Question about casino on the Quest

First time on the Quest . I was wondering if it is cash only or if you can charge play to your stateroom account like the other lines??

Thanks

22 days and counting!!!

Athens to Singapore:D

Hi Cruisey !

You can go to the Casino and get Cash or Chips. This will be charged to your shipboard account, but there is a 3% surcharge for this.

If you are asking if you can put your Room card in a slot machine, and have the charges added directly to your account (like Princess has), when I was on Quest, you could not do this. I am sure it will happen at some point.

I hope this answers your questions. Have a wonderful time on Quest !

Andy,

Say it isn't so about the 3% service fee for funds withdrawn from your Seapass acount in the casino!!!!!

I must have missed this bit of news. Have never had a fee charged on X or RCL, and that was last fall.

Thanks,

Tim

Hi Tim !

I wish I could say it isn't so, but it is. Royal Caribbean made the change back in April. I'm fairly certain it's being done on Azamara (though I havent sailed on AZ since the change). I know for a fact, it is being charged on Celebrity and Royal Caribbean.

I wish they would reconsider the surcharge, but as it is probably a good source of revenue & profits, it's not likely at all.

Since they are charging a 3% fee to gamble on the ship, I have decided to cancel the excursions that I prebooked on the internet. That way I'll use my onboard credit first for excursions and won't be charged to access my money. We have always been able to use the money without a fee. We probably won't gamble on this trip.

Well, I tried to cancel, but it is too late. I'll know better than to book excursions on the internet next time.

Andy,

The whole idea of paying the 3% fee in the casino is a charge by the casino vendors, not AZ directly, I believe. Funny thing is this, it will only hurt the casino in the long run. People, like myself, used to draw money out several times on a cruise, as sort of a whim. But being faced with a 3% loss right off the bat, I know I'll reconsider where and how to spend my money on board. Not a smart move, in my opinion. Bad enough to lose in a casino, but to pay a 3% fee to do so is another matter.

Hi Tim !

I completely understand how you feel. The 3% surcharge annoys me a bit as well, but I do not expect it to go away. However, I have some good news.

Here is a fairly unknown Tip: There is a way to avoid the 3% surcharge. Before you sail, You can purchase Casino Credits from Azamara. They are sold in $25.00 increments. When you board the ship, the certificates will be delivered to your Stateroom. You exchange them at the Casino for Chips, with no surcharge.

They also have 25.00 vouchers for the Bar, and Shipboard Credits. You can call Azamara's Special Services Department at 800-242-6374, Option 1, to get additional information, and make purchases.

I hope you find this helpful. Enjoy your Cruise !

Did you check with your TA and ask her/him to cancel?

Hi, my name is Cindy. I just booked a last minute cruise on the Athens to Singapore journey and am very excited. I called Azamara Cust Svc and they profusely claim that there is NOT a 3% surcharge for purchasing casino credits. Funny eh?

There is only a 3% surcharge if you are use your seapass (charge to your account) instead of using cash. The casino has no charge if you use cash. Many of the cruise lines charge the 3% when you use your seapass in lieu of cash- I know for certain that Carnival charges. Bring money- it's hard enough to loose in the casino without the 3% charge tacked on.

We were on Journey in September and the casino did charge 3% for cash charged to your shipboard account. We took our kids and grandkids on a three nighter, from Miami, on Norwegian Sky recently. On NCL there is no charge and you can draw as much as $2,000 a day, more with prior credit approval. I spoke with one of the dealers about this. I don't know if this is accurate but he said that NCL operates their own casinos and that the lines that charge the 3% fees do not. Another issue that may or may not bear on this.....before the advent of the 3% fee many cruisers would draw down casino cash, never gamble, and use the cash to pay their shipboard account to American Express simply to get Frequent Flyer miles.
