Communication Onboard--Any Suggestions on Two-Way Radios to Purchase?

We are interested in purchasing a pair of two-way radios/walkie-talkies for when we cruise by ourselves or with our grandchildren or even family and friends. We have heard that many sets do not work on cruise ships due to the steel walls, etc. Was wondering if you had any suggestions on models that have a great success rate being used on cruise ships. Would be very interested in your manufacturer, model number and approximate cost range. Any other information would be greatly appreciated. Our next cruise is coming up in December, so time is of the essence. Thank you so much!

No matter what you purchase they will be annoying to your fellow pax who are enjoying the peace and quiet of their cruise. Hope you think twice about this.

I also agree.

This is a vacation......

Plus - those cheap FRS radios can have poor reception. If you need to keep tabs on your family that badly and instantly...then perhaps yall should talk a few things out....

We brought them...and never even took them out of the suitcase. We had no trouble keeping up with our two teens.

We juse used post-it notes on the mirror to let them know where they could find us and they did the same. It actually was much easier than toting around a radio.

We bought them for our family cruise and used them quite successfully. The Motorola Talkabout 9500s worked much better on board the ship than the 8500s. I think they were $79 per set. The 8500s cost less, but didn't work as well. We used the security code and never heard any other conversations. We found them to be a tremendous convenience and were very careful to be considerate of other guests.

we use marker boards with magnets on the back and hang on outside of door. my teen have to check in and write where they are going and they know where mom and dad plans on going. Also use for notes- ie - be in room by midnight!

Wow, you are the kind of family we would like to have a cabin next to. Good family communication and good on you!:):):)
