Richjoxyz Posted November 4, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 4, 2008 We sail on the Galaxy from San Juan on December 29th returning on Jan 9th. This is an 11-night cruise the week before and after New Years. Any idea if we will have a large quantity of kids? We're hoping that school starts before the 9th, reducing the normal holiday kid count. Are we dreaming?
pcur Posted November 4, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 4, 2008 I think you are correct. Most schools will start on 1/5/09. Also, an 11 day Southern Caribbean cruise is expensive, and those attract fewer families.
YOW Posted November 4, 2008 #3 Share Posted November 4, 2008 Interesting question. I'm going to post this on the San Juan board and hopefully we'll have an answer. Sometimes a wild card springs from the deck. We took an 11-night sailing out of Galveston for New Years 2005, straddling roughly the same period. There were a few kids from the US & Canada; many families, however, had come in from Monterrey and Mexico City, and some of the parents showed little if any interest in monitoring their children's behaviour. We'd miscalculated and not taken into account the school calendar in Mexico, and unfortunately some unruly children (not a cultural thing, there were proportionately as many bad apples from other nationalities) made for crew and pax headaches. YOW Posted November 4, 2008 #4 Share Posted November 4, 2008 Seems it might have been wishful thinking, Richard. Schools in PR let out on December 19, and don't reconvene until January 13. Having said that, it's out of our hands -- Celebrity does have a good youth program, and we've been on plenty of cruises with well-behaved children, so we'll hope for the best and not let it become a detraction from enjoying our cruise. :)
