As a Carnival stock owner I have to agree that nothing should be allowed to be taken on the ship. Carnival needs to make money on drinks. We could call it a safety issue. We don't know what in those liquor bottles or water bottles. A young woman lost her life on a carnival ship 2 years ago when her boyfriend had drugs in his cough syrup. Use the ships stores, buy the drinks use the casino, book shore excursions, and by all means buy a lot of photo's. As a Carnival stock owner I thank you.

I would gladly buy my soda on board if they carried something that I could have. I drink diet soda and get ill if I consume even a small amount of aspartame, therefore I only drink soda with Splenda as a sweetner. It seems like Carnival can carry a very wide variety of alcohol and beer but are very limited on what they carry for soft drinks. I do drink the iced tea, but also need to limit my caffiene, so that leaves water, which I know is better for me, but I still like to have a soda once a day. I can hear the people who enjoy having a mixed drink or beer if they couldn't get that on board and had to only have water. No offense intended for anybody, we have a few drinks here and there, but it seems like there is much more to choose from if you are a drinker than if you are not. So if Carnival and it's stock holders would like me to not carry on a six pack of Diet Rite and a few bottles of water then they need to try and accomodate the rest of us passengers by giving us more choices.

Ok, I must admit that I'm a water snob. I'm like 1st cousin to the water boy. I'm very picky when it comes to the water I drink.

I travel with bottled water. I am permitted to have it due to health issues. I just show my medical card at the airport and off I go. Wonder if that will work with Carnival........Card reads bottled Aquafina. It is the only one that does not make my stomach go crazy.

Deborahjo, how did you get your medical card? I need one. I was really hoping to bring a case of water on board because that's all I drink. No alcohol or sodas. Every now and then like maybe once a month I'll drink a soda sweetened with Splenda. I'd hate to have to buy a soda card just so I could get bottled water, and there's a certain kind of bottled water I don't drink. I'm surely hoping the water on the ship's Lido deck is fine, or else I'm screwed till I get to the next port. Oh well, I need to work on that medical card. I have health issues too.

This all seems pretty silly, theres plenty of free water all around the ship. Just bring a bucket and a long length of rope.:D

Too funny!

Easy Sailing, the soda card doesn't work for bottled water anyway...

I'm a water snob myself... If I'm drinking bottled, there are certain ones like Aquafina or any bottled water that is tap water, that I won't drink... but I truly enjoy the water on the ship, very refreshing and I can taste nothing in it...

I just cruised on Carnival Inspiration from July 19th - 24th. I had two bottles of water in my carry on when I got on Tampa, and was able to carry on a bottle in my hand when I boarded in both Key West (where we got diverted from Grand Cayman due to T.S. Dolly) and Cozumel Mexico without any problems. :D

their policy say s it for the purpose of controling

alcohol consumption and abuse by minors..

so i don t see where bring aboard seal d bottle d or

can d drink s would be of any harm..

instead of all these word game s..they can just say

we want to make more money off our passengers..

they don t say anything about..*we don t want anyone

bringing any beverage s onboard because it takes away

from our beverage sales*..i can see alot of people

choosing another cruise line for this reason alone..

a possible Poll?..If a cruiseline forbid the bringing of any beverage

onboard.. be reason enough to change cruiselines? Yes or No

No.

When I go out for an evening, I don't take my own liquor bottle with me to save money. When I go to a restaurant, I don't bring my own wine (unless it is a BYOB place) or food to save money. It wouldn't be permitted anyway.

Why anyone would think smuggling booze onboard is a good thing to do is beyond me. Overpriced drinks? Sure.....every bought a drink at an airport or a nightclub or lounge? One could say they are overpriced too.

It reminds me of a bunch of high schoolers trying to get one over on the teachers at the prom.

Just read this...

Water banned on Carnival Cruise ships!

What are they thinking? Just this week Carnival Cruise Lines has revised their bring on beverage policy. Now even water for personal use is banned. Previously passengers were permitted to carry on a reasonable amount of beverages for personal use. This may present a problem for those cruisers who are loyal to one brand of soft drink or water.

Carnival has also revised their alcoholic beverage policy limiting carry on alcohol to one bottle of wine per passenger. These measures should cut down on public drunkenness or will it? I understand that smuggling of alcohol has become something of an art with people trading their secrets for contraband all over the internet. It is a well known secret that many folks empty out mouthwash containers and shampoo bottles for the purpose of refilling them with alcohol. Water bottle and soda bottles were also familiar vehicles to carry on the contraband alcohol. Restricting water will eliminate than avenue of smuggling on your favorite treat.

These policies have been in effect on Royal Caribbean for some time and caused nary a peep out of Royal Caribbean cruisers. It seems carnival passengers are a loyal and vocal bunch.

There really is no logical reason to carry on your own water (unless you require distilled water for a medical device such as a CPAP machine-that will be allowed with a doctor’s note). All of the modern mega liners have their own desalination plants on board which produce excellent quality water for drinking and soda, albeit only certain brands, are available for purchase 24 hours a day.

