I have given up on the Sky.

I just looked at thoose 2 threads. Neither of them were in cabins affected by no A/C or non-working toilets. Neither of them described a "good" cruise, just OK. The first one mentioned the warmth throughout the ship and the poor service, even though they were trying very hard (which they were). All the responses were "thanks for the information." Those are not accurate threads for someone looking to cruise the Sky should look at to make a choice. Ask your friend who works on the ship if there was a flood on the second and third decks were on Tuesday the 22nd night. That was when the toilets had the most problems. I heard from one guset and one crew member comfirmed it, but, I do not know for sure if there really was a flood.

... I suspect that was kind of the point - they were NOT affected by the major problems, which means there are undoubtedly more just like them.

... I highly doubt ANY of the first five cruises on a ship with a new crew are going to have glowing, rave reviews. I've only been here a few weeks and I've figured that much out.

Someone who returned today posted in this thread:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=817176

about functioning AC, even in the common areas. Clearly NCL is, in fact, addressing issues. As I said - perhaps it is too little, too late, but at leas they're trying.

I agree that NCL have finally started to address it but why the dickens did they have to be bombarded by emails to top brass executives first?

They have had at least 4 years to get the ship up to scratch and they have failed abysmally.

A few people on this board start emailing the top brass and all of a sudden things start happening.....that is NOT how it should be. The ship has been faulty from day one and they have chosen to be in complete denial of it...well now its come back and bitten them on their corporate backsides...and about time too.

I agree. Sounds like they didn't experience a catastrophe, but it sounded like things were just OK for them. I'm waiting to hear a glowing review.

I had been trying to make up my mind about whether or not I should cancel my cruise on the Sky. I finally just broke down and called NCL hoping they would reassure me that everything was being worked on. As soon as I told the represenative that I was booked on the Sky she let out a long sigh. I asked about all the problems that I had read about on here. At first she claimed she had no idea what I was talking about. As soon as I brought up that the problems seemed to be the same as the Pride of Aloha she informed me that everyone that has a cabin affected by this problem was being contacted. Then very rudly she told me that was all the information she had and if she could help me with anything else. I am sure she has been fielding calls all week regarding the Sky. I believe this is just the overall attitude of NCL. Facts are - They are still trying to sell this ship. They have known about the plumbing and A/C issues since 2004 when it was the Pride of Aloha (good luck finding a good review then) RCCL backed out of buying the Sky. (wonder why?) They are only planning on sailing through spring of next year. Sounds like to me they are attempting to squeeze every cent out of the Sky. Sounds like someone should teach them the lesson of stepping over dollars to save cents. I will never use their product again. They should be ashamed of what they are doing. Its one thing to have unforseen problems and quite another just to overlook them. I recommend to anyone that can afford or still has time to CANCEL their cruise. I am already looking at Carnival and Rccl. Good luck
this is not meant to be attacking you personally nor am I defending NCL;

I know nothing about RCI backing out of a deal to buy the Sky. This would be a bit unusual as most mass marketed lines do not buy from one an other, but I am not going to argue as I don't know.

Your choice not to sail NCL is yours to make. I too would be frustrated if I were booked on the Sky. This is to bad, as we sailed her just before she left for Hawaii and loved our cruise and the ship. Times do change. I am sure the agent appeared rude, why? Because she was tired of all the calls she was getting. Is this an excuse? Absolutely not, but it is a reason. It is like when hubby gets on the phone with customer service (any company, anymore) and gets the run around, he get very testy and I must say, rude. I am always telling him to be nice, but I do understand his frustrations as well.

As for your recommendation to everyone, I do take exception to that, this is up to everyone to decide for themselves and certainly not all cabins or decks are being affected. Again, I am not defending NCL on this one, I just think it is up to individuals to decide, maybe listening to their agents but not to someone they do not know that hasn't experienced the ship recently.

Nita, Pullmantur (belongs to RCI) had a deal on the table for Sky at $380m and it fell over after Pullmantur withdrew the offer. Tween the lines it is highly possible that service issues with the ship's facilities may have had a bearing on the pull out.

