Glory Delayed into port on 11/1?

I just got a voicemail from Carnival saying the Glory (which we are sailing tomorrow) will be delayed coming in to port due to a medical emergency and they asked that we not come to port until 5:30pm.

Anyone else get this message or know of any more details on the situation?

Thanks.

Does anyone know anything more about this? My parents are at the same port right now waiting to board the Disney Magic and people are saying the Carnival Glory was diverted to an unplanned island in order to helicopter lift someone to a hospital. Just wondering what happened and if the person might be ok?

We won't know anything until the ship gets back in and someone posts. We're sitting at the Radisson right now with late check out and plan on hanging here until late afternoon. Ship is now due in at 3, but they won't start boarding til 5:30 or later. We'll go check in around 4:30 and sit and wait to board. We've been told that dinner will be open seating and each person is getting a $15 obc.

From my understanding from calling Carnival, the Glory was going to be delayed due to an injury onboard and the person having to be transported from the ship. The person I spoke with asked that no one get to Pt. Canaveral until 5:30 pm at the earliest. They did not go into specifics as to the injury or person.

the medical emergency was NOT for a passenger. Although many passengers fell due to the bucking of the ship due to rain and wind, NO passengers were severly injured or taken ill.

The Medical Emergency was for a CREW member who had a ruptured appendix. We were informed on Friday that she was in stable condition. What we know is she was doing well, then bent over double with a stomach cramp. The ships doctor stated that she needed emergency surgery, and that is when we were diverted to the outer islands of Purto Rico (sp) for her to be medivaced to San Juan for surgery.

we arrived in port at 3:45 pm. We begin disembarkment about 4:15. We ourselves had a high number, so we were late to disembark. About 5:40, through customs, to our vehicle with our luggage and out of the port by 6:20pm.

I know some were upset due to the fact that we had an 8 hour delay in our return, but honestly, I really did not mind. It was an extra day at sea in which there were still plenty of activities and and food avaiable.

Even the Casino was left open till about 2:30 as were the shops. Then it was like a ghost ship for entertainment.

Speaking of ghost ship. On Halloween, we were on the lido deck, and the wind was whistling and howling over the deck. The seas were so rough that the pool water was splashing nearly 8 feet in the air soaking the lido deck. By morning when the seas calmed, the pool had lost nearly half it's water. I don't know why they did not just drain it.

We just returned from the Glory yesterday and we were delayed getting into port due to a medical emergency. On Friday morning, the captain announced that a crew member had an urgent medical emergency and the ship had turned course towards Puerto Rico where the closest medical facilities were located. We had hit a cold front so the water was rough and we were cruising at a pretty good clip to get her there. That evening the captain made another announcement that a Coast Guard helicopter would be arriving to airlift the crew member to PR. When we got out to the Lido Deck after dinner, the helicopter was there and lifting her up in a basket. It was amazing to watch as it was so windy yet the Coast Guard did a fabulous job! We were so glad they were able to get her off the ship and to the needed medical facilities. I have to say we were very impressed how well it was all handled. Carnival handled the situation in a very professional and caring manner and the passengers seemed to put aside any logistical difficulties the delay incurred and place priority on the crew member's life. Everyone seemed elated when the captain announced on Friday that he received word that her medical condition was stable!

It was Thursday around 2 pm when the captain announced our side trip. How could you see the helicopter when it arrived at 6:45 pm Thursday which was the middle of dinner unless you did not do the main dining room. AND they requested NO PASSENGERS BE ON DECK WHEN THE HELICOPTER ARRIVED, AND NO PHOTOS, BECAUSE YOU WOULD BE TURNED IN.

I don't mean to sound rude, but you need to get your facts straight. It WAS friday morning when Butch announced that the girl was in stable condition after her emergency surgery. By then we were already 8 hours behind schedule.

What difference does it make...as long as the crew member is okay, I think that is the main thing. I'm getting a little tired of reading these boards lately. Seems that people are a little "hot under the collar". Maybe the economy or the upcoming election or whatever has people a little snippy.

well,,,I'm glad she's ok,,,nothing else is important,,,,Holly

i am sorry i made it sound that i was hot under the collar. But facts need to be straight when it comes to a medical condition.

The actual rummors at first was heart attack, she fell and busted her head open, and other things. we did not really learn what it was till Saturday afternoon on our way back into port.

Wow Penny/FLlady61, you sure replied in a pretty nasty manner. We must have been posting our original replies at about the same time. Since no one had replied from our sailing, I just posted a quick response to let people know what the cause of the delay was and how impressed I was with the handling of it.

I guess I better make sure I keep a stopwatch with me to have exact times whenever I post about anything. I have never posted in a nasty tone prior to this but I can't believe what an ugly attitude and accusatory tone you have. I now see why people were making such nasty comments about the roll call thread you had.

To set a couple of facts straight, we ate in the Red Sail that evening and walked out onto the Lido Deck to get to our cabin. We had no idea the helicopter was out performing the airlift at that time. There were lots of people out there, along with Carnival staff, and no one was in the way as she was being airlifted from the aft of the ship. Butch had requested that no one use flash photography as it could hinder the helicopter pilot's vision. I loved your comment about ... "Otherwise you'd be turned in." What were they going to do, send you to the Captain's Bridge to sit in the corner?

As to "But facts need to be straight about a medical condition.", I don't believe I mentioned anything about what her medical condition was.

It's a shame you feel the need to be so negative. I guess that's how some people choose to live their lives.

My intent was to post a positive reply to explain the reason for our delay and the general concern we saw from fellow passengers in regards to the health of a crew member.
