Giantfan13 Posted October 1, 2004 #1 Share Posted October 1, 2004 Something that might be useful to anyone flying out of Anchorage or anywhere else from alask. Do NOT pack any Ulu knives in your carry on luggage. It's just a simple thought, we wanted to keep most of our souveniers with us, and we carried several in our carry ons'. Well, to say that they set off every major alrm in the airport would be putting it mildly. It is a WEAPON, and you cannot take it on the plane IN YOUR CARRY ON bag. You CAN pack them with your luggage. The people at Frontier, in anchorage were very nice and they gave us a box and we packed them in the box and added them to our already checked luggage. Most people would make you just leave them there. We learned the hard way. Hope this makes some one else think a bit.
greatam Posted October 2, 2004 #2 Share Posted October 2, 2004 DUH!!! You didn't really try to take them on the plane, did you? Kind of like the crock pot thing, right. This could be a crazy thread. If you really did take them in your carryons, you are lucky you did not spend 3 hours with the FBI and Homeland Security guys and get put on the "no fly" list. garycarla Posted November 7, 2004 #3 Share Posted November 7, 2004 It is an easy mistake to make, since most of us do not have a criminal mind. If you stand around the checkpoints long, you will see tons (really) of items taken out of suitcases. And, lots of it is not caught during the normal inspection, but instead during the random EXTRA inspections. Don't be fooled into thinking this window dressing is making you any safer than pre 9.11. There are some changes that are helping, but the show fairy and wand and grope police are more of an annoyance.
