N7786W Flyer Posted April 12, 2012 #1876 Share Posted April 12, 2012 N7786W Flyer - do you have any pictures of the cabins and other areas of the Mardi Gras? I have lots of the public rooms and of the outside deck space, but not sure if I have photos of the cabins. I only remember that we had an inside room on the Riviera Deck. I can post more it you'd like. Garnett

elcuchio24 Posted April 13, 2012 #1883 Share Posted April 13, 2012 We are going here in a few weeks, what did you feed them? It's not really part of the 'package' at Nachi, but we've become pretty freindly with a couple of the bartenders. The cooks throw out old tortillas, fruit, etc back behind the kitchen and the Coati come and scarf it down. If you ask them I'm sure they'll show you, and let you feed them if you like. They're wild, but pretty friendly. One ofthe highlights of Nachi for us!:)
N7786W Flyer Posted April 13, 2012 #1884 Share Posted April 13, 2012 I know it's a lot of work but I believe a lot of people will enjoy them. Started going back through "the archives" last night and found a few pictures. In looking at them, the first thing that struck me was 1)how old I've grown and how life on Carnival ships has changed in the last 30 years. Things such as the beer drinking contest, Men's Nightgown Contest, Skeet Shooting and cabin steward's pulling out the female guest lingerie (always freaked my wife out) have gone the way of the dinosaur. BTW, I also attached some photos of some of the public spaces... Here's the pool area: Here's some of the lounges and the Dining Room (while a server's parade was underway) More to follow... N7786W Flyer Posted April 13, 2012 #1885 Share Posted April 13, 2012 ...and here's our inside stateroom...I don't remember it being as spartan and the photo indicates...or as messy! Here's the aforementioned Beer Drinking Contest (usually followed by the Pillow Fighting Contest over the pool) ...and the Men's Nightgown Competition... ...and the Skeet Shooting... ...and the Nightgown being arranged by the Cabin Steward....this is the days before the towel animals. Basically, the steward would select a gown he like (apparently) and would either lay it out as pictures OR somehow fashion it into a flower resembling a chrysanthemum...don't ask me how. I'm sure some of the ladies found it highly invasive...
N7786W Flyer Posted April 13, 2012 #1886 Share Posted April 13, 2012 Lastly, here's a picture of the Mardi Gras at Ocho Rios, Jamaica... ...and a picture of my wife and myself "back in the day"... She's a "looker" isn't she??? :) I'm still trying to find the pictures of the main lounge, casino, and hallways. Overall, the Mardi Gras (as I remember her) was a beautiful ship with lots of woods and elegant craftsmanship in her original decor.
Room Service! Posted April 13, 2012 #1887 Share Posted April 13, 2012 Those pics are great. Thanks! In the first set, by the pool. Is the 'rail' around the pool solid? As in you can't see through it?
N7786W Flyer Posted April 13, 2012 #1888 Share Posted April 13, 2012 Actually, there's not a rail. The pool is counter-sunk into the deck about 2 feet. So, you could be treading water and still not be able to reach the top of the pool wall. If you'll look at the guy climbing out of the pool using the ladder, you'll see what I mean. Strange, I know... Garnett

Strange, I know... Garnett Actually I didn't mean around the pool. I mean the rail around the outer deck. Sorry, I worded it wrong. I see in the skeet shooting shot that it is solid. That is strange. To not be able to see the ocean while you're laying in the loungers. Thanks.
N7786W Flyer Posted April 13, 2012 #1891 Share Posted April 13, 2012 Oh, Now I understand... I hadn't really thought about it before. I'll have the check the balance of my pictures and see if the rest of the ship is the same way. My gut feeling is that the "rail" is a holdover from the ship's transatlantic days with Canadian-Pacific (her original owner) as the "Empress of Canada" and the rest of the railings are "normal". MYMOTHERSCHILD Posted April 13, 2012 #1893 Share Posted April 13, 2012 (edited) hey all!I thought i'd start a new thread here, since i am bored at work and need some more entertainment! Everyone post their favorite picture of all time from any carnival cruise. Just one overall, not one from each cruise :). One picture that either sums up the entire trip, cruise experience, or breath-taking surroundings (with the ship name and itinerary of course) i'll post mine as soon as i get home and have access to all my pictures, though it may take awhile to just pick one. (another idea in the future is to post your favorite ship picture and have ccers guess which ship it is, but i went with this one first :) ) grandson diving into cenote on the yucatan....from carnival... Have fun! Edited April 13, 2012 by MYMOTHERSCHILD

LIV 2 CRUISE Posted April 13, 2012 #1896 Share Posted April 13, 2012 Flyer, thanks for posting the old photos -- they were GREAT. Really shows how much cruise ships have changed. I bet the ride was a lot rockier than today's ships, huh??
N7786W Flyer Posted April 13, 2012 #1897 Share Posted April 13, 2012 Flyer, thanks for posting the old photos -- they were GREAT. Really shows how much cruise ships have changed. I bet the ride was a lot rockier than today's ships, huh?? It really depended upon the ship. On some of the smaller ships like NCL's Skyward, the ride could be pretty rough. However, on their Norway we literally slept through a tropical storm and didn't even wake up long enough to notice. I do think, overall, that today's ships "ride" a little smoother...I would speculate the is due to the overall size increase in tonnage, as well as the increase in length (so the ship rides on multiple waves simultaneously).
