but give an edge to the Marriott across the street. With no mobility limitations, you can walk easily to the French Quarter. You can also get a day pass for the streetcars if needed. Plan your time wisely, 2 days isn't enough. :) Print out any useful Good Times Guide coupons before you go, also pick up various coupon books at the airport visitor center- main level- 1 up from baggage. With packing light and good rolling luggage you can get cheap transportation from the airport to downtown using the city bus. I use it all the time, but not for everyone- but $1.60pp each way sure beats $28++ fixed cab rate. :)

Budget Queen........can you tell me more about the public bus from the airport. I've been trying to figure it out using a map. We will be staying at the Hampton Inn and Suites, Convention Center. From what I can figure, the bus would let us off quite a distance from our hotel. Any tips to get there cheap? Thank you!

Ta just booked us a 2 night pre-cruise here. We are cruising on the Conquest on April 3. Has anyone stayed here and if so please pass along any details.

Thanks

We just got back from a cruise yesterday and we stayed one night at the Sheraton prior to the cruise... We loved it.. Very nice hotel.. Our room had a wonderful view of the city, which is beautiful at night. You are pretty much in walking distance to almost everything... Harrah's Casino, Aquarium of the Americas, Riverwalk etc...

Frankly I would never stay in the Convention Center location. Too far away from the FQ and all the activies there. Getting to that location via bus is complicated with at least 3 buses including the airport bus. Difficult if you don't know your way around. Far better is the Carondelet St location. Easy walk to everywhere including the Jefferson Bus on Elk.

The problem with NO is the two completely separate bus systems.

Thanks Buget Queen. We are staying at the Hampton Inn and Suites just for the night before our cruise.........although I do have a refundable booking, so our plans might change. Sounds like a taxi or shuttle would be the only practical way to get there. Post cruise, we're staying at Drury Inn and Suites........any comments? Sorry about being off topic!
