Boltonmusicman Posted December 16, 2008 #1 Share Posted December 16, 2008 We are new to cruising and will be on a Princess cruise in January. It is unclear from the brochures what drinks are offered free of charge as part of the package. Also can tea be delivered free to your cabin for example, in the morning. Can anyone tell me please. Any other tips for novices would also be appreciated.
Ken076 Posted December 16, 2008 #2 Share Posted December 16, 2008 Coffee, te and juices are included. You CAN have Room Service deliver Tea to your room, the Tea is free but you should tip at least $1 for the server (Room Service Delivery is not included in the auto-tips). ken
paul929207 Posted December 16, 2008 #3 Share Posted December 16, 2008 Coffee and tea are available and free 24/7 in Horizon Court and room service. They are also available for free in the Dining Rooms at all meals. There is a charge for sodas. I think it is $1.50 or $2/soda. You can also get a soda card for $4.25 (I think)/day/person plus 15% tip. This gets you unlimited fountain sodas in any bar or restuarant.

Tea and coffee are free everywhere except for the specialties and fresh brewed coffee at the coffee bar. For those they sell a coffee card or you can purchase individually. Soda is not free. Anywhere.
Caribbean Sunsets Posted December 16, 2008 #5 Share Posted December 16, 2008 Welcome to CC! Princess will allow you to bring one bottle of wine per person as well as water and soda. I usually arrive a day early and purchase locally. Enjoy your cruise!
dcrow72 Posted December 16, 2008 #6 Share Posted December 16, 2008 coffee, tea, iced tea are available free 24 hours a day at the Horizon court buffet or through room service. That and tap water are all the liquids included. soda is available in your room at $2 a can. You can purchase the soda card for approximately $29 for 7 day cruise and that is good for unlimited soda fountain sodas at all the bars, casino and anywhere there is a server; it does not apply for room service or the cans in your room. you can order juices in the morning only, through room service or grab some at the buffet and stock your fridge for later. If you like specialty coffees such as lattes, mochas, etc., there is a coffee bar in the Atrium that makes great specialty coffees. They offer a coffee card for $25 plus tax/tip and it is good for 15 specialty coffees/teas, and unlimited (as long as one punch remains on the card) fresh brewed coffee. Fresh brewed coffee is available at the coffee bar, casino, and some show lounges and you can use your card at any of them. If you dont have a card they will charge you $1 for a cup of coffee in those places. Any unused punches can be carried over to your next cruise. It's well worth the money if you like good coffee. The stuff served in the dining rooms, buffet, and room service is an instant type of liquid syrup mixed with hot water and although I'm not a coffee snob, I can't tolerate it. My husband will drink 4 hour old mud from the bottom of the pot and he hates it too. We each have a card that we've used on 2 cruises so far. It is transferable as there is no identifying information on the card. You can carry wine, water or soda on board with you as well. We picked up soda for the kids cabin in each port for use in their rooms as the $2 each can quickly adds up when multiplied times 3! Hope that helps; wish I had all that info the first time we sailed last year. Beware if you do get a coffee card, some servers in the casino and bars try to charge you for the coffee and you need to explain the card to them; I had to go through the speech several times on our recent cruise. Enjoy your vacation.

Dorset Cruiser Posted December 16, 2008 #8 Share Posted December 16, 2008 I believe they have also started serving free lemonade in Horizon Court. It was one of the new features brought out for the launch of Ruby Princess but I think it is being rolled out fleetwide - don't know when though. I believe you have to ask the waiters for it - no dispensing machines as on RCI and Carnival. Still it is another freebie:D

Didn't ask for it since I don't drink it, but presume someone somewhere could have. Never saw anyone drinking anything resembling lemonade. Caribbean Sunsets Posted December 16, 2008 #10 Share Posted December 16, 2008 It is available on the Ruby by request from the waitstaff in Horizon Court and Cafe Caribe. It wasn't available in the dining rooms (or at least the ATD rooms).

Purser's desk told me that room service personnel are included in the auto-tip, but it is certainly OK to tip them if you wish.
