Tips on bring booze onboard

Thanks again Parrothead...definately worth purchasing it onboard. Even with the consumption fee and the exchange rate I have to pay (Canadian Here!!) It is still the same price that I would pay for it in Canada without the hassel of traveling with a Bailey's bottle!!

Thanks again for all the info.

YIKES. icon_eek.gif I didnt think about this. I am on the galaxy out of Baltimore next. Bars will be open, but I'm not sure about the shops and casino. .....could it really take that long to get out of the bay? ....maybe the "water" in the bay, is international......... icon_wink.gif

Just off the Rhapsody on Sunday, on first night when shops open, 9.50 fee for any amount of bottles to take to your state room, used the glasses from the room, and made drinks to shows and on deck, soda in cabin is 1.50, milk and cream, softserve to use in drinks from windjammers (no extra fee) but it does depend on what you like to drink. Soda was also from posts no problem to bring on, few bottles of booze (in a bag) but not in boxes, they take them till last day. RCCI is very easy going, just go with the flow.

The entire Chesapeake Bay is local waters to the US. International waters do not start until 3 mile out. However, I have never been on a cruise when they weren't serving drinks before they left port. However the ships store does not open until after the ship sets sail

I too like to bring my own wine on board. I pack it in the suitcase and send it on. I have also packed it in a carry on, which I carry on the ship and the only thing ANYONE has ever said, is, what cabin are you in?? We will be there for the party. And this is RCCL staff. We also have wine with dinner, but the last time I checked, their wine list was the pits! It was something like $45.00 for Robert Mondavi??? Last time we were on RCCL we had nice wines like ZD for less than that. I don't mind paying for two bottles of wine at dinner (there will be five of us) if they had a decent selection like Celebrity. But with the last one I saw, I think I'll bring my own!

icon_biggrin.gif My husband and I like California Chardonny and always bring 1 carryon bag with several bottles bubble wrapped. Never had a problem. We always buy a several bottles in the dining room at diner. We buy drinks in the bars, also.

I'm sure the cruise line gets a good share of our money and the few bottles we bring on broad do not make a big difference. It just means we can have a drink in our room whenever we want. And yes we like to drink on vacation but we don't drink enough to miss any of the vacation.

1. Rules are meant to be followed, not broken. icon_razz.gif

2. I'm glad I don't drink "hard" liquor except for the ones that come in fufu drinks--but I can take the fufu drinks without the alcohol, except for the margaritas--so I don't have to worry about taking or buying that. icon_cool.gif

3. I do like a glass or wine or champagne once in a great while and a little more often on New Year's and on a cruise. I think $45 for Mondavi is way too excessive. icon_redface.gif

4. I'm considering bringing a bottle of wine onboard (for in-room use on special night) with my soda. If they take it while boarding, fine, but if they let me bring it on, better. I'm not going to hide it or "smuggle" it on. From reading several threads on this subject, it sound like RCCL isn't really enforcing their "rule." To me, this is more a "disclaimer" than a "rule" so I don't know if statement #1 applies here. icon_eek.gif

5. Does anyone know if they sell white zinfadel in the shop and how much? icon_confused.gif

6. No matter the outcome, you'll be seeing me toasting with one of RCCL's drinks at sailaway! icon_cool.gif

Peace, love, happiness, and bon voyage!!!

Parrothead8, you can get a good price on float bags at Sierra trading Post online, they sell a lot of seconds and factory overruns from outdoor clothing and equipment manufacturers. they are generally a hard rubbery nylon that you close by rolling down the top and snapping shut. We use them when we go floating on our wild rivers here, and I use them to keep my gear dry when I go offshore fishing or scuba diving. They are also great for the beach to keep sand and water off your clothes. In fact they are a really handy thing to have for a host of applications. They are also sold at all Bass Pro stores, Galyans, REI, etc.

The on board shops have a pathetic selection of wine, ranging from none to a tiny amount and all are much more expensive than the local wine store. While hard liquor on board is not a bad deal, wine is a bad deal.

For someone like myself who uses booze as a means to escape the reality of life, and to make myself and fellow passengers around me more attractive, the idea of buying every drink is just not economically feasible. Being a college student my budget for say vodka is about $5 a ltr. In the states I can purchase such top shelf products as 5 o'clock vodka, and/or the SS Pierce. For beer, I like to stick with Natty Light running about $.50 a can. Smuggling is the only way I can do this, w/o being broke and hitting on the older middle aged women for free drinks.

I wonder if these "Rule follower" bring their own clothes on board since the shops sell clothing. What about jewelry? You know you can buy that on board too. Oh yeah, what if you have a water drinking family. Should we pop the $3.00 bottles in our stateroom every time we're thirsty? What about coffee drinkers that have to have their fix as soon as they wake. We all know the room service rarely gets to your stateroom when you prefer. Oh yes, and it must be prohibited to give your spouse a massage as that is offered for a "small fee" on the ship.

It's all bout money. Some us fell that if you can avoid the Cruise line sticking it to you, than do so. We feel that after paying $1000-$3000 for a vacation that we can darn well bring anything we want. We are the same people who SMUGGLE in our own coke and candy to the movie theatre. Why spend $30 plus time two for cokes when I can buy a case for $7, same for water, same for beer. Oh yah, I guess I better stop booking shore excursions though private companies since I can do that through the ship for a mush higher cost and less service.

Last year when we took the Splendour out of Galveston, we were able to buy drinks before we sailed but once underway every bar was closed until we reached international waters (12 miles). Pretty sure it was a goofy Texas law but found the lack of a drink in hand as we pulled away down right mean. Has this changed? It may have been because it was the maiden voyage out of Galveston and the vessel did not have it permits yet.

Wow, where do I start:

jagmanss1 - I'll buy you a drink anytime, it would be my pleasure. We are sailing on the Adventure a couple months after you.....I'd make the standard comment and ask you to not drink all the booze.....but of course, you'll be bringing your own!! By the way, it looks like this thread headed into this more colorfull discussion when YOU warned the original poster that there might be some of us with a moral objection.

ssrrmm00 - LOL!!! I spent my college days on Natty Lee's, or Schaeffer Light!! Also, Osco Drug Stores used to sell their own brand of hard liquors...dirt cheap, but a little rough on the system!!

You are right about one thing, it is all about money. Here's my argument; if you buy a car, but can't afford gas or insurance then you really can't afford the car. If you pay for a cruise but then can't afford drinks or any of the extras, then you really can't afford the cruise. Or, go on the cruise and don't participate in anything that costs extra....it's your choice.

Bottom Line - Smuggle, don't smuggle...we are all going to make our own choice. But please don't try to rationalize away the fact that this is clearly stated rule that you choose to break.

Hey, all I said was rules were meant to be followed, not broken. That being said, I didn't say I always follow all the rules, after all, I am only human and not God.

Lastly, RCCL doesn't have a rule saying we can't bring perfume, clothes, etc. on board--only alcohol.

Have a nice day!
