What to do from LA to Hawaii

What do you do on a three day trip from LA to Hawaii. The Casino and bars are only good for so long then they get boring. I'm thinking about a Princess LA RT to Hawaii so there are six sea days.

Relax, Relax and Relax. I did this trip last year and the best part was the sea days. And I should add that I did not visit a bar and only lost $20 in casinio(and I did not win anything:mad: ). I read books, enjoyed the sea view and most of all just walked around the ship (when I was not eating:D ). Nights were the shows and such. and after 4 or 5 days in the ports the way back gets you back in that relaxed mood. It is a great trip. I look forword to doing it again.

I guess you're talking about the 14-day round trip from LA to Hawaii as you can't get from one to the other in three days. So there's five sea days going and five returning (which includes a day at Ensenada:rolleyes: ).

My family did this cruise in December 2005 (the holiday one) and it's spoiled us re: the shorter cruises. There's so much to do (or don't do): classes, trivia (my fave), reading a book on the deck by the pools (second fave), swimming, going to the casinos and similar activities. There's the standard art auction, movies playing in your cabin and often in one of the theatres, the nighttime entertainment.

I wouldn't recommend the cruise for anyone going on their first one (there were some on ours), anyone who can't control seasickness, even with all the remedies available (you'll probably get some rough seas the first couple of days after leaving LA), anyone who hates sea days (definitely not my family).

I can honestly say I didn't get bored once during the 15 days of our cruise (this year one day has been dropped:( ).

We did it over Christmas and New Years this year and the time passed pretty quickly. They have lots of activies, you get to do a lot of reading and afternoon naps become mandatory.;) But serioulsy I would be the first to admit that it is a long way to go and it is not for everyone. However it does give you a good flavour for each of the islands.

There is so much to do that I didn't have time to do everything I wanted! Do attend the lectures-not the port sales talks-the lectures about the history of the islands done by a guest speaker are great!

My DH and I LOVE sea days so this cruise is on our list of must do cruises. Did all of you posting here do Princess? If not what line did you do. We were interested in NCL just in Hawaii until they pulled their best ship out, now we will do the 15 day RT west coast. In looking at the different cruise lines that do this they seem to do different ports and different hours of stay in ports. Haven't picked one yet, so I was wondering on everyone experiences.

We did it in April 2007 on the Island Princess and it was wonderful!

Sounds like the standard fare of things to do. I guess it's OK if they don't make you row the boat. My thoughts are that it's a way to avoid jet lag for sure and a way to avoid sitting in a plane for 8 or so hours from Chicago. One might even get bored enough to get some exercise on the prominade deck.

Thanks y'all.

We have done this twice - once on Celebrity's Infinity and last year on Diamond Princess. Both were great. We like Princess's anytime dining. Princess though is dropping to a 14 day trip, dropping Kona which we love. Hoping they rethink this - otherwise we will look into another cruise line as this is our favorite itinerary.

We did this trip from San Diego to Hawaii in Oct-Nov in 2007. We had too many choices to make. We never were able to do 1/2 the things we planned. They had lie making classes, food classes, wine classes, so many lectures to choose from, we spent time at the pools & spending time together. Trust me you will NOT be bored. Hawaii was Great. Make sure you go to a luua & see Pearl Habor. You will love both. Have fun.:)

We were on Celebrity; Summit. The trip was for our 35th wedding anniversary. We left on Oct 26th. The cruise ended on Nov. 9th. I did check other cruise lines, but Celebrity was the most reasonable priced. We had taken 2 other cruises, this was the 1st time, we got a balcony. We loved that.:)

Ours was on the Island Princess, again in December 05 (thru Jan 06).

Pluses about Princess: some of the ships (such as the Island) have a pool under a retractable roof, which is nice if it's rainy, there's a self-service laundromats on several decks so you can take less luggage (yes, I know that Celebrity and RC, like Princess and other lines, have laundry services, but someone in my family is allergic to regular laundry detergent, so I rather do our laundry with allergen free detergent), itinerary-specific activities for both the kids and adults.

Hula lessons, lie making, cooking, wine tasting, martini tasting, book ready, swimming, steam room, hot tub, spa, Cabin crawl, casino ($limit for trip was $40.00 Won $50.00), art viewing (not auction), trivia, napping, mini gulf, eating, shopping, bar hopping, dancing, movies, ect.

I was so busy some days that I had to remind myself to relax some. This was on the Celebrity Summit. I am going on Radience of the Seas in Sept again.

... the weather? I recently read somewhere on CC that it was too cool to lay out on deck, at least until you reach Hawaiian waters. Are some months warmer than others? or is it just completely random, depending on winds/currents coming down from the North??

SIL & I are planning this cruise for next year, but don't know if it will be in April (on Carnival or HAL) or July (on NCL - if they still exist!) She won't know when she can take time off until the fall.

Hi, we did this trip last year in the fall/winter on Princess , we are now looking into doing it on HA in the spring. WE LOVED IT. There is always something to do, you can be a busy as you want or as lazy as you want. The sea days are the BEST. Activities are listed in your patter paper every morning and you can plan your day. Of coarse some days we just lazed around and read books and dozed on the deck chairs enjoying the sea view. We spent very little time in the casino, and very little time in the bars, and we still were busy.

Hope you enjoy your cruise.

Cori