Funny you bring this up. I have been wondering for a while when the cruise lines would enforce this. Let put it this way....I would rather the cruise lines enforce this then have to pay more for our cruise.

I really can't go into detail, but this has been talked about for a while between the soft drink companies and the cruise lines.

READ THIS "USA TODAY CRUISE LOG"... http://blogs.usatoday.com/cruiselog/2007/04/carnival_revers.html

QUOTE: "Good news, soda-aholics. You again can bring your own stash of Cokes, Pepsis and other sodas on board Carnival ships (and avoid the line's hefty onboard charges for the drinks). The mass market line is reversing a three-week-old ban that caused an uproar among Carnival regulars.

"We have been monitoring reaction to the ban . . . and discussing it at length internally," says Carnival's Vance Gulliksen. "In the end it was decided to allow limited quantities."

The ban, which also applied to bottled water, sparked heavy criticism from cruisers on cruise-focused websites such as cruisecritic.com (not to mention here at the Cruise Log). Passengers said they resented being forced to pay high prices for sodas and bottled water on ships.

Carnival charges $2.25 for a small bottle of Natural Springs water; $3.50 for a big one. Cans of soda are $1.75."

The new Carnival policy says that "guests may bring small quantities of non-alcoholic beverages" on board ships :D -- small being the operative word. Gulliksen says the line will be on the lookout for customers who abuse the allowance.

That's very good to know about Diet Rite! I've recently had to switch from regular soda and have desperately been searching for something that tasted decent and didn't upset my stomach. I think you've just given me a lightbulb moment! Thanks fellow Buckeye!

And I normally don't drink the water on the ship, but after a very hot day in port, a big glass of ice water on the Lido deck tasted like a Nectar of the Gods!

If you really, really, really have to smuggle booze on in the most strict of embarkation environments, I have your answer. Put in ziploc bags and duct tape to your body; unless they do a strip-search you should be fine. Once in your cabin, carefully remove the duct tape, keeping it ready for fixing the many emergencies that always come up. One could even rate cruises by how much duct tape is used.

"Yeah that cruise was a two-roller. I never saw so many bad hem lines. Well, you just have to offer a strip or two when you see that right?"

Water-wise: Hey Carnival. dumb idea to limit that. I bet you would save/make more money NOT filtering and processing the impresive zillion gallons of seawater each day quite so much, forcing the purchase of bottled water from you. Hey, how about a Water Surcharge? Heck, you got us to believe it costs $10 per day per person to buy gas for the ship!

Off topic but think about that. Do you really believe that it takes 2000 people paying $70 each on a 7 day cruise or $140,000 in EXTRA cost over what they were paying before the zany oil prices and that's why they need our help?

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this but there could be another reason behind the bottled water. Florida is seriously considering banning bottled water smaller than 32 ounces. It has turned into a recycling and trash nightmare...I can see the point myself. This has already happened somewhere on the west coast of the US but I am at a loss to remember where. San Fran of Seattle I think.

What I'm getting at is if Florida goes to this policy the ships probably will not be able to get them either in Florida ports. And guess where most of Carnival's ships cruise from.

Yes I am sure there is a money reason also, but I can see this happening with their disposal of waste. The port authority does charge the cruiselines for waste removal.

I always use the bottled water (liter) size in the cabin.

Oh my, what is a pretentious yuppie in Florida to do. South Beach will probably become a ghost town. :D

It's all about the $$$MONEY$$$$..

Pure and simple..

The money we spend on our booking fee's, and all other "Fee's" before we even step one foot on board is barely enough to cover expensis..

The Bread and Butter for the CCL is what we put on our Sail and Sign card..

Our Gratuities are a good portion, if not most of the pay the people working on board recieve.

The wonderfull "Gas Surcharge" was just to make us feel guilty into thinking that the Poor Cruise Industry was loosing money.

Banning anything being brought on board was to make you spend more $$$ on the ship..

But it's a fact of life,

We enjoy cruising, we pay the jack it takes to fulfill our pleasure.

I dont like paying double for a drink or beer or even Soda. I will bypass as much as possible whenever and wherever possible. But tiss the nature of the beast.

Same goes for most restaurants, bars, sporting events, concerts, etc. I pay more for a drink at most of those places but I'm not going to stop going :)

Brita, and several other brands, make special water bottles with filters. They usually cost about $20 including the first filter, which lasts 2-3 months, depending on how often you fill it.......... if you continued using it at home instead of buying bottled water, not to mention it is much better for the environment.

Hi there

Where did you get these? We used to be able to get them but can't any more. I still have the bottle but can't get the filters for them. It was the best.

Florida is seriously considering banning bottled water smaller than 32 ounces. It has turned into a recycling and trash nightmare.....

That is one of the reasons I am looking for the filters cause in our area, they are banning small bottles as well. Not to mention that if you reuse them (small water bottles the water comes in) that the chemicals in the plastic leach.
