Rccl Cruiser looking to try Celebrity

Hi,

We have done RCCL several times, looking to try out their sister line, Celebrity because RCCL doesn't have any 10 day cruises just to the Caribbean without Panama. (Looking to do the 10 day Southern on the Constel.)

So My questions are

1 - How does the buffet compare

2) How does the entertainment compare? Comedians?

3) Any Late night entertainment?

4) Do they have gameshows? Love and Marrage Game?

Are the pools open 24hrs?

What do they have for late night snacks/food?

Thanks!

Scott

Scott, I have been on Celebrity about 14 cruises and the same for RCCL.

1. the buffet on Celebrity is set up different, not that many stations but it does have someone making pasta everyday which is very good, They make the sandwiches fresh with what you tell them to put on. For breakfast Celebrity has the best fresh waffles on the buffet. So I would put a slight edge to Celebrity

2.Entertainment is about the same. RCCL being the parent company they share entertainment

3.Late night entertainment goes to RCCL. Celebrity will have a few night time buffets on deck at 11 or so but no late night shows.

4.Game shows are about the same but no quest at night. They do have the love and marriage show though.

5.No the pool is definitly not open 24 hours. They do have trays of late night bites served to anyone in the areas of the bars and casino. They keep bringing out very tasty bites.

If you love to party then Celebrity is not the place for you but if you want good service, good food, and great entertainment you will have a great time. I enjoy both lines for what they are.

Of our many sailings, we have only been on Celebrity once--the Galaxy about 9 years ago. It was fine, the service was good, as was the food but of the two lines,we prefer RCCL. Atmosphere on RC seems a little friendlier, less formal, more mainstream. I'd go on Celebrity again but it wouldn't be my first choice.

There is a disco/bar on Constellation - "The Bar At The Edge of the Earth" (or something like that). It's open late. On Summit (Constellation's sister ship) there were activities in the bar most nights. We were up there frequently until late.

There is a thallosotherapy pool that is open til 11 at night. It's fabulous.

The buffet is different from RCCL, but the made to order sandwiches and salads are great. There is no full evening buffet, just a pasta, salad and pizza bar. These are all served til 11 pm. If you don't want to eat in the dining room there is "casual dining" in the buffet area. It's dinner served by waiters in training, and there are different choices than in the dining room.

I would definitely give the edge to Celebrity, especially for service.

We started out with RCCL. We tried X with friends who urged us to do an Alaskan cruise/tour with them on Summit in Aug. '03 and have now cruised both 4 times. We have two cruises booked with X for next year.

They are only lines we cruise.

We love both lines and haven't found a whole lot of difference. Overall, the food and service is a little better on X, but the best food we've had was on Jewel of the Seas in June '06. The entertainment, excursions and activities are very similar. I love trivia games and discovered them on Galaxy in '05. I've played them on the last 4 cruises. Lots of fun and contradict the assertion that X is more reserved, lol.

1/02 Explorer E. Carib. 1/03 Explorer W. Carib. 8/03 Summit Alaska c/t

2/04 Adventure S. Carib. 2/05 Galaxy Pan. Can. 6/06 Jewel Brit. Isles/Nor. Fj.

1/07 Mercury Mexican Riviera 1/08 Mercury Aust/NZ

1/09 Galaxy S. Carib. 6/09 Summit Classical Med.

The buffet is one long line and we had trouble slipping in and out without getting scowled at, if we only wanted one or two things. The food itself is very good in the buffet.

We think the entertainment is better on RCL. Comedians are about the same but the productions show quality is better on RCL, with more contemporary songs. The difference is not dramatic but it is noticeable.

Not a lot of late-night activity. On RCL, there is often a secondary activity (the Quest, Majority rules, etc) after the show but on Celebrity, it's mellower after the show. More about people sitting and chatting in the lounges or playing in the casino. I have yet to be on a sailing of any length that didn't have love and marriage.

The pools close down around supper time, in our experience.

They do a nice thing for late-night snacks, with waiters wandering around with canapes that are really tasty. There is not anactual food station open that you can visit, that I can recall, outside of room service, after the dinner hour.

We're not party animals but there are definitely things I like more on each line.

We just completed our first X cruise after 3 RCI cruises and agree with about everything you said.

We found the entertainmen to be geared to a much older crowd then RCI.

We lake the X cruise a lot but if I had a choice between RCI and X I would take RCI. A bit younger crowd and a bit more fun.

Plan to dress up a bit more on Celebrity compared to RCI due to their informal nights. My experience is that you have more opportunities to interact with the entertainers on Celebrity but the entertainment has been a bit more classical. Neither line is a standout on late night food options but you'll find something to eat, just more limited than you would find on some other lines.

I have found Celebrity to be a bit more laid back than Royal Caribbean. It could be a bit of an illusion because Celebrity does not have constant announcements. You need to read the Dailies (It is called the Compass on Royal) to know what is going on. This is something I really liked. On our FOS cruise there was a speaker on our balcony and it drove me nuts!

I also found the quality of the production shows to be better on Royal Caribbean. We've sailed on AOS twice and FOS once. It could be because the stages are larger than on the Century or M-Class ships.

A nod goes, for us, to Celebrity for all of the live music is different areas of the ship and the art work (not the art auction; and yes they have the same one) all around the ship.

The thing we missed the most while sailing on Celebrity was the day of the week in the elevators. Oh, and a big nod to Celebrity for those elevators....they work!:D
