Cruise2Golf Posted July 29, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 29, 2008 The next place to go on my families list is Australia. We have cruised and done land vacations before and love both. We're a family of four ages 52, 53, 18, and 24. We have cruised 3 times before (twice on carnival, once on celebrity) to the caribbean, alaska, and the med. We were wondering if anyone who has maybe been to Australia, cruising or not could tell us which method they believe is the best to expeirience Australia? Thank you! Tripmaven Posted July 30, 2008 #2 Share Posted July 30, 2008 We have done both the cruise and the land tour of Australia. Cruising, without a doubt, offers much in the way of convenience. For many people this is important due to a variety of personal factors. It was very satisfying to revisit Australia on our cruise and not feel bound to see everything in one day or two. That being said, the land tour, for us, gave us the opportunity to see much more of Australia. Four of us spent a month going from the northern coast to the outback and back to the cities. It takes an enormous amount of planning, but in the end is a very satisfying experience. We spent an average of three days in each city and 5 days in the outback. We experienced the cultures of each area, took the famous Ghan train and visited many of the main tourist sites. Even than, time didn't allow for many areas. There are some cruises that are more concentrated and even circumnavigate Australia, which we did not investigate. This could be a good option. All Australians will say that Australia is so vast that a few days is not enough. Hope this helps.
Globaliser Posted July 30, 2008 #3 Share Posted July 30, 2008 We were wondering if anyone who has maybe been to Australia, cruising or not could tell us which method they believe is the best to expeirience Australia? If you want to have a cruise, and as part of that graze small bits of Australia, then a cruise is the thing to do. If you want to see and experience Australia, a cruise is not the way to do it - not even a circumnavigation.
Rare MMDown Under Posted July 31, 2008 #4 Share Posted July 31, 2008 I agree that the best way to see Australia, such a vast country, is by land. If you decide to cruise, include a land trip at the beginning/end of your cruise to get a taste of Australia. If you travel off season, you don't need to book your accommodation in advance, except for your day of arrival. Just check whether there are any festivals/activities on, if there is somewhere you particularly want to visit. The weather is an important factor in choosing when and where to travel.
