CL-JW Posted October 7, 2008 Author #51 Share Posted October 7, 2008 We drove by on Saturday morning and ran into some crew members. The said that she will be ready on the 11th (our cruise) and wanted to make sure we knew to go to Pier 35, not 70. Communication was limited, so some of the questions we asked were not understood. However, we left with a round of "It'll be our pleasure to serve you and look forward to seeing you on the 11th" and lots of waves goodbye. I think they are ready for the passengers now :D Hope you come back with a full report of how she looks after your cruise. We're envious - we don't cruise until November. Hope you have a great time!! luckee1 Posted October 9, 2008 #52 Share Posted October 9, 2008 I read somewhere that they were unable to make all the changes they had planned due to employee problems. Does anyone know what they were able to accomplish?

Hope you have a great time!! I am planning to take some photos when we get on and then link them to a Picassa web album. Notice I said - planning :D We will be talking to LARGIN before we sail, so if I fail at posting I am hoping he will come on here and post what we've told him. Thanks for the good wishes, Dona

bdjam Posted October 9, 2008 #56 Share Posted October 9, 2008 I read somewhere that they were unable to make all the changes they had planned due to employee problems. Does anyone know what they were able to accomplish? From what I understand, the "employee" problems were actually issues with US Customs - the work was to be done by foreign workers and Customs wouldn't issue visas so they could come into the country. Don't get me started. The work that was not accomplished was the moving of the Casino from deck 6 to deck 7, the moving of Crown Grill from deck 7 to deck 6 and the installation of the "window" suites on deck 6. Everything else that was planned is to be completed.

I am getting on board this Saturday, right out of dry dock (her, not me) and want to know what to look for. Thanks. David
skellis Posted October 9, 2008 #58 Share Posted October 9, 2008 I just got back from SF and spent some time with a friend whois a crew member on the Star. The are supposed to refloat the ship tonight and do some sea trials. The casino is up and running, the boards are off the railings, and plasma TVs, carpets and other renovations are almost done, but one of the dining rooms is being used for the contractors to saw and build stuff(who are being fed all their meals in another dining room by the wait staff). All crew members had to be on board by 11:00 tonight. MUTS is behind schedule because they started the installation in Seattle and part of it blew off the ship between there and SF. They say that they will be more than ready for the next cruise. I will try to post some pictures from different angles.
dchip Posted October 9, 2008 #59 Share Posted October 9, 2008 this afternoon and we were told by the folks in Mission Rock Restaurant that she was going into the water at 2pm. We enjoyed lunch and a Bloody Mary...or two but at 4:30pm, she still wasn't ready for the water. We would have loved to have been there for that experience. There were a couple of other couples with us out on the deck, talking ships and cruises. It was a lovely way to spend a beautiful afternoon in San Francisco. MUTS still has scaffolding everywhere and there were three or four men on top of it the whole time we were there. They were also moving the tenders around with a crane but we couldn't figure out where they were going  I took some photos but nothing that you haven't seen already :D Cheers, Denise
crusdiva Posted October 9, 2008 #60 Share Posted October 9, 2008 As of 6 am here in Boston the Star webcam had a clear view aft. MUTS has arrived.

I would be interested to hear verification one way or another from anyone who takes the October 11 cruise whether the Crown Grill was moved to Deck 6 and the Casino to Deck 7. Thanks. sultan_sfo Posted October 9, 2008 #62 Share Posted October 9, 2008 I was surprised to find when I went there at 1pm today (Thursday) that the Star had vanished. It is no longer in the SF Bay. The web cam shows it in the sea. I think they are doing post drydock trials.
