Cruise Cards for those who are underage

I've heard that HAL puts a hole in the card of those who are underage (under 21). The problem with this for me is that I do look very young. :( When I 1st get on a ship, I normaly go straight to the Purser's Desk to get a hole punched in my card so I can put a lanyard through it and wear it around my neck so I don't lose it. :D If they mark the cards with a hole if you're underage, and I get one punched for a lanyard, I'm going to have a terrible time at the bars getting a drink as because I look so young (I'm 23 but look about 15) they're not going to believe me that the hole was not punched by the cruise line because I'm underage. :( Is there a certian place on the card that hey put the underage hole? I'll have to be sure to put my lanyard hole in a different place.

Not being young enough to worry about it :D I really don't know how they identify those under 21. But a solution would be to go to your local office supply store and purchase a pre-punched ID holder. They are less than $2 and should last for several cruises.

Cheers,

We just returned from cruise/tour of Alaska. My son is 18 and nothing was punched on his card. When he went in to the casino he was asked for proof that he was 18. I guess if he had gone to a bar they would have asked that he show ID to prove that he is 21.

When I was in my 20's, I looked very young, SInce I didn't drink a lot, I only had this problem the few times I did and was asked for proof of age. Now that I'm a senior, when I go to the movies, they don't even ask for proof of age. I wish they would! LOL :D

Be sure to get one that really holds the card securely. My DW's key-card blew out of one somewhere on Grand Turk. (She had no trouble getting back on board and going to the front desk for a new one. It might have been a little different if she did not 3 people to vouch for her, though!)

Can't speak for HAL as we cruise next month the first time, but on Celebrity our youngest son was 20 1/2 a few years back and he was allowed to drink beer and wine only after we signed an okay on a form and I do think he had a punched or different looking card. His older brothers who were of age were allowed to buy buckets of beers, but he was only allowed to buy one at a time. This probably doesn't help answer you but thought I'd chime in!! Sounds like HAL may be totally different.

Yes, I do remember that from Celebrity. We were on the Zenith in 2005 when I was under age (I think I was 20) and my Mom had to sign a form to say I could drink beer and wine (which was kinda strange for us since where we live, the drinking age is 19). Also, I had a blue cruise card and everyone else's was white.
