Merion_Mom Posted August 24, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 24, 2008 According to the cashier in the casino on the Liberty tonight, ALL ships started charging 3% last week to get money in the casino. If you have JUST returned from a cruise that left August 16th or later, please describe your experience here. Is this woman's assertion correct? Is it now truly fleet-wide?

Caribbean_Dreamer37 Posted August 24, 2008 #5 Share Posted August 24, 2008 What is the 3% fee being charged for? The casinos on those ships are just as tight as Las Vegas. There was a machine on the last cruise we took, where a stack of cash bills were forcibly pushed against a metal strip along the side of the machines, which made it impossible to be pushed by a bunch of quarters to 'win' the stack. PhoenixCruiser Posted August 24, 2008 #6 Share Posted August 24, 2008 Carol, I think we all saw this coming due to some folks who just flat out abused the privilege    ###

mommykim Posted August 24, 2008 #9 Share Posted August 24, 2008 If you get $100 cash off your seapass they will actually charge you $103 for it. hey were losing money on people who would take advances from the casino for the points and not actually gamble with it. G'ma Posted August 24, 2008 #10 Share Posted August 24, 2008 What are they adding the 3% to? In order to get a cash advance in the casino for gambling, you must have a credit card on file with your account card. The ship passes the 3% credit card transaction fee on to you. Credit card companies charge merchants and vendors a fee when you use your credit card. Most places even things out buy upping their prices (Ever bought gas at a "cash or credit" station and noticed that the credit price is higher? Same thing). I guess RCI decided to stop eating this charge and began passing it on to the cardholder. Too many people were abusing the privilege...and using the casino as a person ATM cash withdrawl and not actually gambling with the money. Many ships have been charging for years. RCI simply caught up.

Ladylouwho Posted August 24, 2008 #12 Share Posted August 24, 2008 We always cruise RCL but last Thanksgiving took a Carnival Cruise with friends. Carnival charged the 3% for the cash at the Casino and my husband was not happy. Me? Just part of doing business. Kind of like an ATM type surcharge. Not really that big of a deal. I mean, I would rather pay 3% to take out some money in the Casino than have them continue to cut back on the service like they have been doing. JMO. cruzr4vr Posted August 24, 2008 #13 Share Posted August 24, 2008 I know they charge the 3% at the casino cage, but do they also charge the 3% when you get chips at a table???
DizzyDallasDi Posted August 24, 2008 #14 Share Posted August 24, 2008 I know they charge the 3% at the casino cage, but do they also charge the 3% when you get chips at a table??? Can you get chips at a table on RCCL with your sign and sail card? My experience has been that I had to use cash at the tables to get chips. If that's the case, I seriously doubt they'll add an extra 3% to the cash-for-chips exchange. However, if your table luck is like mine, you'll be giving back much more than 3% while playing. ;)
cruzr4vr Posted August 24, 2008 #15 Share Posted August 24, 2008 We have gotten chips on previous cruises at the table..when I didn't have a chance to get to the bank pre-cruise..but that was before the 3% surcharge so I would like to know if there is the charge at the tables also. mommykim Posted August 24, 2008 #16 Share Posted August 24, 2008 Yes, it is. It's done the same way as taking it form the cage.
barbarah Posted August 24, 2008 #17 Share Posted August 24, 2008 Is the 3% surcharge also applied to any On Board Credit? I like to take some of it out as cash for the casino.
Gilpet Posted August 24, 2008 #18 Share Posted August 24, 2008 We were on Legend a couple of years ago and used our sea pass to get tokens for the slot machines, is this what they are charging the 3% for? That's not cash so do people get the tokens and then cash them in? Am I being stupid or just an innocent? Gill

Lyncruiser Posted August 24, 2008 #23 Share Posted August 24, 2008 The casinos are run by a third-party vendor. Not, RCCL. So, the vendor, obviously, has decided not to eat the 3% charge anymore.
MaryL31 Posted August 24, 2008 #24 Share Posted August 24, 2008 This is all about people who take the money from the casino and are using their RCCL BOA credit card, to get the double points on their card. If this is what they're doing fleet-wide, so be it. Works for me, as we will be in the Casino much less as we have to bring the $ from home instead of getting it from the cage. Slots are ridiculously tight on NOS...they will see their casino revenue drop...but I will definately keep more $ in MY POCKET!!!
Gilpet Posted August 24, 2008 #25 Share Posted August 24, 2008 It looks like we'll have to suffer the 3% charge then because I really haven't got the time (or inclination) to change money up to dollars after having had a nightmare with the bank sorting out the euro's. We limit outselves to £10 a night in the casino so for a 10 night cruise it'll only cost an extra £6, but it is a shame that the greedy ones spoil it for everybody else!