Pullmantur have also got two ex CCL ships now, so they are not too choosy as to where their ships come from as many lines would possibly be.

Im sorry you take exception to my recommendation about the sky. And since I feel so bad I am willing to sell you my Penthouse suite that I have reserved on the Sky for 3,000.00.

P.S.

You may need a raincoat, a fan and a portapotty. But I am sure you will have a great time.

Cheers

thanks for clearing that up. This would be like Star buying some ship from a mass marketed line but not puting it into the NCL fleet. I do remember Pullmantur belonging to RCI now, I didn't know about the attempt to buy NCL. My thought, simply was, RCI itself wouldn't be likely to be purchasing a ship from another mass marketed line as we know them, say Carnival, HAL, Princess, etc.

We learn something new everyday.

again, I really wasn't attempting to attack you, and I understand your pulling out, I just do not feel everyone has experienced the problems and some actually have said they enjoyed their cruise, so I think we need to let everyone read as much as they want about the past cruises (last few weeks) and make up their minds. I would love to take your suite, but am pretty busy right...LOL

I contacted NCL today since we are scheduled to sail 8/22. Within an hour they called me back. Unfortunately, our booked cabin is one of the affected cabins with no air conditioning and toilet issues. I was assured that the problem would be fixed by our sail date or we would be moved to another cabin. Jean from NCL told me he would call me back should they not be able to fix our cabin problems. He said they have management on the ship and "good" reports have started to come - meaning problems are being fixed. There are five of us meeting from various areas of the U.S. - our flights are booked so we're pretty much stuck with the situation. I'm going to hope NCL is not tricking me with this information and pray for the best!

I do wish you luck. A few folks on here have really spoke up for NCL. It is only a shame it took all the negative publicity to MAKE them attempt to fix the problems. One thing to keep in mind and to me this is the most compelling evidence, the same problems have been going on since 2004 when she was the Pride of Aloha. I have a hard time thinking that if they were not comitted to fix the ship in 2004 then why would they fix it when it was 4 years older?

Not much of this was reported on my sailing Jan/Feb '08. Some reported some smells, but that was about the worst of it (I don't know that I've ever been on a ship where some people didn't complain of 'sewer' smells and I've been on 17 sailings). We had a great time although there were some service problems not relating to mechanical problems on the ship

I have searched and searched since the first sailing to try to find anything negative or positive for the reviews or problems. The only reviews I have found are here do you have any other resourse than here? And could you please post them?

What I know is what I have read on here from others that have cruised the Sky and when it was the pride of aloha.

I spoke with someone from Executive Office today myself -she had sailed on the initial sailing herself and was moved to another room due to some issues that everyone has spoken of here.

There is a "Team' flown in to deal special to work on all the issues and correct them.

Yes-they do all check what everyone posts here daily and they have been flooded with calls and emails.

Anyone who has an affected room will be moved pre-cruise. If you are not contacted, then your cabin is safe.

They are aware of issues in dining and stated that is getting better as time goes on.

They did have a major issue this past sailing due to someone flushing a sand-filled balloon. I would think that was one of the kids on the ship being cute and adding to the mess. Thats what you get when kids sail free and the ship is over-run and activities cannot handle all the extras.

She assured me as of now my cabin is a safe cabin. I told he if it wasn't the Captain and I are gonna get real close in his a/c -toilet working cabin.

So, I am gonna hope this is true and things will improve. I am sorry all those before have had a vacation ruined. It is sad indeed.

I hated on of our cruises in the past and went on another short one to get the bad taste out if you will shortly after. Lucky we can -living in Florida.

Hope and pray it all gets better...........:)

We were on the Sky last week for the 7/21 sailing. Small % affected??? That is a flat out lie. As for changing cabins not being difficult. What a joke. 2 families were mover 4 times do to over booking of rooms and broken AC and Toilets. I would never trust the word of an NCL employee. Guess who signs their pay ??? Also if it were an employee who works on tips I would want the ship as full as possible!!!

check!!!!

I just spoke to someone working on the sky and she said that the cabins affected are a very small % and they are having no issues moving people to different rooms because the ship isn't sailing full. Some people who moved to a smaller cabin even got $100 obc and thats a really good deal considering its a 3 day cruise.

