Hi, I'm new!

I have been browsing for a couple of months now but this is my first post as we have actually taken the plunge and booked our first ever cruise this weekend!

I am hoping that there will be some other folk here who will be on the same voyage as us and a lot of seasoned cruisers who can guide us through all those 'first timer' questions!

My name is Diane by the way, I am 46, my husband is Anthony and he is 48. We will be celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary next year and decided to book this cruise as the honeymoon we never got to share when we married in 1994! Our first holiday without kids in tow! We are hoping to renew our wedding vows on board Ventura during the cruise and are looking forward to the whole cruising experience very much.

I have already found plenty of answers to questions using your search facility but I am sure there will be plenty more I need to ask in the coming months, in the meantime I hope to be making some new friends here!

Kind Regards :)

Diane

Not to dissuade you from this board in any way - but have you tried the boards specific to your cruise line and/or a roll call thread for your spcific sailing?

I have already posted in Roll Call but I think its probably a little early yet as nobody seems to be posting much about cruises a year off....or am I just a tad over excited!!? :o

I shall post in the P&O section as well, thank you for pointing this out to me...

Welcome! Consider yourself warned...you're about to become addicted to a whole new way of vacationing :D !

Anticipation is at least half the fun. I hope you involve your husband in the planning process, so he can enjoy it too. (Unless he's one of those guys who just likes to show up  everything arranged).

You will have fun surfing these boards. Enjoy! And I hope the roll call picks up someone for you to chat with!

Welcome to the Cruise Critic Boards. You may find they can be pretty addictive.

You don't mention what cruise line or ship you have booked but I would encourage you to become active on your rollcall and on the cruise line's board as that is one of the best places for information.

Depending on what ports you are going to you can also check out information on your ports in the port of call boards. Again you generally can get lots of info on what to do when the ship is docked.

We did our first cruise in 1997 and didn't find the boards until a couple of years after. I sure wish I had found them earlier.

Have a great next cruise and don't be afraid to ask a lot of questions. That is what we are all here for to share our knowledge and opinions on cruising and travel.

Thank you for the warm welcome :)

We have booked a transatlantic cruise on P&O Ventura, sailing on 23rd October 2009 to the Caribbean.

At the moment my main concerns seem to be about 'getting it right' with what to wear, my husband's main concern seems to be how much food he will be able to eat!

I am looking forward to checking out all the post-christmas sales this year so that I can start planning my cruise wardrobe :D

You are going to have a wonderful year preparing for your cruise! A new wardrobe may not be needed, but it sure is fun!:D Great plan to shop post-Christmas! Keep your husband focused on his food and you can do all the shopping you wish! :) Plan a little celebration on the 23rd of each month until your cruise and it will make the months go even quicker.;)

I love this idea....thank you! :D

Glad you liked the idea!:) We tried to do something related to our cruise each month. A few ideas were to really dress up and go out to dinner, make Miami Vice drinks and enjoy them, in July we sat outside with our chairs around the sandbox with our feet in the sand with Caribbean music playing enjoying daquiri's, go to the casino one month. We live where its cold in the winter but one can turn the heat up high for an hour and pull lounge chairs inside and put your swimming suits on pretend you're in warm weather. Make a multi coarse meal like you will have in the dining room each evening. Just a few ideas and I'm sure you can come up with lots more of your own!:D
