juried Posted April 17, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 17, 2008 Hi, We have booked Entertainment Tours to bring us from Boston to the cruiseport in NYC. Has anyone ever used this service or company before? Thanks, Juried

juried Posted April 17, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted April 17, 2008 Cool, then at least I know we won't be alone on the bus! And chances are we will get there! Thanks, Juried
CruisinMaterial Posted April 17, 2008 #4 Share Posted April 17, 2008 This is news... I didn't know a separate bus company did a run from New England to the port!! I was wondering how to get to NYC to take a cruise out of NYC to the Caribbean. Could you send me info on this? Email: GrLRVs99@aol.com Thanks! Buford T Justiice Posted April 18, 2008 #5 Share Posted April 18, 2008 Entertainment tours sells transportation for most (NCL Carnival Celebrity HAL etc.) of the NYC cruise departures. Here is the website: http://www.enttours.com/trips.cfm?categoryid=2 Hope this doesn't get deleted. But if it does, just goggle entertainment tours. It's $85 roundtrip. We've used them twice: first time outstanding / second time so-so. We've driven since then. CC member Tigerlilycruiser12 has used them quite a bit

It looks like you guys love the Dawn as much as we do. This will be a much slower-paced cruise (even though the Sox are World Champs again :D ) It is just DH and I, both kids in college... which is a good thing, just very quiet. How did you like the Gem? Stay in touch. Terry Go Sox!

We just got back from our Gem cruise. Parking in NYC was $210 plus the gas and aggravation of driving into the city. Thanks for the info. I assume it is $85 per person? cello8619 Posted April 18, 2008 #9 Share Posted April 18, 2008 You might want to check out the FungWah Bus or the LuckyStar Bus, both have very regular schedules and are also really cheap its 15$ one way and 30 round trip from Boston to NYC, (sorry Providence there are no stops for you)

Fung Wah has such a bad reputation. I guess maybe they don't crash much as a total percentage of trips mad, but I wouldn't take them. I'm just curious to talk to someone who has used them. I TRULY believe that if someone uses them they are gambling on their safety and would love to hear the other side.

Well, I am from Western MA, and I go to school in Fairfield CT, so I see the Fung Wah and Lucky Star busses all the time on I95, and some of my friends use it all the time to get to NYC from Boston. I would feel comfortable using either company, just make sure to leave early enough in case there is traffic, (well there is kinda always traffic down here in Southern CT). Also, Cruizinwithkids, have a great time on the Dawn on the 27th with James. Now you will know two people on CC that work for NCL, I was just hired for NCL International as an Assistant Financial Accountant and I am awaiting my ship assignment, it would be great to get the Dawn Bermuda run so keep your fingers crossed!!! MediaSpecialist Posted April 18, 2008 #12 Share Posted April 18, 2008 There are five of us going on the June 15 sailing of the Dawn and are taking the Entertainment Tours bus to get to New York. The price when we paid a few weeks ago was $75, not $85, per person. We have taken a bus out of South Station in Boston to the NYC pier on three previous cruises...NCL, HAL, and Princess...and all were on Academy Bus which I think no longer operates the route. This will be our first ride on Entertainment Tours. After checking various other ways to get to the pier...train, plane, driving, and Greyhound, we decided that Entertainment is the least expensive and the most convenient as the bus unloads right at the pier...no need to take a cab from a train or other bus station. Poohb Posted April 18, 2008 #13 Share Posted April 18, 2008 We used Entertainment Tours last week. 4/5-4/12. We were not happy. Lucky for us we were picked up in New Haven 10:30 ish and only spent ~1 1/2 hours on a very warm & stuffy bus. Some ppl apparently were on it at 7am. The driver apparently did not speak or understand English. The driver never asked our names or checked a list to make sure we were paid passengers. He also searched for 2 ppl that never materialized so we're not sure if there actually was another couple. He was asked many times by many ppl on the bus to turn off the heat. His response was basically...'it is as low as it will go'. At this point maybe he should have turned it 'off'. Part way through this journey we had warm air blowing up from below and suddenly some cooler, but still warm air blowing from above. Up until that point the upper individual controls were not working at all. When we got to the dock, we could not get off the bus. Apparently you have to wait for the NCL/porter speech as to where to go and don't forget to tip. Everyone wanted off the bus ASAP to get some fresh air. The driver did not communicate to anyone as to why we had to stay on the bus. A few actually ignored him and pretty much pushed their way off. Needless to say I don't think the bus driver rec'd any tips. The trip home was a little better. The same route was not taken and the bus was very empty due to others now taking a different bus. We were pointed to the wrong Entertainment Tour bus (2 were parked side by side) but luckily we double checked on its destination before having our luggage loaded. Again, no checks of names were done; only a head count. We have used RC buses out on New Haven before without incident. We have also taken buses from New Haven to the NY Port Authority and then taken a cab to the docks. It was much less expensive than NCL bus. The taxi 2 years ago with tip was $10 with all our luggage. I suppose the only downfall was schlepping our luggage from the PA to the cabs waiting outside &/or the 'worry' that we'd miss the boat because of traffic. We will NOT use Entertainment Tours again! Have a great cruise. Good luck with transport
Poohb Posted April 18, 2008 #14 Share Posted April 18, 2008 FYI We paid $150 for ETours. It's ~110 to Port Authority plus Taxi. Greyhound

This bus is packed with NCL Spirit cruisers. I do not see an empty seat. Unless someone gets off this bus in Prov...? hopefully Ent Tours knows this and has made alternative plans for you. But the driver never checked anyones email-ticket so who knows? Good luck.

It is not yet 1pm and we are dining at the Grand Pacific.Nice! Excellent news Juried! Enjoy the cruise. That's what happened (excellent / quick trip) to us the first time (1/2006). The second time (1/2007) the bus was 1.5 hrs late to Providence (on a Sunday morning), we stopped in New Haven for people, we stopped for a coffee break and finally arrived in NYC around 1:00 pm after the Lattitudes group was escorted on (back in the day when Latitudes members waited upstairs). We waited with the masses and didn't get on the ship until 2:30ish. Coming home we didn't leave until close to 2:00 and got back to Prov. after 5:00 and then had to drive home 40 miles, south on 95. It is not yet 1pm and we are dining at the Grand Pacific.Nice! Your bus returned to Providence with NO stops in Boston. We were stuck in NYC (were put on a diffent bus) waiting for delayed Spirit passengers. We didn't leave NYC until 2:30 then were stuck in traffic for God only knows how long. We didn't arrive in Boston until 7:30 pm:eek: This bus had a sewerage smell that was so bad it made you gag. If taken Entertainment Tours three times and this is the first time I've had any trouble. I think we'll be paying to park at the pier and I wouldn't recommend this bus.
Rare Smellytoes Posted April 20, 2008 #21 Share Posted April 20, 2008 One more thing, the bus driver refused to stop for anyone to use the bathroom. The toilet on the bus was unusable it smelled so bad. We were stuck on this bus from 11:30 am until 7:30 pm. The bus driver said we would stop but never did:mad:
