Center Hump or Aft??

Which would you choose on Mariner of the Seas? Pretty much have my pick seeing as thou this cruise is not until January 2010.

Never had an aft cabin (or a hump for that matter). Just wondering if you get a 'dizzy' feeling 'travelling backwards' having to look out the back of the ship all the time. Would love the extra space to lay back on a lounger thou.

You aren't travelling backwards, at all!!! The ship (and you) are going forward all the time--you're just at the "end of the line" in an aft cabin!

Personally, I'd do a hump--it's so convenient, and unless you plan to host a party on your balcony, the space is ample for two!

Ask one question and get a thousand answers....

I am an aft girl myself....There is nothing better than chilling watching the wake.

I have been on the Mariner but not on the hump or in an aft so I cannot recommend a particular cabin.

When we get an aft I use it as therapy and part of my daily exercise routine too.

Have a wonderful cruise and happy planning

Haven't been on the Marnier but have been in aft cabins on the Explorer, Navigator, Jewel, Brilliance and Legend --- loved them all.

Have already booked corner aft on the Liberty for January 2010.

I have never had a center hump, so I can't comment on that. I booked my July 09 Mariner trip a year ago just to get cabin 1688. (1388 is identical) It is so wonderful just to watch the wake. And the lounge chair is so nice during the summer when the kids are all by the pool on sea days. You will not get dizzy back there. Only drawback is a bit of a walk to the elevators. Room service helps :)

if you can gt 1688 or 1388 thats the cabins that are the most highly sough after== with the bigger balcony/cabin compared to the rest for the same price.

although you might think you have the run of the ship coz it seems so far away--- it might not be the case. Grab one of the most sought after cabins and make a decision later

we booked the Crown for Feb 2009 when prices came out in July 2007. Both coveted aft cabins (c753 & C752) were both booked for a few weeks.

the mini suite #731 just came back online a few weeks ago..

When you say center hump, does that mean a particular room at the most outward part of the hump or any of them on it?

My question applies to Navigator (9324) specifically but assume the same would hold on Mariner being sisters.

Yes, Center Hump is referring to the two cabins that are actually in the center. The other 3 or 4 cabins will only allow you to see forward or aft but not both.

Now I'm wondering about those rooms (1688 or 1388) in the AFT that everyone keeps mentioning. Is it a covered balcony? I love the sun and my DH loves the shade.

I can't believe it....1688 and 1388 are already booked for the Jan 2010 cruise!! I thought I was the only early bird :(

Instead I have booked 1690 right beside it. Any comments on that room?

Thanks

nope== no early bird- people jump on those cabins as soon as pricing comes available--- but keep an eye on it all the time as it could come available at any time. People change their minds all the time. Dont count on an agent to watch for those cabins.

if I couldnt get one of those two-- the next best one would be on the corners of deck 7.

Please be aware that there is a steel structure out there and you cant look stright down into the waters-- as there is a crew deck on deck 6 (dont book deck 6 ever for that reason

  • 4 weeks later...

I just saw this post about Deck 6 on Navigator - and the "steel structure"

We have booked 6326 - how will our view be blocked?

Also - should we be concerned with it being noisy near the elevator & stairs?

We had center hump on the Explorer (Deck 7) this past April.. We've had JS 1100 on the Jewel of the Seas (aft/corner), and we try to book the aft/wrap cabins on Carnival ships.. 'Spirit' Class, they are a Cat. 11 Suite, but 'Conquest' Class, they are a 9A, quite a bit difference in price!:)

Except for the fact that the 'center hump' was extremely convenient to elevators and in the center of the ship, we definitely prefer the 'aft'. I currently have three pending cruises, and they are each corner/aft, similar to the two that Serene mentioned..:D

This cabin is in an awesome location! Although this is not clearly drawn on the deck plans, the elevator/stairs are in their own lobby, walled off from the passageway where your cabin is. Noise is not an issue.

Your view will not be blocked at all. There is a steel structure across the back (aft) of the Voyager and Freedom-class ships, and there is a "black area created by a "crew only" extention of the deck further back beyond the cabin balconies of deck 6.

As well, on the earlier Voyager-class ships (VOS, EOS, AOS), the opening of the balconies on deck 6 are all steel, so the opening isn't as wide as it is on the upper decks whose balconies are made of a lower steel wall topped with glass. Mariner and Navigator were built differently, and the balconies are all glass, deck 6 included (this would be your cabin).

I vote for the center hump cabins. I had the center and one next to it on 2 Mariner cruises once on deck 6 and the other was deck 8.

I liked deck 6 better.

on the voyager or explorer you wouldnt like deck 6 better. its steel instead of plexiglass.

But on the Mariner=why did you like deck 6 better

Liked deck 6 better because, I could go out my cabin door down the stairs and be at the promenade deck to grab a quick bite at the Cafe and handy for the Customer Relations desk and also our dining room was on deck 5 as well and on the promenade about middle ways are stairs to the Casino and then on to the Savoy Theater. That's a few things.

Our cabins were deck 6 #6320 & 6318 on our last cruise in June 08 on the Mariner and on deck 8 were 8318 & 8320 on the Mariner in 2005

We booked the hump cabin for our first B2B in January 2010. I am able to keep this cabin for the entire two weeks. My first hump cabin and my first B2B. Isn't life great!

If you had this cabin any comments will be welcome!

I'm normally a fan of the aft cabins (have had them on Vision and Radiance class ships), but on Mariner we had a hump JS 9324 (for the person who asked about Navigator, follow the link in my signature to see pictures) and really enjoyed it. I think I would prefer it to the aft cabins, although I haven't sailed in one of those.

We had great views aft, including some wake, and pretty decent views forward, even though we were on the aft side of the hump. We couldn't see the bridge, but that's ok with me. You couldn't beat the convenience - we were steps from our morning cappuccino in the Concierge Lounge and right by the elevators, too. I'd book that cabin again in a heartbeat.

How do you all get to pick your room? Are you calling RCCL directly to ask for these types of rooms? Or are you getting off the website? I cannot find them on the website, the 4 rooms they offer me are never aft ones even though I am selecting the right class of room.

I've never been aft, but the hump on Jewel is very convenient. I broke my foot after drinking too much on a snorkling excursion and needed a wheelchair most of the rest of the cruise. Being at the hump made elevator access very easy. We usually take the stairs for exercise since my wife and I like to keep moving, but once I became injuried, I enjoyed the glass elevators.

when looking for cabins you wont ever see everything that is available. Mostly those aft wont be seen either. You will have to call an agent to see if certain cabin #s are available.

We have cabin 7328 on the Mariner next Jan.'09 for a month - repositioning cruise from FLL to CAL around South America and the Cape.

As it is the last cabin at the back of the "hump" will our view be obstructed in anyway (I just read on a previous post that we would not

be able to see "forward") ?? Thanks

Hi,

I don't know if the Mariner and the Explorer are identical with their deck plans but we had 7328 on the Explorer in 2006 and this cabin was just aft of the hump and no we could not see forward only aft. But next summer we scored a center hump cabin 9320. So excited:D

Don't get me wrong it was a great room close to elevators and stairs and mid-ship.

Lucky you to be on a ship for a month:) Have a wonderful time

Liz
