Passenger ages ?

We have recently booked our first cruise with NCL, in the past we have cruised with Thomson and Island cruises both of which are UK based, and tied in with Uk "package holiday" companies.

The ships they have are fairly old and have been bought when the larger cruise companies have finished with them, for example Thomson Spirit was built around 1984, and has had several other names.

Having said all that we had a great time on these small ships, Island cruises we enjoyed as it is flexible dining, with these cruises we have usually flown to Palma in Majorca and cruised the Med.

This year my husband cannot fly so a cruise on the Jade from Southampton seemed perfect, I am now a little concerned that being in our early 70's we are going to be the oldest on board.

We by no means feel ancient and like a drink and to listen to music and watch entertainment, we like good food and nice service, and are always happy to praise when we get this. Also happy to pay the extra we know about.

We really hope we aren't going to be the only seniors on board, what have been previous cruisers experience of the age range on NCL ships?

Hope someone can put my mind at rest, as I say we are young at heart, but not really into disco's and partying until the small hours. Is NCL going to be ok for us?

I am sure you will not be the only couple in your 60's or 70's onboard!!!

In any case, they have lots of activities for everyone to enjoy, if you do not want to go to the disco, you can always go and listen to some piano music, take some shows, enjoy the casino, play a game of bingo, or just sit somewhere to enjoy the cruise.

Whatever you do, enjoy it and have lots of fun:)

Your age is no problem. NCL has passengers of all ages. All are welcome. Nancy

Thanks for that, it's not that I think our age would be a problem, I was more wondering about other peoples experiences of what ages may be on the ship.

Is NCL more designed for younger cruisers?

As others have already noted, NCL is for all ages. On our Baltic cruise we were among the youngest passengers on the ship (we were in our early 50s). On the Sun the average age was much younger--spring break time. I suspect on a European cruise the average age will skew older. There will be plenty of "youngsters" your age on board. My parents are in their mid-80s (but nobody's told them) and they're cruising maniacs.

NCL probably has the biggest age cross section of any major cruise line. You will find families, some your 20 and 30ish cruisers (not too many) lots of couples in their mid years and certainly plenty of seniors.

I would agree that on the particular cruise you are going on, there will most likely be more people your age then the younger set.

As far as entertainment, as others have said, there is a wide range of music available.

On our recent NCL Sun cruise, they had "big band dancing under the stars", piano bars, etc. along with the disco music locations.

You will have a wonderful time with many your age!

You are as young as you feel. We are on the same cruise and my mother will be there and celebrates her 85th birthday. All the cruise lines you sailed, we have and some more ,age is not a problem. . Have a good cruise, make new friends, enjoy and you never know we could meet up. Peter

is how you seem to me from your posts, and I would agree with your grandkids who describe you as a clued up granny. You and your DH come across as the kind of people who have friends across many age groups.

Have a wonderful cruise!

Not to worry! Your going to have a good time! You do what you want to do and when you want to.

I wouldn't want to guess at the average age but there are very few young wild college types if that is one of your concern's.

I like NCL cruises, I find them quiet, relaxing and laid back.

I will also say that when we did Alaska in Sept. I was blown away by the amount of seniors that were in wheel chairs, scooters and saw quite a few dragging oxygen carts. I think it's great that in this day an age you don't have to be stuck at home because your not well.

When we were in Hawaii a couple of our NCL excursion buses had wheelchair lifts as well.

We have cruised several NCL cruises and have met all age groups on all cruises.

I would be honored to cruise with you and your husband.

We have met so many wonderful people and the couples older than us have provided so many interesting stories.

I know that you will have a wonderful cruise.

Relax and enjoy your cruise:)

This is so true. I haven't been a party person in several years. I'm 52 and don't care for disco, loud music, crowds. I love NCL because I can sit outside with a good book. I love the library, the game room, the "church". In short, I feel older than you feel...and always happy on NCL. Please go and have a good time. I'd love to meet you too!

We just returned from the Jade. There were passengers of all ages including some I would guess were in their 90's and a few handicapped people with electric wheel chairs. It can be a long way from your room to the restaurants and theaters, but the floors are level and there are elevators between the floors. The only caution I would offer is to be judicious in choosing shore excursions if you're mobility impaired.

one of the reasons my DH and i love NCL is the big mix of age groups on their ships. There is plenty to do for the young and old or not do. Certain cruise lines have a reputation that they are geared for a particular age group. Carnival has a reputation as the cruise for young partiers and Holland America has a reputation as a cruise for the old folks who go to bed at 7, i have heard that at 10pm the bars are empty ??

U will have a great cruise.

minimom:) :) :)

I tink NCL is no different than the one's you've been on. There will be a varied mix of ages as cruiselines want a mass appeal to their product. On the NCL's I've been on there have been more 60's and 70's than 20's and 30's. To be honest, I really don't pay attention to the others ages unless I happen to be on one of the more geriatric cruises.

I plan on having fun regardless of others ages - and yes, I'm closer to 70 than I am 20;)

I am still thinking about my original question here.

I have also been reading the roll call for our cruise and it does seem that on there it is mainly young families and young couples, but all very nice.

I am beginning to think that perhaps cruisers nearer our age don't come on the forums?

Will enjoy ourselves whatever, as long as we can find a quiet place when we need it, or spend time on our balcony.

Thanks again for the replies.

I am sure you are going to have a great time. For the most part NCL certainly is not a party ship.

You sure are welcome to cruise with us on the Pearl in October. I think you sound like fun. I am 44 and my DP is 36. As we say here in Texas.. you sound like good people to me. I think it would be a blast to cruise with you.

I have to agree with what everyone else has posted so far. I have found on NCL a wide mix of ages. Although I will say on our last cruise which was on the NCL Star to the Mexican Riviera, there were more people in your age group than I have ever seen on any cruise before. Which kind of broke my theory. I always thought it would be a younger crowd for the tropical locations and a more mature crowd for the northern and European locations. I was wrong.

I am guessing, and of course this can only be a guess that there may be a younger element of passengers from the US, because of long flight etc.

But the UK and European passengers may be more senior, especially as school summer holidays don't begin here until the end of July.

You perhaps could be right about not so many seniors posting on the forum, but I bet they are all reading a lot :)
