will celebrity be a good fit for me?

My wife and I are in our mid-fifties. We have booked our second Celebrity cruise next year. We were on Century in March for a nice trip in the Caribbean. We are both professionals. We have cruised on Disney, Royal Caribbean, and Carnival before. We really liked Celebrity for several reasons. The dining experiences were varied and first rate. The persons on board with us were considerate and seemed to enjoy the cruise. Our table for eight at dinner included a nice range of ages and experiences. Most had cruised before or had travelled outside of the United States. We also liked the fact that the pace of Celebrity was more relaxed, not trying to sell you stuff all of the time, or get you to attend one thing after another as we experienced on Carnival. Hope these quick impressions will help you decide to try Celebrity. I believe you will be happy that you did!

Can anyone --in general terms --- describe the typical celebrity passenger and what they are expecting in a cruise? I am trying to determine if I would feel comfortable and happy with Celebrity.

The demographics on Celebrity are very diverse as far as socio economic class, but older than most of the mass market cruise lines, with the exception of Holland America.

Celebrity has a lot less organized activities than Royal Caribbean or Carnival, and tends to attract people who prefer a laid back cruise experience where they can entertain themselves instead of being entertained.

When and what itienerary are you looking to cruise? That will give us some idea of how to explain the ships. For example, if you are looking for a cruise during school time, you will tend to find few children. If you are looking to cruise longer than 7-9 days, the average age will be older due to cost and time needed to get away. But that applies to all cruiselines, I'd think.

Celebrity is quieter. No towel animals, no belly flop contests, no constant P.A. announcements. But they have decent entertainment and activities if you are interested. If I were taking a family or multi generational group on a cruise, I'd choose Royal Carib. or one of the other large mainstream ships. Thus guaranteeing something for everyone.

My DH and I enjoy Celebrity when we are traveling alone due to service and just a nicer atmosphere ...for us. The other cruisers, I agree, are more traveled than a lot of the people on first cruises. We also like formal dining. Celebrity is traditional. Some lines have done away totally from those special nights. That might make you decide one way or the other.

Everyone has different tastes, so it's hard to say what would fit you.

If this is a first cruise you might want to sit down with a cruise specialist travel agency and they can give you the ins and outs of the various lines and itineraries.

Good luck!

no belly flop contests,

 Is that a rule? No belly flopping....me and hubby might have to change our plans:( .....JUST kidding...it'll be too cold for hubby to swim, and honestly, I don't think I've ever been the belly flopping kinda gal.

We didn't know, when we booked our cruise, that the crowd was going to be older, but from the roll call for our group, I think I might be one of the younger passengers.

We sailed on the Galaxy from Galveston on the partial Panama Canal cruise. We really had a good time and loved the ship, staff and especially the food. I was surprised at the number of tux's and long, formal gowns. I was also struck by all the wonderful dancers. The pax were mostly our age (50-60's), probably because this was a 12 day cruise during early December. The ambience just was elegant, up-scale and just what we were looking for. We liked it so much, we chose Celebrity Summit for our Med cruise next year.:D

DH and I are in our late 40's. We are cruising on Celebrity again this January.

Our first cruise with Celebrity was after a couple of Carnival cruises with our kids and my parents. Celebrity was very different than Carnival for us.

Since then we have sailed Princess a few times and also Windstar.

Windstar gave us the best service and also had the best food.

Celebrity was second in these categories.

Princess and Carnival were very close to each other.

The only complaint I had about Celebrity was that there was no night life. The place closed down about 10 pm. Hubby and I would walk into bars and be the only ones in them. It was almost spooky!

We are traveling with friends this Celebrity cruise so we will make our own night life this time :)

I hope you give them a try, I think you will enjoy them.

I have cruised a number of times and I find myself liking Celebrity for the food, service, and ship's maintainence. Their entertainment on board allows me to be as active as I want to be. Demos are a bit older than most lines, as has been mentioned, but I don't find that an issue. My DH and I have a good time regardless of the age of those around us. If they fed me pureed steak I'd leave the ship:D .

Jan, You are right on that point! Especially if cruising when kids are in school and young parents are at home with them. My DH and I are late 50's and we were amazed more people weren't out and about after 10. We ended up going to bed a little earlier than normal, but it worked out well. Had us getting up earlier and we'd spend at least an hour on the balcony sipping our coffee and just planning our days. Then we'd go up for a bowl of fruit and cereal before leaving the ship. Was so relaxing to start the day like that.

And when we had a full itinerary, we appreciated the extra rest in the evening.

I too am looking for a little help. We have sailed twice with Carnival and twice with Royal Caribbean and we have a 14 da Cruise to Alaska next week on royal. I am however looking at a 19 night cruise from Sydney Australia to Ohau in Mar 2010 on Millennium. We are in our mid 50's. I love the itenirary but have never sailed this cruise line. Have also only had balcony rooms. I have read the ship's review and it seemed fine. I understand that Celebrity is owned by royal so can you tell me if we have RCL shares does celebrity acknowldege this for on board credits? If the price drops for our saling will we be credited if we call? Any other information you could provide would be really appreciated. thanks

DH and I are in our early 40's. As many posters have stated , if you're looking for lively night life you probably won't find it on X, however, the days are so wonderful, relaxing and peaceful that it doesn't matter. Prices are good, so you get quite a mix of demo's. If you're looking for a nonstop party, you won't be happy. No ice skating or rock climbing either. If you want to spa, relax and eat reasonably well and enjoy some sedate bars then you'll enjoy!

You should be able to get the onboard credit for your RCL stock.

We have been able to get price reductions by calling. If you booked through a TA you will have to have them call.