JoJo - if you're calling something a flat out lie, please provide specific details (ie number of cabins affected that you can provide statistical support for), that you have been informed of by NCL, NOT by either fellow pax or by extrapolating numbers based upon the number of cc posters that encountered problems. Also, as to trusting the word of an NCL employee - I'm a believer in trust but verify. Thus, I will trust your comment that NCL is lying in regards to the number of cabins affected when you verify exactly HOW YOU KNOW THIS TO BE THE CASE.

My son is cruising the Sky 8/8 - this is how he's chosen to spend part of his leave before he leaves for the Middle East and I, above all, hope that NCL continues to work on problem resolution to sort out the issues. I have confirmed (on my son's behalf who is currently on maneuvers stateside) that his cabin is NOT one of the ones affected and I will tell him to go expecting to have a great time and I trust that he will.

Why the need to continue ranting about NCL lying - I'm sorry you had a bad cruise but move on. Think about it - it could have been worse - it could have been your last vacation before leaving to be stationed in the Middle East for 18 months, right?

JEEZ..........0 perspective.

I was in a cabin very close to JOJO. The % is impossible to attest to b/c onLY NCL has those #'s, however, I can tell you that I personally talked to atleast 20 different cabins that had either A/C or toilet problems and everyone on that cruise (7-21) knows how warm the common areas were.

Most people I talked to were either at the casino or the pool. I am sure I did not talk to all involved, but, I would say that atleast 25% of the people I talked to had one of the two main problems (NOT 25% OF THE ENTIRE SHIP, JUST 25% OF THE PEOPLE I SPOKE TO).

On the flip side, it sounds as though the A/C has been fixed in the common areas and that NCL has moved guests away from "problem" rooms. Sounds like things are moving in the right direction, SO GOOD FOR NCL AND ALL FUTURE CRUISERS ON THE SKY.

I may sound like sour grapes, but, until you have been on a hot stinky ship for 5 days you may not understand. I told my wife that the temperature was most likely between 80 and 85 for most of the cruise, but, every little thing that went wrong seemed to make it even hotter. By Friday morning my blood was boiling and it felt like it was 95. I hope you see my point. Part of some of us posting here is to vent, but, the other part is to make sure future cruisers have a better experience than we did. It sounds like that is happening so HAPPY SAILING EVERYONE.

Watch, nobody has stats on the actual number of 'affected' cabins, and I don't think anyone will really ever know. Depends on what one deems "affected".

My balcony cabin lost electric and a/c for a couple hours late the first night. I was given the "only cabin left" which was an inside to spend the night in. Thank goodness management came to escort us to the balcony cabin to gather our things. As we got our things together for the move, a capable electrician showed up and fixed the problems. Nice!

However...I'm not sure if I'd consider my old cabin a bad one or not. For our purposes now, I'd say throw 9035 on the list of affected cabins so its thoroughy checked out for the benefit of the next folks.

you know saying something is a lie is calling the person saying this a liar: that is pretty strong. As much as I often differ from some of the postings on CC and question the poster, I don't think I have ever called someone a liar. This is the perfect way to get your thread pulled and your voice not heard...

I honestly do not know what people think on here, do they really think NCL is just going to let people sail in cabins with no A/C and let you find out when you get to the pier. come on guys and girls some of you just want to ***** cause you feel like saying something, most of the posters on here want to cause more panic, in reading this post alone multiple people have posted that all cabins should be repaired by the next couple of weeks and that anyone in those cabins will be moved to another stateroom that has no issues.

WHATS THE PROBLEM PEOPLE? Worst case secnerio you will just be in another room and your going to get on board credit to live it up a bit.

If only these things would happen when I sail so I can get OBC.

It may also be of note that as they go with future sailings, they could simply be not selling additional cabins until they are certain the problems are being resolved - thus solving the problems of not having enough cabins to move people to.

By the same percentage extrapolations some are so fond of, there have been "a number" of people canceling regardless. Take that percentage and apply it to the general public, and gracious - half the ship has probably canceled by now. That should give them plenty of space to move people around!
