we had a similar schedule for HAL Statendam, and since we wanted to do the 4 glacier helicopter tour with Era, and 4:00 pm was the earliest time available.

It took us almost an hour to leave the ship .. it was our first port and people were excited to get off, and lots of excursions planned.

So, we went on the helicopter tour, although it was raining, and then shopped in town .. we did not have much to walk to get to the stores, and then went back to the ship for dinner.

I wanted to go to the Mendenhall glacier, but no buses running after 6:30 pm and didn't wan to spend $45 (one way) for a cab.

Most of the stores were open late.

You have a lot of touring choices, with your port time. Do your homework and look over a shore excursion list, and narrow down your interests, then repost your top choices, if you want more specific information.

We rented a car from Rent A Wreck and drove ourselves around. Our ship arrived at 2 and stayed until 10. Rent A Wreck picked us up at the dock in the car we were renting and drove us to there office for paperwork and then we were off. $79.00 total including a $15 fee to drop the car off downtown by 8 PM. We were able to drive to Mendenhall Glacier, Shrine of St Therese, where we saw whales in the channel, the Salmon Hatchery, as well as visit a market for some supplies and shop downtown before dropping the car off. Very worthwhile.

I am sailing on the Carnival Spirit this coming Sept. 17th. We too, have the 2pm to 11pm time frame. We are going with Harv & Marv on Sept. 19th, on the 4 hour whale watching excursion (with a stop at Mendenhall Glacier on the return trip back to the ship/downtown area).

This worked out PERFECTLY as it will be getting dark by the time we see Mendenhall Glacier but hopefully we have just enough light to get a pic or two, but at least being there will be fine with me, because it's just a brief stop. What we do is meet up with Harv & Marv at 2:30 p.m and go on our whale watching excursion.

We feel that once we are back at the ship or downtown area, that we can still have plenty of time to eat in Juneau while doing some shopping and not worry about missing the ship, because of the late departure time!

Hope you have a WONDERFUL cruise. I know we are so excited to go very soon!
