atimetraveler Posted August 29, 2009 #701 Share Posted August 29, 2009 They probably should have used a wink instead of the smiley, but the $4.95 comment was made sarcastically...... duh.... got it (now).
amybeth4 Posted August 30, 2009 #702 Share Posted August 30, 2009 Yes, people, the $4.95 comment I made was a joke...as in this post is SO OLD (how old is it?)...this post is SO old that the price has gone up to $4.95.
Elizanessie Posted August 30, 2009 Author #703 Share Posted August 30, 2009 Yes, people, the $4.95 comment I made was a joke...as in this post is SO OLD (how old is it?)...this post is SO old that the price has gone up to $4.95. This thread was started on Dec 31st 2008. Not everyone lives on CC like some of us...so maybe just maybe they dont know about the price increase so rather than comment on the date when I started the thread, perhaps just leave it alone ..that way it will disappear again...until someone does a search on Johnny Rockets and sees this thread and might find the info useful :D

Rare TPKeller Posted August 30, 2009 #705 Share Posted August 30, 2009 Another forum that I frequent has their software set up to query the author of a post if the last post before was older than a certain length of time. You have to click through a pop-up window that says something like "This thread has been dormant for XX months, are you sure you need to reactivate this thread, or should you post a new one instead?" I thought that was a very, very good idea! Theron
MrPete Posted August 30, 2009 #706 Share Posted August 30, 2009 I find it funny, the kinds of posts that are resurrected, that people object to. Like it's against the rules or something.

Why "unfortunate"? if posts to any thread here had to be "for a purpose" then this board would implode as there is frankly NOTHING new to comment on that hasn't been posted a hundred times and we wouldn't have members having 2 or 3 or even 15 thousand posts.....what would they do with themselves? I too wonder why so many here have a "rules" complex when it comes to posting and why they give a fig how long a thread has been open.....must not have any real problems in their life so they must imagine some here...
amybeth4 Posted August 30, 2009 #708 Share Posted August 30, 2009 Oh good LORD. I don't have a rules complex. I'm not losing sleep over this thread being reopened...sigh. They've been charging for room service betwen midnight at 5am for eight months now. I guess by seeing the title on this thread on page one all over again, it makes me think that people are going to think this is a NEW thing (that they're charging), which it's not. Forgive me for thinking news that's eight months old is so exciting, especially considering MOST (and I did NOT say ALL) people don't order room service at four o'clock in the morning... There was NO anger in my original response to this post, despite the fact that it APPEARS to have been resurrected for no reason other than the poster typing, "nominal." It's not like someone did a search specifically to know how much room service costs in the middle of the night (which I would search at rccl.com, quite frankly, not here) and people learned something new. Thanks for the flaming for really no reason. Yeesh...
jackdiamond Posted August 31, 2009 #709 Share Posted August 31, 2009 Marci 22, I totally agree with your observation. This will also help to reduce the "frugal" approach practiced by some with regard to tipping for room service.
cathyoo Posted August 31, 2009 #710 Share Posted August 31, 2009 When I'm on a cruise.. midnight seems just about right for room service. Back from the shows and a stop at the casino, time to wind down and appreciate my day and one more thing to eat before be. At home 10 PM is past my bedtime. Rare BecciBoo Posted August 31, 2009 #711 Share Posted August 31, 2009 Liz: that news is rather old, what! I'm usually snoozing by that time And how do you guys manage to stay up that long. We finally managed to stay up for our first midnight buffet in 10 cruises just the other day and I nearly fell asleep waiting in line!:D Here's my new critter:

ladysoleil Posted August 31, 2009 #713 Share Posted August 31, 2009 FWIW, it was useful to me. I haven't cruised RCCL in a year- my last cruise was on the NCL Dawn, and I didn't know there was a late night room service charge. So hey, it's still helpful, even if it's weird that someone dug up an elderly thread to randomly comment on it. I've been lurking here for years, despite my shiny new username, and I don't remember seeing this thread before. So yay, and I'll now be prepared to pay for my late night snack fix. :)

I already am preparing myself for some Carnival bashing... now at least I can tell them to order free room service in the middle of the night. :)

LovesToTravel47 Posted August 31, 2009 #721 Share Posted August 31, 2009 Beginning January 2009 there will be a service charge of $3.95 for room service ordered between 12-5am, this includes the gratuity. Dont shoot the messenger please :o I've never used room service at that time frame, so will not bother me.

wgraves Posted August 31, 2009 #723 Share Posted August 31, 2009 I don't have a problem with this. I usually tip $2-3 for room service anyways. And there are plenty of free alternatives available. I prefer to see small changes such as this instead of an increase in cruise fares.
