Bump or Aft on Radiance class ship?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm taking my mom on a cruise in 2006. My TA is holding two cabins for me -- 7600 (middle of the bump) or 9260 (center of aft). Is aft a long way to walk, and if so, is it worth it, or is the hump just as nice? Mom is older and does sometimes tire easily, but I'd also love to be able to have a balcony where we have room to sit on lounge chairs.

Decisions, decisions :) Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

Esther

In my opinion you can't go wrong with either. I am Genrally an aft fan and would choose and aft room any day. However with RCCL the hump rooms are my favorite. We love being so centrally located and the rooms are nice on the hump. We had plenty of room on the balcony to sit and have breakfast in the morning, it was really nice. I guess I am not helping with the decision, just wanted to through out there that I personally don't think you would be disappointed with either room :)

We love those aft cabins as well...for us its a no brainer...but for an elderly person it really is a hike. Had my Mom and Dad on Radiance in a hump cabin. The two times they visited us in our aft they loved the view and the large balcony but said over and over they were glad not to have to make the long walk to their cabin that we did. If your Mom is spry, it might not make a difference...but for my folks...midships was the best choice.

I had an aft cabin for the first time this past May on the Diamond Princess and am hooked on this location now. I'm booked next May on the Radiance in an aft Grand Suite!

I absolutely love the aft, but I also don't mind the longer walks to the elevators. Considering your elderly parent may not like the walk, you may want to take the mid "bump" location.

If you ever have an opportunity to try an aft, I think you'll love it. The view of the wake as you sail is very, very nice. ;-)

We had cabin # 7604 on the Radiance. I would book that room again in a heartbeat. We have said so many times since we've been back, how lucky we were to have got that close to so many different things. The stairs and elevators are close but not so close you can hear people. Very quiet rooms.

The dining room, Seattle's Best Coffee, Schooner Bar, Casino, etc., were all very accessible from our location.

Are the D1 hump balconies bigger than the regular D1 balconies?
From what we seen on the Serenade, they are all about the same size, but we were in an E1. They do look bigger on the layout but we found them to be about the same "universal size". There is one picture that we took from our balcony in our "picture" link, it may help you better. Hope this helps...

The bump cabins have a large balcony, and although the aft view is unbeatable, if you are at ALL concerned about your mom and the walk, Take the hump cabin. You are close to everything. You won't regret it.

I picked the bump cabin for this very reason!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all your great responses. I booked the bump because it's centrally located and my mom has some difficulty walking long distances...when I thought of evenings going from fore theaters to our aft balcony, I realized it was best to stay as close to the middle as possible. I can't imagine that we'll be disappointed -- it's a CRUISE! On the JEWEL! In the CARIBBEAN! In FEBRUARY! :)

As an aside, I'm booked in an aft JS on Brilliance with DH and we're really excited about that too!

Cheers,

Esther

Thank you for the information on the hump cabins.I kept watching and one opened up for our January Radiance cruise and they let me switch! :D I like to be near the middle of the ship because I am very prone to motion sickness.
