deb5217 Posted May 1, 2008 #26 Share Posted May 1, 2008 We just returned from our first cruise and here is one suggestion and the reason. On the third day of our trip I accidently deleted 3 days of pictures from my digital camara! I would bring a portable photo storage device to download each days pictures. Thye can cost anywhere from 50-400 bucks so some are very affortable. Instead of buying one for this trip, I bought extra media cards. They didn't do me much good when I deleted the pictures!! One other sugggestion is bring broken in shoes... Don't save the new shoes for the trip. You have NO IDEA how much walking you will do...
pengu1n Posted May 2, 2008 #27 Share Posted May 2, 2008 Probably not needed if it's just the 2 of you, but we get self stick dry erase sheets and stick it to our door & the kids' door and velcro a dry erase pen to it. Great way to communicate between 2 rooms!:) Occasionally we've had a pen walk away and on our cruise out of NY the roaming teens left extremely rude messages, but usually we get a few smilies or flowers. They peel right off without getting the door sticky - it's like contact paper. You can get them at office supply places like Office Depot. I'll second the wrinkle release and clorox wipes or the clorox anywhere spray.
TOgirl47 Posted May 2, 2008 #28 Share Posted May 2, 2008 Must haves for me are: - Extra memory for camera (why delete the photos now? even if they're not great, they are still memories!!) - An extra battery, so that while you're out snapping away with one battery, the other one is recharging! - Alarm clock (we use our cell phones). We've been let down by the wake up call on more than one occasion :( - A light sweater that goes with everything and doesn't make you feel frumpy or dressed down - the ships get chilly at night and you don't want to have to pull your old Uni sweater over your dress on formal night!! - MOISTURIZER!!! Helps you feel less like a leathery monster after some sun :)
LDR Posted May 3, 2008 #29 Share Posted May 3, 2008 -Aloe Vera Gel-someone will get a sunburn! I mix it up with some Vaseline and it works wonders. -A night light is a must. -A power-strip. -Bandaids - A laundry bag-one of my great purchases. We just stuffed the bag full of dirty clothes in a duffle and packing up the last night took much less time. -Plenty of "feminine" supplies. They are expensive in every port and on the ship. -Extra contacts and solution. My DD ripped one half way through the last cruise.
Koshlong Posted May 3, 2008 #30 Share Posted May 3, 2008 We take some roll-up (no vacuum cleaner needed) compression bags and used them for laundry. When it was time to pack, we just rolled out the air and it took up very little space. Suitcases always seem smaller when it's time to repack. rhondab0511 Posted May 3, 2008 #31 Share Posted May 3, 2008 Boiler Cruiser, Thanks for such a great question! My son and I are going on our first cruise next month, and all these responses have been unbelievably helpful!!! It's funny how I have everything I'd ever need in my camping gear, but I never thought about dryer sheets for the cruise! It's true that the little things do make the big difference! I hope you have a wonderful time on your cruise! And thank you to all that have given the wonderful ideas!
