an 11:05 flight after cruise...??

We self embarked for the first time off the Emerald in Jan. Now just to let you know, we each had one self carry on size suitcase a piece, and I had my small purse. That's it! Not much luggage for a 10 day trip, but it was worth it and wonderful.

The elevators were jammed as the previous poster said, so we did take the stairs, but the ease in getting off the ship, getting our cab to the airport, and checking in was great!!!

Thanks!! This gives me a good reason to PACK LIGHT!! LOL!

To the OP, you will be fine at FLL airport. Self disembark, get a taxi right away. 10 minute taxi ride if that.

But LAX is a different animal. We have sailed a couple times out of San pedro and once we had an 11:30 flight that we got as a frequent flyer. I was a nervous wreck. The immigration people were unbelievably strict and slow, pulling names up on the computer. I thought we would never get off the ship but we made the flight. My TA was on the same cruise and she missed hers.

For out flight after our cruise in January, we booked an 11:30 flight. We have made that flight time before easily. Of course with the situation with the airlines right now, we have received notification that our flight time has been switched to 11:10. We are keeping that flight time and hoping everything goes ok. I have only cruised twice, both in this past year, and both times we have been at the airport by 9:30. And the last time was with a problem in the cruise terminal (someone set off a fire extinguisher!) There was a wait in disembarking, but we were still at the airport with a couple hours to spare. So I am pretty confident that the 11:10 flight time will be ok.

For peace of mind.

There is always that risk that the ship may get into port late. There could be a tie up on the roads to airport.

So I personally am on the side of the later flite persons

Dewats, you will be fine. Just be ready to self disembark and make a beeline to the taxi line.

I hate it when the airlines change flight times. It happens all the time now.

That is my plan!! That is why I want to self debark. I can be first to the taxi's!

We have flown out of FLL many times and the number of ships in ports does ABSOLUTELY affect the USAIR terminal at the FLL airport. The lines to check in were almost always very long and even people explaining that they needed to move up due to their flight time did not get to their planes on time. In August 06 my sister was flying Southwest and she had no problems while we were standing in the endless line at USAIR. Bottom line, ask for the first color tags off the ship and grab a taxi. And keep your fingers crossed!

We had a much easier experience when disembarking the Golden in San Pedro this last February. We opted for the self disembarkation and were off the ship by 0730, picked up a Super Shuttle at the curb and had 45 min to kill at the gate before our 1025 flight.

As you can see you will get many different answers. Here is mine. Ask for early disbark. No need to lug your luggage. When you get into the luggage terminal hold up a tip and grab a porter. Have the porter grab your luggage and a taxi. It will be quick and painless and you will be at the airport before 9:30. :)

Ditto, In FLL I don't see a problem, if it was Miami I would think differently. Get the earliest tags, grab a taxi and you will be there in plenty of time. Of course, if there is a major issue, flights even after yours will likely have a problem.

Here are my 2 cents -

We sailed on the CB out of FLL in January and April. In January, we booked a 12 noon flight. We were concerned about this so we called Princess and asked them their guidelines about the flight time and they suggested a flight after 10:30 AM for FLL.

When we received our luggage tags, we were given the tags for our deck. We received an information brochure that stated if you flight was at this time, you need this color tags, and if you didn't get them, come to the pursers desk where will will change your disembarkation group. We did this and had absolutely no problem. We were given an 8:15 AM disembarkation, arrived at the meeting point in the dining room at 8:05 and were escorted off of the ship at 8:10. We got our luggage, cleared customs, and were on a cab by 8:30. NOTE - get a CAB and not a SHARED ride van - cab about $12 plus tip as many people and as much luggage as you can fit, shared ride - $9 PER person - and then you have to wait for them to fill the van up.

We were at the airport and through security by 8:45 and at the gate by 9:00 AM. We then waited over 3 hours for our flight.

IMO - I wouldn't mess with self disembark. People struggle with ALL of their luggage down the stairs creating a hazard for those walking down the stairs and they frequently can't control the luggage. Do not count on an elevator to get off of the ship - you won't likely geet one easily. We did not do this and we were fine in getting off of the ship quickly.

SO, for us - an 11 AM flight would have been no problem And there were several ships in port that day with us.
