Something to do close to ship

Is there an area within walking distance of the ship where my teenage daughter and I can shop and walk around while my husband and son are off at the zipline course?

 

We all want to snorkel or go to the beach together in the afternoon, but we may seperate in the morning. Is there areas we should avoid for safety reasons?

Carlisle Bay/Lobster Alive/Boatyard (all the same thing!)

is not far beyond the main shopping area of Broad Street, in Bridgetown.

 

If you're already on Broad St. all you really need to do

is go up the the end of the street

to the open square with its statue of Admiral Lord Nelson (Royal Navy)

cross the bridge to your right (South East)

go under the arch at the other end of that bridge

and keep walking another 250 yds up Bay St.

until you get to Boatyard's bright (yellow?) wall.

 

Not 25 yds. beyond that is an open window to the sea/beach

whereby you can gain free access to Carlisle Bay's excellent white sand beach,

and hire a chair,umbrella,drink from Lobster Alive if you care to.

 

Watersports avilable on that beach, Waverunners etc.

-as well as quick tours to snorkel over the 1916 wreck of the old tugboat BERWYN

with lotsa fish

I've been spending a bunch of time playing with Google Earth. :D

 

I am assuming we come in at the North end of Princess Alice Hwy since the other docks don't look large enough for cruise ships.

 

If the above assumption is correct, I am guessing the roundabout you keep talking about with the human drivers is the circle just south of the port area where it says "Bridgetown Port Gates".

 

Also, can you give me an idea where on the map I would go to catch the buses to Holetown?

 

Could we also catch a bus here to take us over to the Broad St area you were talking about?

I've heard that the Boatyard can be a party place and we aren't into that.

Most people pay the Boatyard entrance fee that gets them the chair -the drink -the umbrella -the ride back to the ship

and then exit the beach-club part of the operation

and go sit out on the quiet beach and chill, away from the noisy/young party crowd.

 

Which is why I suggested you walk 35 steps further along

and access the free beach via the much quieter Lobster Alive!

which is immediately next door to Boatyard -except nicer/quieter

and you can have lobster or other seafood for Lunch!

and it's on the left, other side of Pelican Village craft center

You'll see other cruisers simply walking...follow them..

It's about a mile, all told.

 

Generally it's the elderly or infirm that take a cab....or when it's a hot day

 

It's a cheap 5min.(less!) cab-ride for about $3-4 usually

..and that'll put you down right on Broad Street
