I called SD yesterday to see if there was any chance of moving our 2 cabins and they said the ship was full except for 1 cabin on deck 4 so who knows maybe it has your name on it.

Back to snowy and cold Vermont after 4 days in the Outer Banks of NC. Cant wait for heat and humidity again!

DJ I will bring my ear plugs--good idea both for the seas and the snoring.

Maryella,

We've been on Deck 2 three of our four cruises -- 211 twice and 215 this last time. DJ is right -- the deck 2 cabins aren't really all that far forward. I think 218 backs up to crew quarters, but not sure. I think the laundry was back there as well, cuz I sure thought I heard a washing machine in our bathroom -- but we were on the other side of the ship than you.

Nor do I think you'll have much of an issue with ocean noise, unless the waters are a bit rough. SD travels so slowly that I doubt you'll hear much. I know I was glad to be on that deck during some of the rough weather we had -- others on higher decks said they definitely felt it!

The two portholes really are ok -- almost as much room as the picture window.

We'll look forward to reports from you and Cammiem!

Rumour has it that the ship is sold out on nearly every sailing these days. Nice position to be in during a "down economy".

It must be clear that SDYC is maintaining a standard that other cruise lines are not achieving on a regular basis.

Every cabin is desirable... and all guests are treated equally as important guests, no matter what stateroom they are assigned to - which is not the case on the other "luxury", or "upscale" cruise lines. Enjoy whatever cabin you get! Unless they grant me the privalege of enjoying the "owners suite", it is all the same to me.

Now the owners suite.....that is special.......

I agree 100 percent LBLB that every cabin is desirable. As I have said before, SD if the ONLY cruise line I would ever and have booked a GTY (guarantee) rate.

We haven't stayed in the owner's suite but have traveled with friends who were in it. It is lovely and special!

For us, we would rather booked two weeks in a regular cabin for the price of one week in the owner's suite.

So if every room is identical and there isnt much difference between the different decks on SD why is there such a difference in price between the different catagories of rooms? Between deck 2 & 3 it is approximateley $500.00pp and the same between 3 & 4. I have noticed some of the other luxury lines where the price point is much smaller between the catagories and you get a bigger cabin and a better position for the higher price.

We took a Danube River cruise 2 summers ago and on our ship there were also 3 decks. But the difference in price was only $150.00 pp between each of the different decks. Again the rooms were exactly the same with the same kind of windows but the difference being only which deck you were on.

Just curious!

Maryella:

I have wondered the same thing. I dont see the large increase in cost per deck actually gets you much. Each deck has plusses and minuses. Deck 2 is cheapest, has the best ride (IMO), is closest to the dining room, and you actually hear the sea. Deck 3 is most convenient for going out on deck for disembarking to the tenders, the pool, or the main lounge. Deck 4 is closer to the Topside Restaurant and TOY Bar. Also closer to the gym (no big deal there). We actually prefer Deck 2 as we consider we need the exercise walking up 3 or 4 flights to eat and drink. As said before, the ports as opposed to the windows is really not important. Like DJ said, unless you get the Owner's Suite, who cares? You are on holiday on one of the best ships on the planet.

Jim.

As a businesswoman I have also given this thought. Deck 2 sells out first I would suspect. The difference in pricing between decks is possibly a way to justify discounting the "early bookings", and as deck 2 sells out, the price goes up. SDYC costs more than a Danube River Cruise, so $150 upcharge is somewhat comparable to a $500 upcharge. And just because a lower price is advertised on Deck 2, as in any cruise line, it does not mean a stateroom is available on that deck anymore. So my opinion - it is all in the marketing. Book your desired cruises early. And there are those folks that do prefer to spend more money, so any smart business would find a way to create a distinction (the decks). And yes, you get a window instead of porthole on decks 3 and 4. .

I'm not sure why the price differential is structured the way it is ... other than the perception created that higher is better ... think penthouse in high rises, executive/concierge floors in hotels and suites on other ships.

If I had to take an educated guess I would say that marketing made the decision based on the idea that many first-timer SDers would opt to pay the difference because of that perception (higher is better and service is better). Those of us who have sailed SD before will tell you to a person that a cabin on Deck 2 is just as good as a cabin on Deck 3 which is just as good as a cabin on Deck 4.

DH and I agreed that we wouldn't pay the difference to be on Deck 4. It was nice to be near the spa and the Bali beds, Topside and TOY. Everything is so convenient on SD that you are close to something, as Jim points out, on every deck.

All of the cabins, save the owner's suite, are exactly the same... truly! Service is wonderful across the board.

We officially have our stateroom assignment: 321. I'm excited to try a new deck. We were on Deck 2 last fall.

Congrats! No engine room for you:p

We liked Deck 3 as it was in the middle ... one flight down to the Dining Room, one flight up to the Spa, Piano Bar and Casino ... and most importantly one deck closer than Deck 2 to the all important TOY Bar and Bali Beds:cool:

Are you finished packing yet?

I'm almost finished packing. Wardrobe is selected, just has to be put into the suitcase...which I'd better do tonight to get it off my bed & floor! :)

The week leading up to leaving is always busy, yet exciting. Wardrobe selection, manicure, pedicure, haircut. It's all good!

I bought a little tiara at Disney World last week to wear when we get home from our cruise to remind DH that I'm still a princess, whether or not I'm onboard SD! :D They (SD) make you feel like royalty!

Love the tiara idea!

I just made our reservations at Disney's BoardWalk Villas for Christmas week ... I was lobbying for the same week on SD but DH isn't ready to take DD (who will be 16) on SD yet ... and that we own Disney Vacation Club timeshare and Annual Passes makes it a no-brainer as far as he is concerned from a dollar and cents perspective.

Hey, a fellow DVCer! We own at BWV and OKW. Our next trip will be to BWV in October for the Food and Wine Festival.

Ooh, I love the Boardwalk. We stayed there in June '07 on the concierge level. It was much better than our stay last week at Swan. Won't do that again!

We do seem to have a lot in common. Pretty neat, huh?

Off for a pedicure & manicure. My "princess-ing" starts at 10am today and will continue onboard for 7 glorious days, then as long as my DH will allow post-disembarkation! :)

Don'tcha just love countdown clocks?

I have everything pulled & will load it into a suitcase tonight. DH waits 'til the last minute. I gave him your hat advice & he grabbed a nice one to pack.

I'm glad we are very busy the next couple of days so it will make the time go faster. :)

Sounds very familiar!

Don't forget to take some of your favorite music CDs to play in your stateroom as well as at the TOY Bar.
