micro yaya Posted August 15, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 15, 2008 Which port is your favorite departure port? Miami Fort Lauderdale San Juan Tampa/Orlando San Diego Los Angeles sorry but the cape in florida is the best, and if you go the day before you can watch cruise ships pass before you very eyes it's amazing........... brightonguys Posted August 16, 2008 #5 Share Posted August 16, 2008 Of the choices listed, our vote is for FLL because of the short distance between plane and ship. BUT, we'd otherwise say NYC for cruising by the amazing skyline, the statue of liberty, and under the Verazanno Narrows bridge.

Loftguys Posted August 16, 2008 #7 Share Posted August 16, 2008 For us San Juan! Reasons: fly in a couple of days early and relax and unwind and already be in the caribbean! Its like adding another island to the cruise.

NCCruzQueen Posted August 17, 2008 #11 Share Posted August 17, 2008 I have sailed away from Venice twice. It is amazing. Stockholm, going through the archipelgos would be second. Both are quite memorable.
skf Posted August 17, 2008 #12 Share Posted August 17, 2008 Yes, Venice was amazing too. Did you have the boaters playing chicken with the tugboat while backing out ?
NCCruzQueen Posted August 17, 2008 #13 Share Posted August 17, 2008 Hi skf, We were on small ships (max pax 180 and 490). I really don't remember boaters vs. the tug, but we were on the Venice side enjoying the sights.

Fidel2Cruise Posted August 17, 2008 Author #15 Share Posted August 17, 2008 I originally created the post to get a better sense of which domestic ports/cruises might have more "family" cruising; but as always, my "family" continues to set a standard of taste and variety. I just wish I had more vacation time to taste all the wonderful ports mentioned. Someday, I will get to go on the European Cruise I dream of. d&a Delaware Posted August 17, 2008 #16 Share Posted August 17, 2008 I voted for Ft. Lauderdale only because it has been the best of two we have experienced. But we're sailing out of Bayonne in November and it could become my favorite simply because we can drive to it, see NYC skyline & Verazzano Bridge on way out, etc. And then, we will try San Juan next April. My favorite could change very quickly. David

Boat_Drinks Posted August 18, 2008 #19 Share Posted August 18, 2008 I'll second (third? fourth?) Venice as one of the most beautiful ports to sail in/out of - it was simply stunning, with Time To Say Goodbye playing over the ship's sound system and a nice historic narrative being provided (this was on Emerald Princess). I've never cruised in/out of NYC but that must be quite magnificent too. :)

Boytjie Posted August 18, 2008 #22 Share Posted August 18, 2008 Ft. Lauderdale mainly because 2 of our 3 RSVP cruises left from there (Seattle was the other). I'd would like to do a cruise that starts and ends in my home port!

skf Posted August 19, 2008 #24 Share Posted August 19, 2008 New York is wonderful...if you go back to my post #12 about the boaters it would be hard for the Venizians to match the speedboat driver in NY harbor attempting to cut across the path of Crown Princess. Three blasts of the ship's horn must have made him think "I don't want to die this way" because he pulled over. Steve
