melissaff24 Posted March 21, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 21, 2008 What is everyone else doing? The Boatyard seems to be fun but also a possible tourist trap. My fiance and i would love to either sit on a beautiful beach and relax near a bar or take a personal tour/light excursion. Is the Boatyard really worth it? Never been. Would love to hear your suggestions?

taffNo1 Posted March 22, 2008 #3 Share Posted March 22, 2008 Hi APLMAC Is Carlisle Beach easy to get to from the cruise terminal, is is suitable for a couple of oldies who want a nice chair, umbrella, drink, snack and a wander along the beach. We are there on Sun 13 April.:D Thanks very much
GSDsky Posted March 23, 2008 #4 Share Posted March 23, 2008 For $15 you get a lounge, drink and a cab back to the ship. (which I needed)! Good value for view, music and people watching. Oldies" Almost 60 and I had a blast. You make what you want out of any situation. Sit back and enjoy. Lets put it this way most of the crew and casino staff attend the boatyeard... Great way to meet them at a different level.
Aplmac Posted March 23, 2008 #5 Share Posted March 23, 2008 Hi APLMACIs Carlisle Beach easy to get to from the cruise terminal, ===> Yes! is is suitable for a couple of oldies who want a nice chair, umbrella, drink, snack and a wander along the beach. ===> Possibly! We are there on Sun 13 April.:D It's a 20 min. walk(1.25miles?) -or a quick 5 min. $5-10 cab ride, specially on a quiet Sunday! Lobster Alive right next door is a bit quieter for "oldies" but even at Boatyard, you don't have to spend much time at all in the noisy clubhouse with music, etc. if you don't want to - it's much quieter out on the beach under your umbrella. :) There's 'only' 2 miles of Carlisle Bay beach to wander along,sorry.. and with Lobster Alive right next door, you might avoid Boatyard altogether and still do the same 2 mile beach. It's up to you. ________________________________ Did you see my pics at.. http://www.angelfire.com/wizard2/cncisland/bigships/scenes.html ? they should give you a feel for the area. . telli01 Posted March 24, 2008 #6 Share Posted March 24, 2008 We opted for Lobster Alive on our visit at the beginning of the month instead of the Boatyard. We LOVED it! There were no chairs at the Boatyard and Lobster Alive is literally 5 steps from the Boatyard. We paid $5 for a chair (which included a free drink coupon) and $5 for an umbrella. They had bathrooms there as well. The beach was wonderful! We could even hear the music from the Boatyard. We paid $4 per person for a cab ride back so it was a better deal for us! It's a cool place run by a cheerful Australian piano player...name's Arty. Have a look at the impromptu outdoor shower in the picture below! . It's a 20 min. walk(1.25miles?) -or a quick 5 min. $5-10 cab ride But it depends.....how old/young are you?? Do you like walking? Might be a good idea to walk there while the day is yet young, and cool and then taxi it back to the ship after the RumPunch and the heat have set in and you're checking your eyelids for cracks...:D
MEinNJ Posted August 25, 2008 #11 Share Posted August 25, 2008 We went to the BoatYard on 08.19.08. It is THE place for the BEST beach. The white superfine sand is beautiful, and the water, to me, the best in the Caribbean. Beautiful blue color, crystal clear, not too cool. We like action, not just laying around, and you get that here! You have the music playing at the bar, 2 trampolines in the ocean, and a rope swing. There is a volleyball court on the beach, and even a rinky basketball net next to the bar. While we were there, the had our teenagers, one at a time, tethered to a bungee-jump cord, trying to run and grab a bottle of beer. A bit later they had free shots of tequilla, then some contests, with the winner getting a $50 credit towards their bar/food bill. NICE! Shake your bootie, Beer guzzling & Brain freeze. Next up, more free shots. Yep, we all had a blast! There are people hawking goods and services, but they are nice about it. After asking prices, I told a jet ski vendor we would use him later in the day, but only if he did not ask us again. That worked, and likewise told others, we will come over later and look, but not if asked again. It was a great inexpensive day! We paid $4 pp for the cab, the driver was very forceful trying to get us to go to Monkey Beach. We finally said friends already left for The BoatYard, so please, just take us there, and he relented. Well worth the $15 admission, which as others said, included a chair, drink and ride back to the ship. $2 for each umbrella was very reasonable as well. GSDsky Posted August 26, 2008 #12 Share Posted August 26, 2008 What was stated is why 2 couples are going back in Jan. Great times for fun at the beach. Most of the officers and casino staff will also be there from the ship. What is even mor fun is watching everyone come back to the ship through terminal. I would think dining rooms may be empty that night!!!!!

From what I'm reading there seems to be too much of this coercion going on!

Great intro for teeangers on the drinking policy in Barbados   Nothing personal, we had a great time at the Boatyard....(Errrrrr, we think? lol) Its overkill to go with teens and think (as a parent that) you can veg out and relax b/c the bar tenders are serving your 15yo! Yes it was a fun time- but why am I looking for somewhere ELSE to land this coming December? I just dont want to end up there again, as I think there has to be prettier beaches on barbados without the typical tourist stuff. so, where can we go besides the Boatyard- where would the locals suggest? Cottager Posted December 3, 2008 #16 Share Posted December 3, 2008 Does anyone have a price on the drinks at the boatyard. For example, a beer, rum and coke, rye and ginger.

Sunniebgi Posted December 12, 2008 #20 Share Posted December 12, 2008 heading straight out of the main port entrance, you can walk on the right or left side of the main road. keep straight with the water on your right. Pelican Village will be on your left (lots of little shops) You will pass the Fisheries Complex on the right and then shops and a parking lot (all on the right side). keep going. following the side walk which curves to the right you will get to the new boardwalk along the carenage area. following this board walk to the first bridge and turn right. when you go over the bridge you will see Decosta Mannings store infront of you, keep going with this on your right side. walking along the sidewalk passed the Laurie Dash toy store. keep walking. Landmarks include the Honda Dealership on the right side (not large lot, just a store front basically), Furniture unlimited (I think that's the name) on your right. you will come to an intersection where the traffic is only coming to you from the left and they can only go left or right. You keep walking straight and you will shortly be at the BoatYard on your right. APLMAC Correct me if I'm wrong.. but that should be correct. and you can ask just about anyone on your walk, and they will point you in the right direction. I would say walking from the port is about a 20min - 30 min walk depending on how fast or slow you walk. enjoy.
