Viking Elegant Elbe-Veterans

Would like some recommendations from travelers with recent first hand experinence on this trip. Any preference in leaving from Berlin or Prague?

What hotels were used in both cities? I know that the cabins are small-120 sq. feet. Can to rate this trip prepared to Rhine-Danbue, etc?

This was the only Viking trip we have taken. Taking it next year will be better because the Schumann will be renovated. The cabins need it badly. They are all the same to the last detail, so it doesn't pay to book the most expensive cabin. We went from Berlin to Prague. The trip was wonderful despite the broken A/c in our cabin--took too long to fix. The food was very good, the crew delightful. Christian, our tour director, was excellent. We were always on time--no waiting for laggards. The local guides were very knowledgeable with an excellent command of English. We stayed at the Sol Melia in Berlin---brand new last summer. We stayed in the Hilton in Prague--well located just one block from the trams and metro. We thought the trip was very good. One nice thing--the chair lift went all the way to the sun deck making it accessible to all on board.

We had rain and some cool weather--travelled in June. The tours went as scheduled--just need to be prepared for rain. It was such a good trip--we then took the train to Vienna for a week. We live in Dayton--are you really still in Cincy? Pat

We have 2 river cruises confirmed---Christmas markets, Nurenberg to Cologne with Vantage. They were they only line doing this itinerary in 2008. It is the only one with Bamberg--a must for me because of the creches in the churches. We leave out of Cincy on Nov 30th. The other is with Viking in April of next year--Antwerp to Basel. Again, it was the itinerary. Uniworld spent too much time in Amsterdam, Viking only one day. Plus we've never been to Antwerp. Would also like to do the Druro in the fall of next year. Just waiting to see if any really good deals surface. Pat

We also considered Uniworld Druro trip for this Spring. Prices were prettty good, however, flights are more limited. Fly into Lisbon and return from Porto. I understand the AMA also has cruises and spend more time in Lisbon. From personal experience their choice of hotels is amazing! Let us know about your Druro experience if you decide to travel.
