Traveler's Checks??

We will be visiting several Canadian ports on the Eurodam's NE/Canada inaugural sailing on 9/1/08 and am wondering if traveler's checks are acceptable to use in shops, restaurants, etc. Thanks for any feedback.

Traveller's Cheques should still be accepted in most places, although they are

becoming less common. Be prepared to show ID if asked. If using US dollar

cheques, change may be given in Canadian dollars.

Your bank card will work just fine up here and you will find lots of ATM machines....

Might sound old-fashioned, but we don't believe in paying $ to retrieve our $, so we don't do ATMs :D , but thanks for the suggestion.

Remember, that you'll end up doing the same thing as most merchants will not give you the full bank exchange rate on any US$ currency, including traveler's cheques (as US$ are technically not legal tender). Of course you can always get CAD$ cheques from any major bank.

I still bring travelers checks but I cash them on the ship. In port (especially in Canada) I use credit cards.
