margord Posted May 12, 2008 #1 Share Posted May 12, 2008 Anyone have any suggestions for dinner (for one night) in Victoria. We will be staying at the Fairmont Empress and looking for a nice restaurant, not too pricy, but good food.
Putterdude Posted May 12, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2008 My favourite moderately priced restaurant is Pagliaccis which is a short 4 block walk from the Empress, often have live music in the evenings and is just a fun place. http://www.emenus.ca/Pagliaccis/ The other is Milestones which is a chain operation. They have a location about 1 1/2 blocks from the Empress and is on the water. http://www.milestonesrestaurants.com/victoria.html

Rickey 88 Posted May 12, 2008 #4 Share Posted May 12, 2008 I looked at the menus and both sound wonderful. Thanks so much. You might also want to look at the Harbour House on Oswego street. We usually stay at the Hotel Grand Pacific and can easily walk over to the Harbour House. Have never been disappointed.... http://www.victoriaharbourhouse.com
scottbee Posted May 13, 2008 #5 Share Posted May 13, 2008 My favourite moderately priced restaurant is Pagliaccis which is a short 4 block walk from the Empress, often have live music in the evenings and is just a fun place. http://www.emenus.ca/Pagliaccis/ Lunch is the time to go to Pags. The bottomless bowl of soup is such a good deal, and always amazing home made soup. For dinner I find it rather crowded and rushed, but lunch it's perfect Milestones have a few that noone else can match in town. If you're looking for a little off the beaten path, try Zambri's , it's great Italian food.

We have toured Canada and visited many Milestones but Victoria has the best one so far. Excellent. Right in front of your Hotel. Lot's of things to see along the water front and an IMAX theater in the same area. Ed

Rare itsanita Posted May 15, 2008 #11 Share Posted May 15, 2008 We are staying at Laural Point, are we within walking distance of any of these places? Are there any good, moderately priced places near Laural Point?
Putterdude Posted May 15, 2008 #12 Share Posted May 15, 2008 You can walk to them, it is about a 15 min walk and it is level; a cab will be about $10. There is one I have eaten at that is along the way but the name has gone out of my head. Maybe someone like scottbee will have some names.

There's a couple of restaurants on the way, the Captains Palace jumps to mind, but you really are better off heading into downtown. It's a short walk or cab ride. You can also ride the harbour ferry from fisherman's wharf (not far from the Laurel Pt), and fisherman's wharf has a great fish and chip place called "Barb's"
insideedge Posted May 18, 2008 #14 Share Posted May 18, 2008 Laurel Point is a five minute walk to government street not fifteen. It is only three blocks. If you want good food at reasonable prices go to Milestones but if you want a really nice meal for a little bit more I would recommend the Blue Crab in the coast hotel. Great seafood chowder. It's a 1.1km walk (a little over a half mile) from the Laurel Pt to Milestones. 15 mins is a fair estimate for those not familiar with the area. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=5602556213605575524,48.421750,-123.376400%3B15330113694483287795,48.422824,-123.368659&saddr=680+montreal+st,+victoria+bc&daddr=812+Wharf+Street,+Victoria,+BC+V8W+1T3,+Canada+(Milestone's+Restaurant)&mra=mr&mrcr=0&sll=48.421855,-123.373125&sspn=0.003788,0.011759&ie=UTF8&ll=48.42097,-123.369985&spn=0.015152,0.047035&z=

Stop and start reading all of the plaques on the seawall then all bets are off.
Langley Cruisers Posted May 19, 2008 #18 Share Posted May 19, 2008 You might also want to look at the Harbour House on Oswego street. Hmm, well it's very nice, but the Harbour House is frightfully expensive, just a heads up. Milestones is OK; it's a chain restaurant, nothing spectacular IMO. If you are available to have lunch, I recommend Sam's Deli up the street from your hotel - biggest and best roast beef sandwich I have ever had in my life. Rare itsanita Posted May 19, 2008 #19 Share Posted May 19, 2008 You guys are great, thanks for all the suggestions and the maps@! We have a coupon for Blethering Place, so we thought we would go there for tea/lunch in the afternoon. What about breakfast? We are staying at Laural Point and will be driving out of Victoria on a Sunday morning. We need to head to Sidney, arriving by 10:30 am to take the ferry to Anacortes. Where could we stop for a "local" breakfast. Not real interested in eating at the hotel. Where do YOU go for breakfast? thanks again for all your suggestions. Putterdude Posted May 19, 2008 #21 Share Posted May 19, 2008 I have had good breakfasts at Brannigans which is on a pad at the Accent Inn on Blanchard Street as you leave Victoria for Sydney. But the very best of all, John's Place at 723 Pandora St. http://www.johnsplace.ca/

But the very best of all, John's Place at 723 Pandora St. http://www.johnsplace.ca/ The best place in Victoria for breakfast is the Blue Fox (919 Fort St), hands down. It's worth a visit, although the lineup being an hour is common. If you go during the week, lunches are great, and the carrot cake is out of this world. Putterdude Posted May 20, 2008 #23 Share Posted May 20, 2008 I agree the Blue Fox is great as well, I used eat there fairly often with the Colliers gang when they were on Fort St. but I sitll kind of lean towards John's Place...it is just a little different and their bacon is the best.
