QM2 so many questions

We've just booked the QM2 for the Nov 29th sailing. I am totally unfamiliar with this line. We've booked a Q4 penthouse, cabin 10092.

What should we expect with this cabin?

what is included and not with this?

Tipping?

Casual dress during the day, are shorts ok?

No flaming, but what is the smoking policy, (the main reason we canceled our Celebrity cruise due to their new policy)

Lord, what else should I know?:)

We are not youngsters, but we're not retired either. I'm 48, hubby is 53. We're reasonably well off, and do have all our social graces down pat.:D Hubby even owns a couple of tuxes. We're well travelled and well read, and we love meeting people and love cruising. Please help me be informed about this wonderful ship!

Just came home, 4/6/08, from a wonderful QM2 13 day cruise. Smoking is still permitted in all staterooms and on one side of outdoor aft decks and some bars. We smoke and usually hung out in the Golden Lions Pub. We were on deck 10 inside cabin across from the suites. Nice floor. You will love this ship (once you get to know the layout)

What is the new Celebrity policy that made you cancel and go to QM2?

Thank You

Susie

No smoking in cabins OR balconies. Or in the casino except a small slot section. Only one bar, small section, port side is smoking.

but I really do want to know everything about this ship!

Are there really ballroom dancing lessons onboard? We've always wanted to learn!

What does the "complimentary bar set up" mean for this category of stateroom? When and how do we order that?

We do like dressing up, so the evening attire sounds lovely.

What is the casino like?

I'm sure I'll have more questions as we get closer!

The bar setup is one bottle each of your choice. If there is not a option in your pre package just talk to your butler and it will be delivered. Also bear and other drinks will be in the refrigerator and replaced as needed. Also for the bottles they wil be replaced.

You will have the services of a butler (shared). You can have the Queens Gril dinner served in your suite if wanted.

Have a good trip.

Hopefully Cunard will bring in a similar policy across the whole board, remember its not other passengers that suffer but the staff as well....

Thank you. There are more than enough smoking threads around here, that I'd really prefer this didn't turn into one as well. I simply asked after the policy. I'd also like to know about this ship in general.

thanks.

After making several posts with suggested reading, I will welcome you to the Cunard forum and congratulate you on booking the QM2.

I will try to answer a couple of your questions.

Since you are going on a Caribbean cruise from Fort Lauderdale, you will find the day time dress very similar to what you would find on other cruiselines. You list quite a few RCCL sailings in your signature. If any of them were to the Caribbean, this will be similar.

I have not been fortunate enough to sail in Queen's Grill, so you may want to search for some of the many posts on this board about Queen's Grill. You may find the dress a little less casual in the Queen's Grill dining room for breakfast and lunch. But as a whole around the ship, things will be casual during the day.

Yes, they do offer ballroom dance classes and they are usually excellent. The QM2 has one of the largest dance floors on any ship, and it is so much fun to spend the evening there. There is an orchestra playing wonderful music.

I posted some of my favorite reviews and threads for you. There are many more excellent reviews on this forum and also on the "Member Reviews" forum. Spend some time reading as much as you can and you will be well prepared to enjoy such an amazing ship.

After reading, if you have additional questions, please ask.

Have a wonderful cruise.

Beth

Our 10-day Caribbean cruise on the QM2 from New York in January was a different itinerary from your coming cruise from Fort Lauderdale, but perhaps some of the stuff I saved here will be of interest anyway. The only certainty is that you will love the QM2.

Bon Voyage.

Thank you again for the links, and for the welcome! Here is something I didn't see addressed in the reviews. My husband is a diver. Does anyone know if they offer dive excursions through the ship?

Smoking allowed in bars, in certain areas, pub not allowed during meal times, no smoking in any public areas incl restaurants, read a trip report on a Caribbean cruise in March (seems to have dissapeared) which stated no throwing cigg butts over the side, as its a fire risk...and how an American person disregarded this whilst in port, and was seen by the chief of security !

Thank you. I'm not American and I've never thrown a butt overboard in my life. I am a considerate smoker and I don't hang over my balcony railing while doing so. That's all I'm going to say on the subject. I have no desire to get into a smoking debate here.

Thank you to the others who provided some great info and reading for me. The more I read, the more delighted we are to be sailing this lovely lady.

Another question. I'm used to checking in online before our cruises, but I don't see that option available on the Cunard site. Is pre registration required/desired? If so, how does one go about it? Or booking spa appointment in advance?

Thanks!

Yes, you can check in online on the Cunard site. Just look for the box that has "Voyage Personalizer" (or something very similar). Right now, you cannot book spa appointments online. However, there is a phone number which you can use to book appointments before your cruise.

Once again, thank you so much for your helpful information! Even though we're experienced cruisers, it's like being a newbie all over again when you go to a new line! thanks again so much!

My TA gave me the Cunard brochure today along with the "Insider's Guide to QM2". I've been looking over the deck plans and she does seem like an interesting ship to get around on! Much fun exploring, I think. One thing I can't find is the Queen's grill sun deck. Where is it?

I think you will enjoy your trip. You are at the back of the ship but it shouldn't be any big deal. You are also actually close to the Queen's Grill lounge (down the elevator to 7 at the back) and the restaurant (much better then our last voyage when we were in 9001. I think that's why I didn't gain so much weight - LOL.

The QG Sun Deck is up on 11 or 12. If you go up to the back of 11, you'll see the signs for it.

You'll get nightly canapes that are quite seafood oriented. So if that's your cup of tea, great but if not, tell your butler no seafood and you'll get a custom made plate each night. I liked that a lot better. We also did a lot of entertaining in our stateroom and your butler will be able to set you up with everything you need - really nice to gather for drinks etc before dinner.

Tell you hubby to pack his tux and enjoy your nights together. As you will read, Cunard is not one of those change after dinner lines so it's nice to walk around the ship and see everyone all dressed up.

Hope you have a great trip!

Morrie
