sing2sas Posted July 6, 2008 #26 Share Posted July 6, 2008 We are going to book the Sky the first of the week for a 4-day the end of August. Prices are excellent, with upgrades and OVC available. We've only been on one other NCL cruise, the Star, and had a great time. It's nice to have freestyle cruising, with no set dinner time and casual dress at night. It's just the ticket for a quick, casual get-away. It will be interesting to read the reviews from the first few cruises.

rolloman Posted July 8, 2008 #37 Share Posted July 8, 2008 Wow, the press release sounds exciting. After going on the Pearl which I consider one of the best ships afloat and then suddenly going on Majesty which I consider the worst cruise ship afloat, I am going to book Sky and hope my experience falls somewhere in the middle. NJBill Posted July 8, 2008 #38 Share Posted July 8, 2008 going on Majesty which I consider the worst cruise ship afloat Why is that?
rolloman Posted July 8, 2008 #39 Share Posted July 8, 2008 I am not in the mood to be attacked by the loyalist of that ship, but here is a few one word descriptions. Old, unkept, dirty and just plain embarrassing. It has the smallest buffet you will ever encounter with a small card table holding a couple deserts. It is a ferry boat and wisely soon to be gone from their fleet. I now have repeated my opinion, and I am sure everyone is tired of reading it, but lets not hijack this thread. I am excited about the Sky.

mafig Posted July 8, 2008 #41 Share Posted July 8, 2008 The press release sounds great and had me excited until I reached the last sentence: "Certain aspects of Freestyle 2.0 will be phased in during the first two months of sailing." Since we're on the first sailing (7/14), I wonder what we'll miss.

Since we're on the first sailing (7/14), I wonder what we'll miss. Ditto, I am sailing on the same day and I can't help but wonder, what will we miss??? I hope it is not the escort to your balcony stateroom on the day of sailing. I like to take my luggage onboard with me so I could use the help with my luggage. I really enjoyed the VIP treatment on the Sun! At the end of the day we will be sailing on a practically new ship so what else could we ask for right?

McDebbie Posted July 8, 2008 #46 Share Posted July 8, 2008 You'll be so excited you won't even notice what you missed! :) My question is this, if all the renovations have been done, what is Sky doing this week? Short shake down cruises for travel agents? I just can't understand why, if everything is done, they would wait a week to sail. That's a lot of revenue. Maybe we should start a list of everything we want the "first" cruisers to report on - I want to know about the buffet stations, where and what? I hate standing in line and finding out I didn't want anything there anyway. (which I have learned to do but DH has not) And are one of the dining rooms open for lunch the first day? Those that sign up for the players casino card, did you really get free drinks while playing? How was Lobster night?? :D
mbisson Posted July 8, 2008 #47 Share Posted July 8, 2008 I Certainly hope its not the lobster. Be sure and give us a nice review when you get back!! I hope you have a great time!! Actually, good point. Some other mainstream lines do not offer lobster on their 3&4 night cruises (at least in the main rooms), so it could be interesting to hear just what the menus will be on the Sky
jaguar9748 Posted July 9, 2008 #48 Share Posted July 9, 2008 I'll be there too! I'm sure we'll have plenty of food to eat and plenty to do on our 4-day hop to the Bahamas. Hey, I'll be on a ship with no work for 4 days. Doesn't get much better than that! Looking forward to my first NCL experience!
