short dresses for formal night?

I'm doing a knee-length one night and either a midcalf or flowy pants for the other.

I usually wear a long one (like the new maxi dresses that are kind of bare on top...not the old bridesmaid type) and a short one that is sparkly, sequined or (gasp) shorter....and i'm oooooollllllddddd. (smile) i think any of the jewel toned or black cocktail dresses are perfect for the newer, slightly less casual formal nights. Keep them kind of bare and sexy, no hose, if you can help it.....and you are comfy, not packing a ton of stuff and stunning!
