Can you get lobster in the Lido on that night or just in the dining room.

Lido usually does not offer lobster. It is offered in the dining room and room service.

On longer cruises over 21 days it is also offered in the Lido this can and will vary from ship to ship.

We were on the Oosterdam to Alaska. My DH and I ate many times in the Lido for dinner. They serve the exact same thing that is served in the dining room, but you don't have to dress up. My husband and I had lobster in the Lido and DH even requested another and they brought him two more!

It does appear that it differs by ship.

 

I usually make it a point to check out the Lido dinner menu on that last formal night.

 

You can do this as well -- it is usually posted around or shortly after lunch time in the Lido.

I agree with KK that it appears to vary by ship.

 

I have checked the menu often for the Lido. I have found it is not exactly the same as the dining room. I have noticed it contained at least one less entree than the dining room. I have never seen lobster on the Lido menu.

 

As KK suggested it would be best to check the menu to see what was offered. Maybe you will get lucky and they will have the lobster. ;)

On our Volendam cruise last year no lobster on the Lido. It was available on room service. But let me add in my opinion the very worst lobsters I have had on all cruises have been on HAL. Last year in the DR the lobsters were more like large shrimp, maybe 2 bites of tough over cooked lobster tail meat. I even looked at other tables and all the lobster tails were about the same size. So if you want eat on the Lido and there is no lobster you will not be missing anything. I can get better lobster at Red Lobster than what HAL serves.

 

What was good on Lobster night was the best veal rib roast :D I have ever had and I had my pitiful lobster tail on the side. MY DH had the surf and turf over my recommendation of the Veal roast and her "turf " steak was the size of a silver dollar and as tough as leather.:eek:

Agree with you -- it has been years since we have ordered lobster on a ship. We get shrimp at home that are larger than HAL's 2 -3 bite lobster tails.

Also -- they are kept under those covers too long which keeps them cooking and thus they become very chewy.

On our 24 day Med cruise on the Zuiderdam, April 25-May 20, cold soups were available in the Lido at dinner time.

Don't just blanket say "Those wonderful cold soups are not served in the Lido."

 

We did a late May cruise on the Oosterdam. We had the EXACT menu of the dining room INCLUDING cold soups and lobster!

That is exactly whatfound. Most things are offered but I found there is usually at least 1 less entree. It appears to be the same until you take a good look.

Maybe on some ships/cruises it is the same, but I have never found it to be exactly the same on any of my cruises.

I was on the Volendam last November and the Lobster was a puny tough, tasteless worthless lobster that was no more than2 or 3 bites. I do not consider this to be a nice size at all.:eek: :eek: :eek: :eek:

I have seen it delivered to the tables around us -- tiny!!!

One man even commented to our waiter about the size and then about how tough it was. He noticed that he did order something else.

I also always compare the Lido's dining room menu with the main dining room menu.

I would say that 95% of the time there has always been one less dinner entree and a couple of different soups and salads offered in the Lido.
