esther e Posted April 11, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2008 ....what are we going to do about cell phones? Should there be a separate cell phone section? Should it be in the smoking or non-smoking section?;)
JCDeck Posted April 11, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 11, 2008 I haven't notice too many cell phones, can you use them at sea? I never tried. DH and I have tried "Walkie Talkies" to keep in touch but they seemed to be more trouble than they were worth and I alwasys got found (Caught ;) ) in the casino. Since the OP seems to have her sense of humor still intact, I would guess that she isn't one who has cancelled or is thinking about cancelling a perfectly good cruise. My sense of humor is a little out of joint.

micmacmissy Posted April 11, 2008 #5 Share Posted April 11, 2008 We lost cell reception (thankfully) a few hours after leaving Ft. Lauderdale. We did have cell reception in some of the ports, but only then for a few hours...and it wasn't a very good connection. Maybe they should limit cell phone use to the computer area??? (We also went newspaper and internet free for seven days....wahoo!)

63galaxie Posted April 11, 2008 #7 Share Posted April 11, 2008 We used our cell phone on the balcony as we sailed out of Fort Lauderdale and again when we got to San Juan. The reception (AT&T) was crystal clear. We didn't try using it anywhere else, but then again, noone asked! I think cell phone usage on a ship should be limited to balconies or on the upper decks only.
wolfganghowell Posted April 11, 2008 #8 Share Posted April 11, 2008 I think cell phone use should be banned in public areas. I work on a phone all day - the last thing I want to do is hear some jacka$$ yak to their Cousin Marge about what they had for dinner last night. I appreciate that people need to stay in touch with families or work - but do it in private. No one else cares about hearing your phone conversation. I can take this concept and RUN WITH IT!!!!! :D I have this attitude on land too. I don't want to hear you yakking on your phone in line at Starbucks or on the office elevator either. :D :D hey - how about a Speedo section? Speedos are allowed only on the Port side of the pool deck. :)

Spender Nui Posted April 12, 2008 #12 Share Posted April 12, 2008 Laugh if you will. On more than one occasion we've had adjacent balconies, whose occupants, with their loud and grating voices, used cell phones to call more people than I even know. It can be annoying. usha Posted April 12, 2008 #13 Share Posted April 12, 2008 Spender Nui, I agree with you wholeheartedly on that! :) I wish that cell phones & walkie-talkies were totally outlawed on cruise ships.
blong2200 Posted April 12, 2008 #14 Share Posted April 12, 2008 I vote for cell phone use in the smoking sections only........then the non smokers will have to come and 'visit' us to use their phone! That would be a hoot! I also think we should have a 'drinking' side and non drinking side of the ship, then I won't have to put up with obnixous drunks in the casino or the hallways or lounges! How 'bout it Celebrity.....let's be fair to all.

esther e Posted April 12, 2008 Author #16 Share Posted April 12, 2008 I also think there should be a special section for thongs and speedos, but on people over 67. Now, I am over 67 and if I were to wear a thong, several things would happen. 1) the ship would turn into a parking garage. 2) several thousand passengers would jump overboard. 3) I'd be put in the brig. 4) small children and everyone else would cry and scream. Me in a thong and my dear, sweet husband in a speedo is a sight that would scare Bin Laden out of his cave. Hmmmm...........
usha Posted April 12, 2008 #17 Share Posted April 12, 2008 esther e, I'm fully expecting George Dubya to call you & your hubby up to perform a special mission of scaring Bin Laden out of his cave... Are you up for it????;)

excitedofharpenden Posted April 12, 2008 #20 Share Posted April 12, 2008 Can that be the Thong section, too?:p I think you are being very prejudiced. Worn properly and with the right accessories they can look pretty smart:p (click on thumbnail for full effect) Phil

Worn properly and with the right accessories they can look pretty smart:p (click on thumbnail for full effect) Phil Sheesh, I asked you to keep that photo just to yourself!!!:D Seriously for a minute, we were on a Regent ship a couple of years ago and there was a table two away from us with 6 of the finest northeastern type people you could run into:eek: (and I can say that, coming from NYState). The "gentleman" used his cell phone and left his table as not to bother his group, and came right next to us and talked on his damn phone. Then I was a bit more courteous than I am now; I've gotten older and I earned the right to tell him to bug off if it happened now. So, yes, I think there should be a cell phone section -- preferably under the anchor.
TRadle Posted April 12, 2008 #22 Share Posted April 12, 2008 I was really surprised by the number of people using cell phones on the ship. One guy was working at the T-Pool. I felt sorry for him. I'd hate to see those phone bills with the roaming charges! However, cell phone use is only slightly more annoying than people having conversations near you...unless they are part of your party and are talking on the phone and not to you. claud925 Posted April 12, 2008 #23 Share Posted April 12, 2008 Goody - the next target group has been identified. That didn't take long. I might even be on the "right" side of this issue - I despise cell phones. Annoying and irritating, to be sure. And as technology continues to expand the availability and range of these devices, I say let's do something about it now, before it gets out of control. After all, anything is possible, right? From what I've been reading though, it seems the only people in the casinos and lounges are the smokers and after the new policy is in effect the casino is going to lose so much money that it's going to fold.....then they can use to space to put a self-serve laundry. I still haven't seen all these cell phones on a ship.
