Fuel Charge Reimbursed as Onboard Credit

Were you planning on eliminating the service charge on this cruise? Because that'll take care of your onboard credit, so no refund needed.

Why is everyone so upset about getting a REFUND? I don't GET IT....

I'm not upset.....I'm happy....:D. I was going with or without the refund, this is just icing on the cake....:p

I hope that those of you who are upset about not getting a credit on your upcoming cruise are going to be able to relax enough to enjoy the cruise. I am one of the lucky ones that I am getting it - and I might feel a bit disappointed if my cruise missed it by a couple of days.

but I am going on a cruise... during a time when I could be so broke that I can't pay for groceries. Yes - having the extra cash would be nice - but I'd be looking forward to it whether I had the shipboard credit coming to me or not.

No I'm still going on my cruise and I'll have fun but when I return from my cruise I will make it a point to write Carnivals CEO Gerry Cahill and give him my two cents. He may not want it but he's going to get it. This whole surcharge was handled horribly all the way around. First it was 25 trading days, then out the window that went and then its pax sailing after Dec.17th. Putting me in the middle and out my 210.00.

I am happy...but those who have ample OBC to more than cover tips..this is just an added OBC. That being said...there are ways to get your OBC back in cash anyways.

Oh well....I did include the snippet from the original press release.

For those of you that missed it only by a few days it is very unfortunate and does not seem right.

Anyways...how many drinks can one get with 4 surcharge refunds lol

I have a lot of OBC because we are a family of 5 and we have a 600.00 OBC already plus 280.00 for te fuel supplement so I was hoping for a refund of the fuel supplement as they had originally promised. Also, I have prepaid my tips.

What are the ways to get your OBC back in cash?

Thanks

Yep - they complained about the charge in the first place (rightfully so for those who were already booked), then complained that the refund process was too complicated when it was rescinded, and now can't believe how many are complaining about getting it refunded!

I do feel bad for those of you who missed it by a few days but I think the poster earlier summed it up - you are able to cruise when many in this country are without jobs or struggling to pay the bills so while I'm sure I'd be disappointed as well - remember that you are blessed.

Yes, it is easy to tell others to stop complaining about not getting an OBC for the fuel surcharge when they are getting it. Why would someone leaving a couple of days later be more deserving of a refund than those of us who aren't? It's not going to ruin my cruise, but there is a matter of fairness. If they are refunding the surcharge, then they should refund to everyone. Would you complain if some at your place of work received a bonus just for working there and you didn't ?

Hey how is it that those of us in the middle get HOSED out of our fuel surcharge we paid. I missed the damn thing by .53 cents. Then we get HOSED again when Carnival says we are suspending surcharges after Dec. 17th sailings. I'm seriously not thrilled with how they've handled themselves.

Blame the oil market, not Carnival. They had to pay that $0.53 for any fuel they bought that day just like anyone else. It was within their stated policy.

To the OP, just go to the Casino and get some cash from your account. If they ask, you are going to gamble with it (slots) - Simple

Hey Princessa. I too have 5 and up to $790.00 of OBC (including the $280 for fuel) already. I was told before that the OBC was non-refundable and that I could not get a check. I called Carnival 2nite and the CVS told me that the fuel supplement OBC was also non-refundable?! I also have paid gratuities in advance and booking excursions outside of the ship! Use it or lose it maybe!? I'm sure I can spend all of it but I'd like some cash back! LOL :)

We received a $10 (out of $126) "refundable" onboard credit on our 10/26/08 cruise and a $20 (out of $100) "refundable" onboard credit on our 11/29/08 cruise. There were for a partial fuel surcharge credit.

We had other "non-refundable" credits for price drops and stockholder credit.

We would have gotten cash (actually a check) back on the fuel surcharge credit if we hadn't racked up more expenses than credits.

I would imagine they would handle the full fuel surcharge onboard credits the same way (refundable).

On our Conquest cruise at the end of October we all received a $5pp obc. We never asked what it was for.

We had the same thing! However, we were doing a B2B, and it didn't appear on the 2nd leg (1st leg sailed 10/30, 2nd 11/3), so we just assumed it was for our late arrival in Cozumel.

What are the ways to get your OBC back in cash?

Thanks

Go to a slot machine in the casino. Draw money from your S&S account. You're allowed to do up to $200 at a time. Once the machine is funded with the money, immediately transfer the money to your player's bank (completely separate from your S&S account). When you're ready, take your S&S card to the cashier and tell them you'd like to cash out your bank. Cash in hand. :)

Only slot machines, though. If you use it at the tables, you'll get hit with the 3% surcharge.

And on that note, I'm going to bed. Work week isn't over yet. :(

My final due date isn't until Dec. 16th, but I paid in full already. Will I receive an on board credit or will they credit my card?

On Board Credit because you are in the "Final Payment Period" (because you paid, not because of the date).

(to others) They aren't trying to short change anyone; but are just trying to find the most efficient way to reimburse everyone. If you already paid, they don't want to go back through the credit card companies and give you credit that way and they don't want to issue and mail several thousand checks to people. This way, they can use their computers to credit everyone who fits certain criteria the appropriate amounts with just a few keystrokes.

Mark, I find it funny that Carnival never told us what the $10 obc was for.

Do you have the copy of your invoice? It should show what you paid for a supplement.

If not, log into your reservation at the Carnival website and click "modify booking" at the bottom left of the screen. The amount you paid will be shown there as well.

If I recall correctly, it was still $9/per person/per day for the first two guests per cabin even back in August. I booked in March and it was $5. It went up shortly after that.

It is from CCL t/a has nothing to do woth ot and cannot over ride it.

You can absolutely get a refund of the supplement if you booked through a travel agent.

To the poster who inquired about this, contact your travel agent or the number on the website where you booked. They will be able to assist you further. Don't try to call Carnival, they won't 'touch' you if you have booked with a travel agent.

Does anyone know how long it will take for the credit to show up on my balance? We have a booking that has a deposit paid, an full payment isn't due until 2/10/09. I understand in my situation, Carnival will deduct the cost of the fuel charges from my balance due. Thanks for any responses.

It's said up to 3 weeks. If you want to know your balance due right now, just subtract the cost of the supplement. I imagine they're pretty busy updating invoices and whatnot. They're probably working on the sailings that are closer to the sail date at this time.

I get what you are saying and don't really think others need to give you a hard time for making a statement....I am elated they are refunding the fuel supplement, whether or not I get it will remain to be seen. Prices could very well increase again by March. I would prefer to get the credit back to my credit card just because my final payment is due the week of Christmas...but I will suck it up. If all works out it will be nice to have when I get on board to take care of my tips and other expenses.

Carnival truly is the best when taking care of their customers, I have no doubt they will continue to do what is fair.
