Thhe Captains that alternate on that ship are Captain Johnny and Captain Per. Both are highly visible, very personable and friendly. They wander around the ship, interacting with the passengers, answering questions, etc. They make an appearance at the shows, and are very entertaining, with sharp senses of humor.

You can check the Current Captains thread to find out which one is the Captain now and when his rotation started. Captains are generally on a 10 weeks on, 10 weeks off rotation. However, because the ship is doing the 46 day repositioning cruise in January, this cycle may be affected, and may not fall into the regular pattern.

The "List of CD's" thread says that Ken Rush should be the CD in March.

Captain Johnny left the Mariner permanently to assume command of the Allure of the Seas. This is the 2nd Oasis type ship now under construction in Finland. Good riddance. A big excess of EGO not appreciated by experienced cruisers.

Ken Rush will only be the Cruise Director for the 2 "Freebies" on Feb 19 and Feb 20-21 as well as the first Mexican Riviera cruise on 2-22-09. Like Captain Johnny, it's a blessing this joker will only be around for the politicking in getting the Mariner going in it's new home port of LA. His position as Sr. CD has gone to his head. The staff claims he has a huge mirror on his desk and the time spent gazing at himself is evident by the quality of his work output. His juvenile behavior on stage sends a lot of us to bed early. He really needs to stay in Miami at the home office.

Not quite yet. Captain Johnny is still on Mariner, now halfway between Cabo San Lucas and San Pedro. He will be Master for the next 2 short pre-inaugural cruises. Captain Per takes over Mariner on Feb 22. Captain Johnny will come back to Mariner after his 10 weeks off for one more stint as Master. Then he leaves for Allure.

We have sailed with both Captain Johnny and Captain Per - while both are a lot of fun, we definitely prefer Captain Johnny. We enjoyed waking up to, "Good morning, good morning, good morning! This is Captain Johnny speaking from the bridge!" and his corny jokes.

Captain Johnny told us this past week that he will be leaving the Mariner for the Allure after completing the current 10 week rotation he is on. After a break, he will be heading to Turku, Finland.
