Deck -8

Cabin # - 8232

Class – ? - Balcony on Starboard side

Bed near?(balcony or bath) –Balcony

Quiet Cabin – Yes. Even though the glass doors to the elevator foyer are across from the cabin, the doors open and close automatically and really deaden any noise of people waiting on an elevator. Some TV noise from next cabin.

Balcony View - No obstructions. Great View.

Balcony Size? I assume standard but larger than other balconies we have had on other ships.

Was wind a problem? No

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin? None

Any other comments? Great location convenient to aft elevators and atrium. On the hump and excellent views.

Deck - 6

Cabin # 6139 wheelchair accessible cabin

Class – 2B

Starboard or Port Side - PORT

Bed near?(balcony or bath) – BATH

Quiet Cabin (With comments on problems. Note if connecting. ) – VERY QUIET

Balcony View – No Obstructions, no lifeboats, great view (we loved being close to the water).

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Oversized with wheelchair ramp.

Was wind a problem? No

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin? Because the shower is " wheel in " we had to be careful of the water flowing out - but our wonderful attendant Gabriel rolled a pool towel around the bottom of the curtain every day and problem was solved.

Any other comments? - very roomy cabin, automatic door(which was amazing and made entry and exit so easy), large bathroom , large cupboard, amazing cabin for handicapped. We were right above the open area of deck 5 where smoking was allowed but hardly anyone ever used it and if they did we never noticed or smelled any smoke.

If a cabin has a good rating on the Equinox, does that mean it's good on Solstice too???

we just booked Solstice 7177.

From what I've read, Solstice & Equinox have the same layout but Equinox does not have the x on the balcony glass. Eclipse has a slightly different layout and the numbers are not identical on the new ship I believe. Which is why it's important to include ship name in your cabin posting!

PS - Are you on 11/28 sailing of Solstice?

Hi Library Lady, we had a fantastic pre- and inaugural cruise with some family members (despite some mishaps!) so here is the info on 4 Eclipse Cabins as promised:

SHIP: Eclipse

CABIN #: 6233

DECK (#): Continental Deck 6

CLASS: 2B

AREA: Hump

BED NEAR: Bathroom

QUIET? Yes

BALCONY VIEW: Great

BALCONY SIZE: Normal

WIND A PROBLEM?: Not really (but it was wet & windy weather anyway!!) so couldn’t really tell

SOOT A PROBLEM?: No

PROBLEMS/COMMENTS: Convenient cabin for smokers, deck 5 below was the smoking area

SHIP: Eclipse

CABIN #: 1073

DECK (#):Sky Deck 10

CLASS: CC

AREA: Hump

BED NEAR: Window

QUIET? Yes

BALCONY VIEW: Great

BALCONY SIZE: Normal

WIND A PROBLEM?: No

SOOT A PROBLEM?: No

PROBLEMS/COMMENTS: Very little storage in any of these cabins, we thought the cabins with the beds near the bath seemed to have more room but this is just an impression as they are all the same size. Wardrobes are not quite full depth of normal robes and getting to your clothes in the wardrobes is a problem whichever way the room is laid out!!!

SHIP: Eclipse

CABIN #: 1667

DECK (#):Penthouse Deck 11

CLASS: Sky Suite

AREA: Aft

BED NEAR: Bathroom

QUIET? Yes – could hear other loos being flushed occasionally

BALCONY VIEW: Aft – great view

BALCONY SIZE: Normal depth but wider because of extra side window

WIND A PROBLEM?: Not at all

SOOT A PROBLEM?: We did not notice any soot at all on our balcony

PROBLEMS/COMMENTS: Fantastic room, loads of storage space, proper size wardrobes and loads of deep drawers etc. Bathroom has a bath with very large Grohe shower head and mirrored cabinets. Wish we could afford this cabin on every cruise!!!!

SHIP: Eclipse

CABIN #: 1108

DECK (#): Sky Deck 10

CLASS: CC

AREA: Hump

BED NEAR: Bathroom

QUIET? Yes

BALCONY VIEW: Great

BALCONY SIZE: 3 x larger than normal but had a deep overhang – wasn’t much sun on this short trip so don’t know how much shade this would give when in sunnier climates

WIND A PROBLEM?: Not really (but it was wet & windy weather anyway!!) so couldn’t really tell

SOOT A PROBLEM?: Not at all

PROBLEMS/COMMENTS: As others have said very little storage

Happy Sailings,

Lyn

Cabin # 2128

Ship Eclipse

Deck Resort (12)

Class Sky Suite 2

Area Starboard aft (about midway between aft elevators and aft)

Bed Near Balcony

Quiet Quiet most of the time (see comments)

Balcony View Large overhead overhang but no problems

Size Normal for class

Wind Not a problem

Soot None noticed

Comments: we were not disturbed by the occasional noise overhead and IMHO only the lightest of sleeper would be woken however, between the aft elevator and cabin 2124 the corridor was noisy, noise coming from a staff service room - don't know if the cabins were affected by this as we didn't go into any of them - corridor quiet by cabin 2126. Convenient for pool and oceanview cafe one deck up. Would happily book again.

