Local Bus/Minibus from Pier to Accra Beach?

Anyone does this lately? We've decided to visit this beach based on info from CC posters (thanks, guys!), but rather than spend $15 x 4 people via cab, we'd rather bus/mimibus for $1.50 x 4 people.

It's a fairly short trip from the maps I've been viewing. Please let us know your experiences. We'll be there in January. Thank you!

There is no bus from the pier to Accra. You would have to exit the port area and walk towards Bridgetown. After a few minutes you will see a bus station on your left where you can catch the local buses. There is no way to know how long you will need to wait for the bus, and the local buses make many stops as they go through Bridgetown.

There is no bus from the pier to Accra. ===> Correct

You would have to exit the port area and walk towards Bridgetown. ===> And then over the other side.

After a few minutes you will see a bus station on your left

where you can catch the local buses. ===> To Northern and Western locations only.

To get to Accra/Rockley by local bus

you'd need to walk past that nearby Cheapside bus station on the left as mentioned above

to the Broad Street shopping area, and beyond

until you get to the other Fairchild Street bus station that services the South-Eastern and Eastern routes.

Those of you wanting to go to West Coast destinations like Paynes Bay, Holetown/Folkestone, Mullins etc

are lucky in that the nearby Cheapside terminal handles those routes

but Accra/Rockley (and the airport, and The Crane!) are not among them, sorry!

This is why I (again) recommend getting your day started quickly and efficiently

by taking a taxi OUT to whatever beach

and then bus-ing it back to the Bridgetown/Port area when you day is winding down

since all roads lead back to (and hub out of) Bridgetown

-and you simply can't go wrong heading back in.

Seems like I remember catching a ZR years ago near the roundabout on Princess Alice Hwy

and having it take us down to Worthing.

Wouldn't that work for Accra,

or do ZRs keep the same routes as the transport busses now? ===> Purty much..

The local transport authorities

try to maintain some degree of law and order among the (wild)ZR guys

licensing them to do very specific routes

which must be displayed on the side of their vans

Every so often, they get hauled over to the side of the road by the cops

who write them a ticket for being off-route!

If memory serves me, from the fairchild bus station you take the route 11 bus .. or just ask for the south coast highway 7 bus.. and tell the driver you want to get off at the Chefette at Accra Beach. (it has been a few years but I do remember it being the route 11 bus)

but I certainly do agree with APLMAC - take a taxi to your beach destination, and then get the bus back..
