Oasis question.

Recommended Posts

I just received my brochure from my TA for RC's Oasis. Wow, what a beauty! I will definatly sail on her.

My only disappointment is the itinerary. I have been on the eastern twice and the western twice. I want something different. Why not the Southern itinerary or SOMETHING else. I know the ship is huge and alot of ports cannot accommodate her, but there has to be somewhere else she can sail.

Anyone else agree?

This monster can only port where it can dock. Tendering isn't an option. Some ports have had to build special facilities for this ship alone..... I doubt if you'll see any new itineraries. In addition, this fuel eating dinosaur would require too much of it to go too far from homeport.

I'm sure the folks at RCCL hope that passengers will consider the ship to be the destination....and spend lots of money in their pay-as-you-go venues.

You are right, the ship would be my destination! I don't think I would want to get off her!:) I understand about the size of this ship, but there are more & more being built, so different & larger ports should be on the drawing board. Hopefully this gas mess will ease up someday.

My sister and I (plus the hubbys) are already dreaming about cruising on her!

That's what we were talking about the other day. We were thinking about taking the Eastern Route on her, and we would probably just get off in the first to ports, St. Thomas and St. Maarten, and then treat the Nassau day as a sea day, especially since it is the last day on the ship. As others said, we would treat the ship as a destination, and who knows, maybe we won't get off at all.

Would you please post the itinerary? I would appreciate it. Thank you!

Aside from a requirement that the ports of call be able to handle a ship the size of Oasis, the itinerary is of relatively little importance to RCI. They know that they will easily fill the ship with passengers who are interested only in the ship and not where it goes. I am certain that this is the reason that they are only going to three ports during a seven day cruise and I believe that they expect that some passengers will not even get off at those three ports in order to fully explore and experience all that Oasis and Allure have to offer. Those who question the itinerary ought to ask themselves, what benefit would the company gain by seeking out more distant or less ordinary ports of call? Perhaps in a few years, when the novelty of the features onboard the ship are less of a drawing card, they might explore a revision of their itineraries, but no matter what itinerary they choose there will be those who are less than satisfied with them. Just witness the thread started by a poster who wants the Voyager to copy Carnival's itinerary out of Galveston and the reaction of a majority of the posters to that suggestion. Right now, I suggest that they could fill the ship many times over, even if they were offering seven night cruises to nowhere.:)

And lets not forget that RCI always seems to send their newest ships to the same old easter/western itineraries. These are the most popular itineraries. Freedom did the same, and so did Liberty. Seems to always be the same for new ships. I think that we were just all hoping that with such an amazing new ship, the itinerary would be just as amazing. Never seems to be the case.

Within 2-3 years there will be numerous ports that can handle the Oasis, some that have never had many cruise ships before.

Many frequent cruisers love the Caribbean. I take at least one Caribbean cruise a year. That said, I agree with the other posters that I could go for a cruise to nowhere. I love my days at sea.

I too vote for a 7 day at sea cruise. They could just move to the other side if a hurricane threatens.

Eastern or Western 7 days at sea....how cool?

I wonder how it would sell.

The ports might riot..they would lose a lot of income.

Fuel would be more costly.

Actually my favorite would be 7 days...St Thomsas in the middle with an overnight.

They would never do that, do you know how much money the cruiselines make from shore excursions?

I don't think they would do it either, but I have a feeling that the money that they would make in the casino and the various bars and shops might go a long way towards offsetting any lost excursion revenue.;) Most first time cruisers look to visiting as many ports as possible in seven days, and even with Oasis being a destination on its own, RCI probably feels that it is essential to offer some ports of call. We did a seven night TA that visited no ports of call between the port of embarkation (Harwich, England) and the port of debarkation (Boston, MA) and it was heaven.:)

They open general bookings on 9/03 but will open up early for C&A members but those dates have not been announced thus far.

Thanks, hubby thinks those loft suites look pretty cool and wants to book one some time

Am cruious how much they will cost, they look great but will book for a normal balcony...:-) there is nothing going to be normal about this ship. I was telling a friend about Oasis yesterday and her jaw dropped.
