glgolfer Posted January 11, 2009 Author #326 Share Posted January 11, 2009 Talked to Bobbie yesterday at the Lotus Lounge for "happy hour" She had a sore throat and was starting a Z-pack. Didn't see her tonight. Overflow in the Lotus is much better. Everyone has a seat and it's very comfortable.

The Big Booper Posted January 11, 2009 #329 Share Posted January 11, 2009 10 January 2009 Docked next to the Thomson Destiny yesterday that was the Song of America before. It still has the Viking Crown Lounge as it is too integral to the ship to remove. It must be weird, 1800 people on a ship and it seems empty. Why don't people hit the promenade? That is always a thorofare back and forth on these ships. Anyway, we saw the Destiny at Madiera on our Indy TA and couldn't understand why it still had the VC lounge. scapel Posted January 11, 2009 #330 Share Posted January 11, 2009 Paul, Thanks for the report on the GS. Appreciated it. I e-mailed Casa Mario in Montevideo. Let's see if they put a sign outside with a welcome on it or a scapel recommendation. It would be cool if they said Welcome Paul and Judy.

That is always a thorofare back and forth on these ships. Anyway, we saw the Destiny at Madiera on our Indy TA and couldn't understand why it still had the VC lounge. A couple of reasons besides the ship not being completely full... 1. Many of the cruisers are experienced cruises, so have been there, done that 2. Length of cruise. Don't feel like you are under pressure to get it all in today, because there is always tomorrow. I know when I took my panama canal cruise I fell into this mode. 3. People are on this cruise for the overall uniqueness of the itinerary, visiting once in a lifetime ports and sailing around the horn
KathieKata Posted January 11, 2009 #332 Share Posted January 11, 2009 Thanks for the Time info Paul. How about some pictures of you all and maybe your "Living Room"!! Sure is nice that you got that Upgrade to the GS for such a long cruise. Are you hosting any cocktail parties in your suite? :p We got 6 inches or more of snow here in Detroit/Metro suburbs yesterday (Sat Jan 10th) More coming tonight and tomorrow and FRIGID below ZERO temps coming our way. So enjoy your temps buddy!!

That is always a thorofare back and forth on these ships. Anyway, we saw the Destiny at Madiera on our Indy TA and couldn't understand why it still had the VC lounge. I have read elsewhere that the structural integrity of the ship may have dictated the decision to allow the lounge to remain. It was the first to have a lounge that went totally around the stack and that may have played a role in keeping it. When Sovereign was transferred to Pullmantur I believe it retained the VCL as well.:)

Debbie and Paul Hi Debbie and Paul.............we are glad that you are joining us on the third leg of this historic voyage. Please come on over to the Royal Caribbean Meet and Mingle roll call section............and you will find the thread entitled "Mariner of the Seas 1/4/2009 Around the Horn. There are a few of us still posting there, and if you need any help of where to stay in Santiago or anything else, we have a good (small) group that can chat. We can help get you signed up for the official Meet and Mingle onboard as well. Welcome to Cruise Critic!!:) Rick
AkSusan Posted January 11, 2009 #337 Share Posted January 11, 2009 We are at an internet cafe in Barbados, and I may time out, but just wanted to drop by and say what a wonderful time we are having so far. Ship and staff are just terrific, we are having a wonderful time with all of our friends, both old and new, and are enjoying everything we have done so far. Tomorrow begins five days at sea, which will be filled with lots of special onboard activities, along with those the roll call group has thought to do. Take care, all, we are really having the time of our lives. Karen, so good to see your postings. I was just thinking of you and Pete the other day because I had come across the pictures that you had printed out for us during our Radiance Hawaii cruise. Hard to believe that has been almost two years ago. Take good care of the Mariner. We're booked on her 4/19/09 cruise. Can't wait! Hope to sail with you and Pete again one day! Debbie and Paul Hi Debbie and Paul, and we're glad to hear from you! Several of us are not on the Mariner yet -- My husband Jim and I and some others from Cruise Critic are boarding in Rio next Monday, and as you heard from Rick, a small group will be joining the fun in Valparaiso. Many questions have been answered on the roll call thread but I don't think you'll have time to read all 12,000 plus posts before you go! It's been an education! If you have any questions, just ask and I'm sure someone will answer. We'll be looking for you on leg 3! Trish

KathieKata Posted January 12, 2009 #342 Share Posted January 12, 2009 For some dumb reason the website that shows just where the ship is and where it's going to won't let you copy the website and paste it on here. I'll try this one more time before I give up. www s e a s c a n n e r d o t c o m Anyone interested can go to the site and look for SHIPS and then find the Mariner of the Seas and click on it and then look for a line that says CURRENT POSITION. Click on that and you'll see a great clear picture of just where the ship is now and where the NEXT stop is. Look for Karte....Satellit....& ...Hybrid and you can change back and forth to see which one you like best. You can also left click your mouse and move the map around too. I tried to COPY and PASTE the website here, but it just x's out the full website. Bummer.

Sally (my sister-in-law) is on the Mariner for the entire 46 days. She sent an email to me stating this is by far THE friendliest group among all the cruises they've been on. By the warm reception I've received, I believe it! Have a great time in Rio and going around the Horn. We'll catch up with you in Valparaiso! glgolfer Posted January 12, 2009 Author #349 Share Posted January 12, 2009 11 January 2009 First of 5 days at sea. Ride getting a little bumpy with 9 to 11 foot waves. First day of poker today. Heading to the Viking Crown Lounge to see if anyone shows up. Played poker for 2 hours, I won a dollar. Casino on the way to the cabin and got a little more back. Slowly winning my money back from the casino. Formal night tonight. I’m passing for the first time. Not hungry and don’t feel like getting into a tux. Stopped in the casino again. You all know what happened. Watched Pittsburg win. Cruising southeast toward the hump of South America, heading of 126 degrees, speed 20.3 knots. It is a "terrific" site once you get there. :D Paul: Hope the SEAs CALM DOWN for you. Since I get sea-sick just at the thought of it, I feel for you. Now go and WIN your money back. Better yet...........find a different way to the your cabin and avoid the whole loss!!;)
