Jeano222 Posted September 25, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 25, 2008 All are non-stop flights on American with good times in January 2009. Why such a huge difference???
BlueHerons Posted September 25, 2008 #2 Share Posted September 25, 2008 All are non-stop flights on American with good times in January 2009. Why such a huge difference??? A million things. You dates, time of day, day of the week, events going on in FLL versus Miami, rental car availability, number of flights in and out of both airports from DFW in that time slot. wrp96 Posted September 25, 2008 #3 Share Posted September 25, 2008 There are less options and less competition into Ft. Lauderdale but many people flying just to South Florida want to fly to FLL for convenience sake. More people competing for less seats means higher prices. lizbeth Posted September 25, 2008 #4 Share Posted September 25, 2008 Hi Jeano (and other cruise critic friends) Yes, we've also discovered that it is considerably less expensive to fly into Miami RT from DFW than it is to fly into Ft. Lauderdale. Of course, our upcoming Solstice cruise leaves from Ft. Lauderdale. We are making the best of it by choosing alternate transportation from Miami to FLL ... flying in one day early and either renting a car or booking a shuttle that will take us directly to FLL. I've discovered that "the major airline in DFW" can call all the shots to Florida because they only have non-stops. Miami is a connection for many flights to the Caribbean and South America. FLL is not. And, because FLL usually translates to "more upscale", the airline is charging much, much more. Again, it's supply & demand. Oh ... and January is high season in Florida! So, book air to Miami and choose another way to get to the FLL pier ... and you still come out ahead financially. Hope this helps with your decision-making process. Happy sailing to you ! jagoffee Posted September 25, 2008 #5 Share Posted September 25, 2008 If you check the available seats for each of your flights, it might also give you an indication of why the price is different. FLL might be much more booked at this point.
floridacruiser63 Posted September 26, 2008 #6 Share Posted September 26, 2008 All are non-stop flights on American with good times in January 2009. Why such a huge difference??? American Airlines has a very large hub at MIA. Most of their flights to Florida and from Florida come through MIA. It is their "GATE TO THE AMERICAS". Jeano222 Posted September 26, 2008 Author #7 Share Posted September 26, 2008 Gotcha, now I understand. I did book the DFW/MIA flights and arranging transportation to Port Everglades.
jillyfish Posted September 27, 2008 #8 Share Posted September 27, 2008 What dates are you flying? I just did the flexible dates option on AA for January and got $271 DFW to FLL and $291 for DFW to MIA
