Cynde Posted August 8, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 8, 2008 Has anyone used the new Passcard as opposed to a Passport? Looks like we will be able to use these on our Eastern Caribbean trip to St Thomas, St Maartin and Bahamas next year but....didn't want to get down there with them and find out we can't board ship or get off at port. The cards are supposed to be half the price so if we can save some money....
red1der1 Posted August 8, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 8, 2008 I believe the first group of people to recieve the cards just got them yesterday so they havn't had a chance to use them yet. There was someone on here who did get them yesterday and was leaving today so we have to wait till they come back to here more about them. But you can use them as long as you are entering the US via ship. You can't use them to fly back.

The pass card is only better in that you only need to carry one document opposed to carrying a birth certificate and drivers license. You still can't fly home if an emergency happens like you could with a passport. Bill
Cynde Posted August 8, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted August 8, 2008 Oh My Gosh.....REALLY good point about flying home if there were an emergency. I didn't even think about this....OR...we missed the ship and had to fly to catch up. Think we may want to go ahead and get full passport.
abw2005 Posted August 8, 2008 #5 Share Posted August 8, 2008 We are opting for the passport, my husband has had one for many years and his just needs to be renewed, and I will need to get one. Better safe than sorry!
bmacri Posted August 8, 2008 #6 Share Posted August 8, 2008 I know you can still cruise different places with a drivers liscence and a birth certificate. How about a Mexican Cruise in Feb. 09?

How about a Mexican Cruise in Feb. 09? Yes that's all you need. Even after June 1, 2009 that's all you need as long as your cruise departs and returns to the same port. oceanbums Posted August 9, 2008 #8 Share Posted August 9, 2008 We also chose the regular passports, just to be covered in case of emergency. Why take the chance of being stranded or having to go through all the red tape if you have to fly back.
southbayer Posted August 9, 2008 #9 Share Posted August 9, 2008 Oh they Finally started sending out the passport cards ??? I'll have to apply for one now.
Bases5 Posted August 9, 2008 #10 Share Posted August 9, 2008 Can you have both, A regular passport and then get a card? The card seems more convenient, but I would never give up my passport.

cruise_pirate Posted August 9, 2008 #13 Share Posted August 9, 2008 We all know the rule you do not need a passport if you leave and return to the same US port right?? Ok what about the people on the Fantasy who left from NO and returned to Mobile? If something like that happens then what? Guess you have to stay on the ship:rolleyes:
