After we were out to sea, Mother Nature provided us an excellent view;

I had to try a panoramic shot of it all. At the far left was a rain storm;

This view had to be for the Canadians on board the ship. I hope some of them got to see it;

As the sun was setting behind the storm, we still had our aerial escorts that followed us from St Thomas;

After enjoying Mother Nature's display, we missed dinner so we opted to visit the buffet for another awesome display;

We also received our PG pins and invitations to the PG party along with our capers for San Juan;

After relaxing on deck for a while we visited the picture sales area then made a donation to the Black Jack tables. We went to bed around midnight and listened to the rain as we sailed toward San Juan. San Juan is very close to St Thomas so the storm clouds we watched the evening before obviously caught up with us. I was up on deck at 5:50 and snapped a few pics of the ship after a hard early morning rain shower;

I cannot get over how beautiful Trunk Bay was..... next time, we just may take the trip over to St. John! Have you been to Megan's Bay? How does that compare?

I second the other poster who made a comment about your boys. The words "Come on MOMMMMMMM!!" are usually coming out of my boys mouths with each snapshot. Not as attractive as Cheese!! I give your kids a lot of credit for posing for all those pics!!

Enjoying very much!

Rain or shine? It was still hard to tell;

As we docked in San Juan, the answer to 'rain or shine?' was humid;

We waited a while to get off the ship because the boys were tired from the day before and to wait and see what the weather was going to do. Once we finally got off, the Carnival photogs were already finished for the day. As we were about to enter the boarding area at the pier we stopped to pose for a self portait of us all and the result was a self reflection portrait instead;

Ohh, that's powerful! Can you see that look on her face after the rum sample was a bit strong?;

We noticed after we reboarded the ship that the Carnival Photogs had also used this area for pics;

Catrin,

We visited Megan's Bay this past April on Carnival Freedom. We had a great time and the beach / view there is beautiful.

Compared to Trunk Bay, Megan's Bay looses in every category other than beach chairs. We actually found a place to rent chairs as we were leaving Trunk Bay, but the chairs are the type you sit in and normally fold into a bag and take with you. They aren't beach lounge chairs.

At Trunk Bay the sand is much smoother and wipes off easily.

The water is calmer and more clear at Trunk Bay.

There are no sales folks peddling items walking up and down the beach at Trunk Bay. By the same token, you can't order drinks on the beach at Trunk Bay, but you can walk a short way to the gift shop or grill and buy drinks.

Megan's Bay is a taxi ride to and from whereas Trunk Bay requires two ferry rides and at least one taxi ride on St John. Taxi to and from the ferry port is optional at St Thomas because it is within easy walking distance (I would guess around twenty minutes to walk from or to the ship from the ferry port in Charlotte Amelie).

The locals we rode with in St John said that Megan's Bay is popular with cruise passengers because the taxi drivers get a good fare for transports there. They recommended several beaches on St Thomas as being much better than Megan's Bay.

After a couple pics near the ship, we headed up through Old San Juan and stopped by a few vendors along the way;

Karen bought some ear rings from this lady in April and had to buy some more on this trip too;

If anyone you know enjoys good cigars, I recommend visiting this booth before you leave San Juan;

As we walked through old San Juan, we were heading toward El Morro Fort;

The streets are very colorful and every turn offers another scenic view of the old San Juan;

Paul,

I have really enjoyed your review. If you would, please give lots of details about the half way point of your back to back. This will be our first B2B and I want to know as much as possible.

Thank you again

Thanks for the update Paul!

I have a question about going through customs/immigration at St. Thomas. We are supposed to meet Island Girl at 9am on the pier, do you think that will be a problem? Any recommendations for us? Should we just go down and wait in line as early as possible?

Thanks!!

Wonderful review! Your pics of trunk bay makes me want to go back. We weren't as lucky on our visit--the beach was half the size and the waves were huge :eek: a navy man doing the snorkling trail got caught between the waves and the little island out there and had to be rescued--he was cut and beat all to pieces from hitting up against the rocks--of course being a Navy man he was all macho and "oh I"m fine" but you could tell he was in a world of hurt. My son-in-law (also Navy) totally understood and said he'd have been the same way.

We had a wonderful day regardless and since I'm not a strong swimmer I just stuck with wading and lazying under the trees on the beach on one of those wonderful blue carnival towel lounge chairs:D

Loving your review and looking forward to the rest

Bobug,

Thank you. I had to take a break and go watch him catch lightning bugs in a jar. He does have his 'doll' moments.

Luanne,

I promise to include many details including details of what we should have done vs what we did.

TJ,

If you're on a deck they call early, you'll have no problem. If your deck isn't called first, I would recommend that you head down when they do call the first deck.

I don't recall whether they had a time recommendation for those with early prebooked excursions or not. I'm sure there was such an option for Carnival booked excursions, but I'm not sure about non Carnival excursions.

poptart,

Thanks for the heads up on Trunk Bay. I hope it's as calm on our next visit as it was on this one.

As we approached the fort via the grassy field, the sky was full of kites;

When we were here in April we didn't get to spend much time at this fort because it was closing shortly after we arrived. Today we had plenty of time to explore;

I had a hard time keeping the boys out of this particular cannon's display area.;

I agreed with them that it would be safe and fun to fire the cannon, but I'm sure the authorities would have disagreed;

Why do boys always have to walk on the edge?;

We also found a circular stair case later on;

I forgot to mention that Britt opted to stay on board the ship and attend Camp Carnival instead of visiting the fort with us. I don't recall exactly what CC activity it was that had him so enthralled, but he decided on Camp Carnival early that morning while we were still watching the weather to see what kind of day it was going to be.

While it's nice to explore, it's always a good feeling when home is in sight;

Thanks again, Paul! HMC looks beautiful, and I've always had a certain fascination with Puerto Rico, as I was 'made' there, my parents were stationed at the Naval Base in PR. Thanks for sharing those great pictures of El Morro!

Interesting that your son chose to stay on the ship! Nothing bad, just a great testament to the kids program! How cool!

Bryson enjoying his drink of the day;

For a day that began with torrential rain, it sure did turn out perfect and made for a beautiful sail away view from San Juan;

Later on that evening we attended the past guest party;

There were several amusing speakers and the stock video from Carnival execs, and the part that got the biggest laugh over all was the video with none other than John Heald, Carnival's Senior Cruise Director. Live or recorded, John is the man when it comes to entertainment;

John was the CD when we were first on Liberty a couple years ago and memories of him as CD still bring chuckles to this day. We can't wait to sail with him again.

After the party and dinner, we returned to our room and found another towel animal waiting to greet us;

Thanks for the great review!! Beautiful pics and a beautiful family!!

I have a question.....

How did you get the loungers on your balcony? When I had a wrap, I asked the steward if I could have a lounger and he said no :confused: .

Paul - your review is awesome! We leave in just 19 days!!! Regarding HMC -- are there hammocks for everyone or just with the cabanas? Is there food (snacks) available throughout the day for those passengers that do not have a cabana? I'm happy to hear you loved St. Johns (that's what we plan on doing). I look forward to reading the rest of your review!

The buffet set up on HMC is for ALL cruise passengers - for lunch - probably from around 11:30 - 2 pm....the extra snacks/drinks as mentioned are specifically for those who have rented the cabanas.