Deck - 12 (Resort)

Cabin # - 2115

Class – Sky

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Bed near?(balcony or bath) –Bath

Quiet Cabin (With comments on problems. Note if connecting. ) – No issues with noise at all and I'm not a heavy sleeper. We had no issues with the cafe being above us.

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – Only slight concern is the overhang from deck 14 and not being able to see around the 'hump' cabins. Not really an issue - we enjoyed chatting to our neighbors and if we really wanted sun - well the pool was on our deck!

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal for class. Two great adjustable chairs with ottomans and a table for whatever meal you wished.

Was wind a problem? No

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? n/a

Any specific problems with this cabin? We had no issues with this cabin, loads of storage space, no funny smells, no noise.

Any other comments?

Loved this class and I'd travel in it again - the extra space is wonderful for longer cruises. We had a cruise critic cabin crawl so we got to see several different cabins and yeah we had people who wanted to rent our bathtub! :D

Cabin: # 1084

Ship: Solstice

Deck: 10

Class: Inside Cabin

Quiet: No (see comments)

Balcony: N/A

Size: Cabin had two chairs instead of couch. More square than other cabins we saw. Good layout.

Comments: The cabin had a staff service area on one side. Starting at about 4am there was a ton of noise - clanging, moving stuff around, hammering, etc. etc. It woke us up almost every night. Very difficult to sleep at night!

Solstice

Deck - 11

Cabin # - 1604

Class – AQ

Starboard or Port Side - Starboard

Bed near?(balcony or bath) – Balcony

Quiet Cabin – Not really. The pool deck is directly above this cabin (and all aft AQ hump cabins 1599, 1601, 1603, 1605, 1604, 1606, 1608 and 1610). There is definitely some noise in the morning (around 6-6:30) when the pool butlers are setting up deck chairs, and light noise throughout the day due to people walking/moving chairs/etc.

Balcony View - Good (both forward and starboard), although the pool deck overhang is directly above the balcony.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Oversized. One side of the balcony (adjacent 1602) has the standard width, and the balcony then extends diagonally outward towards 1606 (which also has an extended angled balcony).

Was wind a problem? Not at all. Very sheltered, despite the fact that the balcony is angled towards the bow of the ship.

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? N/A.

Any specific problems with this cabin? No.

Any other comments? Great cabin location, close to main elevator bank (but shielded from elevator noise by ultra-quiet sliding glass doors). Noise from above might be our only specific complaint, though it didn't really bother us that much. The fact that these aft hump cabins are, in fact, directly below the pool deck is not well-reported on CC. IMO the great location and extra space on the balcony makes up for the noise though. Despite suggestions to the contrary (by other CC members), this balcony is very private--those in forward balconies can only see you (and you can see them) if you are standing along the rail of the balcony.

Deck - Sky

Cabin# - 1206

Class - Concierge Class

Starboard or Port Side - Aft

Bed near?(balcony or bath) – Balcony

Quiet Cabin (With comments on problems. Note if connecting)Quiet; it was not connecting to another room.

Balcony View; give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issueNo obstuction. Wake view which was lit up at night - very pretty. Had afternoon sun at beginning of cruise (very hot with no wind) and morning sun on return.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - longest of the aft balconies. Our friends had the cabin next to us (1208) and we had the steward open up the door on the balcony so we could drag their chairs and another table on our side. They had a medium length balcony; not the smallest.

Was wind a problem? - Not at all. Wished there was some wind.

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - I don't recall ever having a problem. There was a smoking lounge on the top deck, but I never smelled the smokers or had issues. The smoke from the ship did fly over us, but again, I don't recall having to wipe any furniture down. Maybe the steward did it.

Any specific problems with this cabin? - I liked the layout. Made it easier to get into the closet. 1208 had a problem because the bed was next to the closet. Our only problem would be staying out on the balcony for an extended period of time. With no wind, it got very hot. And the walk to the closest elevator is long, but not horrible for those without issues.

Any other comments? - Being in a concierge room got us flowers in the room and a rose in the bathroom which slowly opened as the week progressed. The rose didn't make it on the last 2 days and was not replaced. Cheese & crackers daily. 2 chocolates nightly. Champagne at beginning of cruise. And fruit in the morning. The towels were very plush and large. Wonderful beds and pillows. Not sure if the regular balcony rooms get the nice pillows, bedding and towels, but we really didn't need all the crackers and fruit daily. Would have been nice to change it up daily or maybe get a different gift as the cruise progressed. So Concierge may not be a necessity.

Deck - 9 (Solstice)

Cabin # - 9122

Class – 1B

Starboard or Port Side - Starboard

Bed near?(balcony or bath) – Bath

Quiet Cabin (With comments on problems. Note if connecting. ) – Yes, very quiet, did not connect. Fwd location minimized people walking past the room.

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – View was great. As someone already commented it was interesting seeing into the bridge and watching the crew

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal

Was wind a problem? No

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin? Would have preferred a configuration with the bed near the balcony. We have moved one room down on planned Equinox TA so as to get a cabin with the bed near the balcony (we hope).

Any other comments? Safe was in an awkward location on the Solstice. Understanding is on later ships in this class they move the safe. We'll see on Equinox TA in 2011.
