45 day letter - Carnival

For the Princess crowd that might be familar with Carnival's 45 day letter program...does Princess offer anything similar? We returned from AK off Star first week of June and wondering if there were any guidelines. We have already written a letter to guest relations, looking for any other input. Thanks.

Can't help you here, but could you briefly explain what a "45 day letter" is? I have never heard of it before? (which I am sure means this is something not done on Princess).

This really had me curious, so I googled it. My understanding is when you are dissatisfied with something or possibly just for filling out the comment card (the info I found wasn't too clear on this), they give you a gift if you return on another cruise, the gift must be requested 45 days prior to your cruise? Did I understand that correctly?

If so, no, Princess does not offer this on their ships.

Would the gift be a Passport to savings leftover from several Princess cruises?? ;)

Cute Colo! :) From what I read, they can ask for a bottle of wine, or drink coupons or things like that. Still not sure if it is for a complaint or for just filling out the comment card onboard though. Anyone have any ideas?

Didn't they used to have the cruise refund if you got off early? :)

yep, this is a general explanation. It's not necessarily a letter of complaint, could be letter of compliment as well. But you do have the general understanding. You normally rec letter from CCL just inside the 45 day marker. Gifts usually from Bon Voyage dept or sometimes a small OBC.

Anyway, just wanted to inquire, don't want to miss anything. I have still written and sent the letter, maybe it will brighten someone's day to read positives rather then negatives:)

I should mention, this is beyond or separate from the comment card.

Thanks for the input.

Well, it's nice to know you will make someones day with a letter of appreciation. But afraid a form letter thanking you for the kind words is probably about all you will get, if you even get that. Sorry!

....to my surprise. I did get somewhat of a form letter today. Not only did they 'thank me for sailing Princess, look forward to sailing us again', it awarded an OBC offer for future sailing. Valid as long as we book within 12 months. Guess you never know:D

Hi Cruisinlawn-

I had written a brief letter thanking the staff for the fantastic cruise we had in January aboard the Emerald.

I had not done this with the intention of receiving anything in return- my husband and I genuinely had the best vacation experience of our lives on that trip and I thought that we should advise Princess of those individuals who helped make it so great.

I was quite surprised to receive a letter of thanks from Princess guest relations about a month later that similar to your letter, offered us an OBC of $25 pp (for hubby and I) should we book a cruise within 12 months of the date on the letter.

And yes it did work Princess!! Although we had no intention whatsoever of cruising again for a number of years... (not through lack of desire however) we are booked to cruise the Golden in Alaska this coming September.

Timing, a trip to the west coast materializing and this OBC combined with our FCC and related OBC all conspired to force me to cruise twice in one year. Ah well, guess someone has to do it!

Hope you get the opportunity to use your OBC's as well!

Jill

oh, we'll definitely make use of it. You are going to love AK. We sailed the Star first week in June, fantastic vacation. The ship, the scenery, excursions, everything. Look forward to another visit in the future. We too were only sending a letter complimenting the staff and the sailing but to our surprise rec'd as noted.

Trying to squeeze in a quick fall sailing, have an early Summer lined up in May. Both on Carni. Guess we'll have to sneak in a late winter or early Spring to cash in credit with Princess. I knew we would find a reason:D

Enjoy and take care. Ken.

Failed to mention that you're going to love the Golden, nice ship. We sailed her in '05, S Carib.....nice.

Hi Ken.

Any recommendations on "must-dos" for our Inside Passage cruise on the Golden (I believe it's the same itinerary you would have done on the Star)?

And any tips on the Golden would be great too!

Many thanks in advance.

Jill

yep, same itinerary. Do you have excursions planned? Is this your first AK visit? Just take it all in, we slept very little so we could enjoy. Up at 5a for our glacier day (6a-10a). What activities did you have in mind or interest you?

As for the ship, we actually experienced very little of Star while in AK. Only went to couple of shows, minimal visits to casino. We basically ate and slept:D . We chose to take in AK as we were sailing with parents, likely a once in lifetime trip for them so we didn't want to miss anything, though Im' sure we did. They sail Caribbean frequently but may never have the opportunity for AK again.

For us...Ketchikan...went to Lumberjack show, kinda cheesy but entertaining for a one time, then four of us went to the zip line. Fantastic but of course we enjoy them where ever we are. Parents did the Misty Fjords Wilderness cruise and thoroughly enjoyed it. They did get some awesome photos. Still had time to tour the town own your own.

Juneau...whale watch with Harv and Marv. Fantastic, prolly everyone in our groups favorite. We had an excellent day, sat on top of one whale for almost an hour while he/she entertained us. Thrilling. Made a quick stop by Mendenhall, very nice, interesting. This was set up by Harv/Marv. Still had time for quick shopping and the Mt Roberts Tram. Tram was okay but would be better if not $25pp. Gives you a great view and would say go at least once, kinda like the lumberjack show in Ketchikan.

Skagway...we did the White Pass R/R with Chilkoot, 7hr trip. Wow, never knew there was such scenery. Of course we are in Georgia with our foothills, which are very nice but nothing compared to the Yukon. Got confused on our return to ship time so we did some very fast shopping in town. Would have liked to see more of the town but didn't want to get left behind:eek: . As you sail out of Skagway, do not, DO NOT miss the scenery as you sailaway. We stayed on our balconies/deck for over 2 hours while taking it all in. Even pushed our dinner plans back so we could enjoy.

Victoria....we all were somewhat beat by the time we got here so we toured own our own for couple of hours and enjoyed the city. I did wish we had gone to Buchart but guess that'll give us a reason to go back. It is a very nice city.

Seattle...DW and I spent two days pre-cruise. Fantastic city and would like to visit again. Nice people, friendly. Clean safe, city and enjoyed our activities...Pike Place, Argosy Cruise, Duck Tour, Space Needle, getting lost  , I think that was all. It was all good.

Let me know if I can answer ??'s Sorry to be long winded.

Hi cruisinlawn-

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply in detail.

Yes, this will be our first trip to Alaska - we have done the Carib several times so know how different this one will be. Hard to imagine packing layers when our cruise experience to date has been limited to tropical get-aways!

We do have excursions in mind (from the cruiseline).... Mendenhall glacier being one and the Yukon/White Pass trip as well.

We'll be sure to try to stay flexible (we are doing anytime dining) to work around the scenery opportunities as they present themselves so that's definitely a good tip... also know not to miss Skagway sailaway.

Thanks again!

Jill
