help -snorkelling in vila or lifou

we are in vila and Lifou soon can you tell me the best places to snorkel close to the ship in both places if you can or best private tour to go on

The best place for snorkling at Lifou is 15-20 min. walk from where the tender docks.

 

My best advice to you is to go to the shore and island talks that they have on board the ship, as a lot of good tips are given about each island/port, that is not P&O tour talk.:)

 

At Vila we went to Hidaway Island and snorkled there. There is a small cost to use the island but it is worth it. We got a cabbie to take us the the little beach opposite the island and tinny type of ferry took us over. We arranaged for the cabbie to pick us up at a certain time for the return journey. One tip....... Do not pay the cabbie untill the return journey. :eek:

 

Hopefully someone else will be able to give more advice on snorkling at Vila.

I agree with Marg Snorkelling at hideaway-Vila is worth the travel! You will have a great experience there.

Look up hideaway island on the net- they have their own website with lots of pics for you to see.

I think the best place to snorkel in Lifou is called Jinek Bay. It's years since i've been but I remember it being some of the best snorkelling i've done! Can't wait to go again in January :D

Jinek Bay was a nice spot.

 

You walk up 100m from the pier past a dirt track (that we walked for 5 mins before finding a fence) then left along the roadway for approx 15 mins. You then come to a sign - right to Jinek Bay ( a short walk), or straight ahead up some stairs to the church.
